Little Girls in the Mens Room?

I don't think that is correct and would want to see some proof.
My DH did have a situation that came up when he was out in the Mall of America with our DD, who is obviously disabled and needs assistance in the bathroom. He was taking her into the Family Bathroom (that was the way the door of that bathroom was labeled) when a woman stopped him and said she was calling security because he was a male taking a female into the bathroom by himself. He explained that she could not use the bathroom by herself and needed his assistance to get out of her wheelchair and do the tasks of toileting.
When DH came out, the woman was waiting with Security (the woman still ranting the whole time). The Security Guard asked DH a few questions about who he was related to DD and then apologized since it was obvious that DD could not use the toilet without assistance.
That is the extent of what happened (although DH makes sure that older Dd or I take younger DD in the bathroom now).

Sorry Sue, they were tv news stories. All I remeber about them is both involved a father with his daughter useing a Mens bathroom. So it was a bit different than your example. Both lost thier cases. I do also remember that it was federal law that was violated. Privacy I beleve. Personally I don't see the problem, but it's a big world :confused3

I am as liberal as they come...I am one of the most liberal democrats you will ever meet....but seriously??? seriously????

The issue I have with this as written in RED in the article:
Sexual predators can now enter women’s restrooms and claim they have a sexual identity different from their birth sex.

How are they going to stop grown men from haunting women's bathrooms? I can see it now, grown men will line up at bathrooms around the city just to get a peak into women's stalls....now they can't be escorted out, they can't be arrested....Maybe I am over reacting...I dunno....maybe it's my Americanized nature...this works in Europe and it doesn't seem to be an issue....

Why do you need a law like this. I've been in line with recognizable cross dressers before...a male, dressed as a female uses the female bathroom...I didn't see this as an issue..they often have feminine features due to hormone therapy. Is a law necessary...maybe I just don't know the troubles transgendered people go through in life...

Maybe someone can enlighten me on this.

For that story yes. Just google other possible scenarios and you will find tons more. I am not arguing that WDW bathrooms are dangerous. For the most part I think WDW bathrooms are probably just fine as people are trying to get in and out fast and on their way to an attraction. Most of WDW restrooms are busy and therefore not a good place for someone to do anything to a child. I am talking restrooms in general and what my dh and myself are comfortable with.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to live my life in fear. More people die in car accidents in this country every day than anything else... I assume you drive your kids around in a car? I just can't let scary headlines rule my life.

I understand that Disney has Companion Restrooms, but they are few and far between when compared to the area that the parks cover. I would use them when available, but when you've got a young kid that doesn't also give the best notice when they have to pee, sometimes you gotta hit the closest restroom. And in general "Companion/Family" restrooms are not necessarily for disabled patrons only, although some are. So if it is clearly labled as a restroom for disabled use only then I would avoid using it if possible (again a newly trained 2 year old and a 20 minute wait for the ladies room don't always mix), but if it is called or has the symbol for a unisex/family restroom, I'll definitely use it.

I've never seen a 20 minute wait in a WDW restroom. And we went twice for Christmas.

If there are 6 restrooms that a person in need of a companion can use, I leave them be.

The fact that the website is called TraditionalValues.org lets me know that it's a website that shouldn't be taken seriously.

I must be weird. I don't care who is in the bathroom. I just want to get in, do what I gotta do and get out to have more fun. As long as the bathroom is clean, has TP and towels, I'm a happy camper. Bring grandpa, your five cousins and the marching band in for all I care. Just do it quickly so the line doesn't back up!!

I should have been more specific, I was more referring to public restrooms in general....and being slightly facetious, a 20 SEC wait can be the difference between a successful potty run and an accident (and not just speaking of toddlers, even older kids can get so engrossed in what is going on around them and "forget" they have to use the bathroom, thus making any wait quite difficult).

A quote from the article:

“This obscene law will now put every man, woman and child at risk for shock and fear whenever they enter a restroom or locker room,” said TVC Executive Director Andrea Lafferty. “What kind of trauma will a little girl experience in a restroom when she’s confronted with some hairy-legged transvestite sitting in the stall next to her?

I don't know about you, but I would have giggled like mad if I would have seen that as a little girl.

I agree ::yes:: and as a previous poster mentioned...I've made a bathroom unisex when at an event and the ladies line was crazy and the men's room pretty much empty...just announced myself and went about my business ;)

Heck, that could've been my Aunt Goldie. She was pretty shaggy herself.

I understand the two year old, but I think the consequences of waiting might just help them to pay better attention next time.
