Little House on the Prairie fans-- Who thought Almonzo was HOT!?!

Hahahaha!!!!
I was just flipping around and caught the end of the LHOTP episode where Almonzo fell in love with Laura.
I had the biggest crush on Almonzo when I was like 12 or 13! :rotfl2:
Anyone else?

Oh gawd yes! I can remember almost SCREAMING at the TV just notice her will you??? :happytv: This past summer when it has been so hot I thought of the episode where Laura was preggers and had to keep the saplings watered so they could keep the property, geeze i thought that was pretty intense.

Remember how Mrs. Olsen couldn't pronounce Almanzo's name? She'd call him "Zaldamo." :lmao:

Almanzo was better looking later in the series when they cut his hair a little. I love the "Sweet Sixteen" episode when he first falls in love with Laura, except that she seems so ridiculously young for him. She was still in braids at the beginning of the episode and had her little high-pitched voice. :bride:

Oh well, I'm a big LHOTP fan too. It was good family-friendly television, which isn't as easy to find these days.

Remember when Carrie fell down the well (some kind of hole in the ground), and when they thought she was dead, Ma put her head on the ground and laid there in despair. :sad1: My friend and I were crying our eyes out, and her grandmother told us that Carrie is really in Hollywood counting all her money!

And I liked Mr. Olson...he was so patient.

Reminds me of DH now, lol. (not looks, just personality)

I had a crush on 'manly' from the books more than the TV show. Too blonde for me.

I didn't like Almanzo at all. I thought he seemed too old for Laura and found their relationship creepy.

I liked Nelly's husband though. Seemed like a little love softened her up.

I never read the books, so I think that I viewed the series a lot differently than most people who did. I looooooved Manly! And I was a little black girl from the ghetto :rotfl2: I still love Manly, and I'm a 42 year old black lady in the suburbs :rotfl2: I still watch it - I actually just watched my favorite episodes "The Lord Is My Shepherd". :sad1:

DD-9 hasn't started watching them, though. If i could only tear her away from SpongeBob - maybe she could fall in love with Zaldamo too :teeth:

I enjoyed finding out behind the scenes stuff. I think that they did either a True Hollywood story or a Biography episode on the series. I had never known that Willie and Laura were true life adopted siblings, or that Laura and Pa were so close off-camera. (I sometimes speculate that their falling out with each other had something to do with Michael Landon's divorce. I know that Melissa Gilbert was considered basically part of the Landon family. So she was probably pretty devestated when the divorce was happening. But, this is just my own "National Inquirer unnamed imaginery source" theory :teeth: )

I am such a LHOP fan that I've named a neighbor's child "Nellie" (Of course, DD is Laura and is one step away from "socking her one good!") Disclaimer - I do not advocate violence - but even Pa socked a guy "one good" when he was trying to swindle Manly out of the land that he had just bought for him and Laura.

I wasn't an Almanzo fan. But Pa was the epitomy of a "Real man". He had it all going on. Not that I noticed that when I was little, but do I ever see it as an adult!
My Sis and I grew up on that show! Good times! :)

That is hysterical!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Another Little House fan here!!! No, I didn't have a crush on anybody--just in love with the family as a whole and the relationship between Pa and Laura was my favorite. :lovestruc

I bought the DVD set (first season) for my kids and want to get more. There is nothing on TV worth watching anymore!! I wanted the avoid the whole rape episode though (what were they thinking with that one--Kids are watching!!!!!!) since it gave me nightmares. Any one know what season that is?

The blind school fire was the second worse!! Hated it too! Watching that worman get trapped--awful!! :sad2:

That was so sad. Both Alice Garvy and Mary & Adam's baby died.

I didn't have a crush on anyone on LHOTP, but I watched it all of the time. I even had a Little House on the Prairie lunchbox when I was in the 3rd grade. :goodvibes

I saved my crush for John Boy on The Waltons.

Nooooooooooo! Not John Boy Walton! LOL :-)

I didn't have a crush on anyone , but always wanted to have Pa to be my Pa!!

That was a sweet story. I liked him to!

That one didn't mess with me as much as the one where Alicia, Albert's love interest was raped by the guy in the mask. Talk about your bad dreams! Maggie

That is the one and only episode that scared me too. I admit I also liked the show but didn't find Almonzo attractive.

I grew up on LHOTP. I hated it that there were so many tearjerker episodes..

My husbands ex-wife was totally in love with Almanzo to the point of making my husband feel terrible by talking about him all the time and she was grown woman watching reruns back int he 80's. :confused3

Here's a picture of the real Zaldamo. Now HE's hot!

yes well in real life Almonzo Wilder was quite a bit older than Laura, which wasn't uncommon for the time period. He was also very very short and struggled with health and mobility problems nearly all of his adult life due to illness. Has anybody else ever been to their home in Mansfield? They were both rather short people, and all the doorways there are so tiny.

Laura however was considered to be quite attractive - as was their daughter Rose.

Now Rose Wilder Lane led a very interesting life and was quite an accomplished writer in her own right. She was also very pretty and extremely intelligent.

Most historians believed that Rose played a major role in advising her Mother and editing the early books of the Little House series.

I also have copies of a fairly large collection of some of the writings Laura Wilder did when she wrote a regular column for a Missouri newspaper. One that is quite poignant is the column she wrote the day that she learned of her Mother's death. I literally cried when I read it and realized "Ma died."

There's my history lesson for the day.

Wow, TF...reading the books I always assumed Almanzo was, well, manly. The short guy with health problems just doesn't fit with all the horse breaking he does in the books. I'm going to assume Laura took romantic license in the stories. :)

Very interesting.

Very interesting.

After Laura and he got diphtheria, he tried to go back to his normal routine too soon and suffered a stroke which left him partially paralized. He never recovered full use of his legs and feet and had to use a cane the rest of his life. Before that, however, he was like Laura described him in the books.

Finally, I topic I know way too much about. Laura was my hero when I was a little girl. :smooth:

You know, I once read a biography about them all, and I must have forgotten anything I ever read in it! I do remember it having lots of stories about Ma and Pa though. I'm off to check Amazon for it...
