Little planning help please...

Finally got my son's school's schedule for '05-'06 today. Now I can plan our October trip. The question that I have is:

What's the cheapest way to book a 7 night + 7 day passes for 2 people? I've priced the package (value resort & 7 day MYW w/ plus & hopping) and it came to about $1315. When I priced it separately, the hotel was something like $772 and the tix were $532 w/ tax, totaling $1304 (woohoo, 9 bux!).

I've seen a few posts about AAA, but I'm not a member, so I can't check personally.

Any suggestions are welcome....THANKS

I think the main reason for booking separately would be the fact that if a room code came out you could apply it to your existing reservation & possibly save money. Keep in mind that this is not guaranteed, but it could happen.

Does anyone know if Disney will do the 5+2 (buy 5 nights get 2 free) deal they have done for the last few years or do you think their new package/pricing structure will eliminate it?

I think with the new ticket structure- no one knows what to expect as far as room discounts/package pricing. I think the new structure has caused packages to be more affordable so I wouldn't really expect another offer on top of that. Chances of a room only code seem more likely.

I was a booking everything separate person until the new packages came out. I was getting so stressed about worrying about codes and making reservations - that after I priced out the package (it was much cheaper than I had priced out the individual components) - I just went with the package. I used DU - and now some of the stress is lifted!

In addition to possible room codes, you can also save money on the tickets by purchasing them from someone other than Disney. Just about any of the online brokers can beat Disney's price by several dollars.

Other advantages include the fact that a room-only ressie requires the equivalent of one night's stay for a deposit instead of the $200 deposit for a package. The balance for room-only ressies is due on check in. For a package, the balance is due 45 days prior to your departure date. A room-only ressie can be canceled as late as 6-days prior to your arrival date and you will get a full refund of your deposit. There are penalties for canceling a package inside of the 45-day mark. Just a few things to think about.

You don't have to be a AAA member to ask what the AAA rate is on a room. Just call Disney and ask what the AAA room only rate is, and if you see you are going to save money, then you can join. I like to book the room only rate just because of the 1 day deposit.

You can call a AAA office and have them price a package for you and if the price sounds right (and would justify the membership) become a member.

You don't have to be a member to get a quote!!!

The AAA rate for last week of Sept, first week of Oct was 15% off for the deluxe resorts, I believe its like $50 to join AAA.

Quick update:

I joined AAA because of the discount. They were able to get the same package (value resort & 7 day MYW w/ plus & hopping) for $1223 which includes a $25 booking fee charged by AAA. Plus I have the Disney Visa which I'm using to book....AAA claims that when they book with Disney, the card is recognized and the card is not charged for 6 months. These sorts of "delay payment" things usually don't excite me, but since I get to apply my earned Disney Dollars from the card towards the package....it just gives me more time to save up(sort of).

You actually do get charged the amount. They just don't charge you interest for the first 6 months.
