Wishing you and Connor all the best. I know that it's a shock. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a little over 2 years ago. I'm not insulin dependant but do have medication to take and of course have to watch diet etc. It's an adjustment but I figure there's a lot worse things to have. It runs in my family and my brother also has it so family gatherings tend to be quite healthy! The biggest thing that I've noticed is that my brother and I don't react the same way to the same things and it takes a while to know what the limits are and the reactions. My tip for testing for blood sugar would be to move the test site around. I vary the finger tips because if I always did it in one finger it wouldn't be a pretty site. It doesn't hurt though which is what I was afraid of.

Connor is doing great. Same samrt alec kid as in the video.

I gave him a shot for the first time tonight and he was joking away "Dad is going to kill me!!!"

He lived.

He keeps that up he may not.

So I think the hard part is going to be to get enough sugar into him - he eats like a bird.

About to turn into a pumkin her at the PC place in CHOP. MAy be the only bad thing about the place - they close the PC room early.

Home tomorrow and Connor goes trick or treating.

There is nothing worse than having a child that is sick. Both the map boy and the octopus have had surgery (Boston Children's Hospital). As I am sure you can attest t is comforting to have quality medical care close by. Sounds like the little guy is doing well. I had an uncle that lived well into old age with diabetes. Our prayers are with you.

btw, Halloween must surely be the Zurg familys favorite holiday. The octopus threw a fit at dinner tonight because he would not accept that the big night was tomorrow. No, its this night Dad!. lol.

Now I need to go figure out who delswife is and what all the commotion is around here

Glad you get to go home tomorrow. I remember when our middle son was diagnosed with Type I at age six, our first goal was to learn what we needed and are second was TO GET OUT OF THERE!

Hi Zurg,

Sorry to hear about your little guy- but those bumps make us stronger. Know quite a few kids with Juvenile Diabete as I worked on a Mohawk reserve where there is a high incidence of diabetes. It is amazing how kids take care of themselves and respond as if it is nothing.

I am sure your little guy wil be back on the road in no time, none the worse for wear.

Keeping you all in my prayers - and KNOW that Connor, et al, will be OK.

My middle DD spent some time in CHOP when she was just 18 months old and was diagnosed with hypoglycemia (she kept going into insulin shock). The staff at CHOP was amazing! - she turns 24 this month - she is healthy, beautiful and full of life (and sass!) - she has learned how to monitor her diet and her life to deal with her condition - there is nothing she can't do because of it - sometimes she just has to work a little harder and with a bit more forethought ! Connor will learn to do the same, I'm sure - you are all blessed with great love and optimism (and a sense of humor - which you certainly have! -always helps when the stressful times hit)! :smooth:

to you! While the disease may be different, I feel your pain. DD4.5 was diagnosed with epilepsy in Feb 2003. Fortunately it is controlled with medication, but the process of watching the seizures and getting the diagnosis was awful! I'm glad Connor will be able to lead a normal life. Tell him he has a sympathetic friend in New Orleans!

Pixie dust and prayers for the Zurgs. Glad to know everything is going to be all right. DS had surgery last Sept at Children's in Boston. It really does put things in perspective when you spend many nights wandering the halls and seeing so many others......

DD's best friend just arrived to spend the night. She's nearly 15, has had Type I DM since age 7. Other than having to prick her finger and take her insulin just before eating, she's just like any other teen (groan!).

I'm glad your son is doing well. I had tried to PM you, but your mailbox is apparently full! I wanted to let you know I agree that your son was in one of the best children's hospitals in the nation. My niece graduated from the University of Pennsyvania last spring and is a RN at the Childrens Hospital of Pennsyvania. We are so proud she was given an oppurtunity to work there. :cool:
