Saturday 16th December - Magic Kingdom
DS had still not adjusted completely to Florida time so was up at 5.30am watching Spongebob on TV. I was wide awake too so sat and jotted down a few notes for my trippe. Everybody else was up and around for 7am, so we beat the breakfast crowds and were at MK for before 9.
As there was a bit of a queue for the monorail we took the ferry across (I kind of prefer this anyway) and were very disappointed to see a huge crane towering directly behind the castle. DH commented on how upsetting it would be if today was your only trip and all your photos were spoiled by it. As we have loads of photos we just didnt bother today but it had disappeared by mid afternoon anyway.
It wouldnt be Magic Kingdom if i didnt cry within a couple of minutes of entering the park (its only ever the first time we go to MK each holiday every other time Im absolutely fine and what starts me off is always absolutely random) and today was no exception. Father Christmas was sat in a little grotto next to City Hall in Main Street doing photos and was without doubt the most realistic Santa I have ever seen in my life. He was straight from a Coca Cola ad. Sadly I havent any pics of him as it was too crowded around him to get a decent pic and the kids refused to queue to get their pics taken with him (monsters!) & I felt too foolish to go on my own
Anyway Id quickly dried my eyes and we took our first slow stroll down Main Street taking in the sights and lovely smells from the stores. As ever at the bottom we took a left and headed to Frontierland for Big Thunder Mountain. When we get there DH & the kids insist on doing Splash first. Im very reluctant as although its very warm and sunny again I dont relish getting wet. DH assures me they use less water in Winter so well be fine. Fast forward 15 minutes and we are joining the queue for Thunder when the woman behind me uses me as her prime example of why she wont be going on Splash today! My lovely kids ducked right inside the log as we went down the main drop and I got all the water full on in the face. I was absolutely drenched (hence there are no photos of me today as my hair was an absolute mess afterwards!)
DH & DD it was all downhill from here ......
Thunder was like Splash pretty much a walk on so we did it a couple of times and used the opportunity to dry off a bit then it was over to the re-furbed POTC. I was suitably impressed with Captain Jack & the Davy Jones effect was clever. It was just a little disappointing that there is no Will Turner or Elizabeth Swann. From there it was on to the Enchanted Tiki Rooms. We have never done them before .... never will again ... suffice to say DS was disgusted he left muttering something about a load rubbish but it was difficult to hear him as he was still gagged after the Germany incident. I would have to say his disgusted expression was worth it if nothing else. His mood improves with the offer of a yummy pineapple dole whip.
We move on to the Haunted Mansion and from there quickly on to Small World & Philarmagic then go over to Tomorrowland to get fastpasses for Buzz Lightyear. We take a stroll over to Mickeys Toontown to check out if Mickey & Co have their trees up but quickly give up as it is absolute stroller hell and their occupants are all screaming. DD pledges never to have kids. I ask for that in writing.
We try to find somewhere for a late lunch but suddenly the park seems jammed and its difficult to find anywhere. We put this down to it being a weekend and that its very warm again. Eventually we find a table in Peco Bills Cafe where we have chicken wraps & burgers then we go back to Tomorrowland for Buzz Lightyear get FPs for Space Mountain and a ride on the TTA Blue Line (Paging Mr Morrow)
While we wait for our Space mountain FP time we do the shops up main street buying small gifts for the kids friends at home and I do a little sneaky christmas shopping for the kids. We catch the afternoon parade but I am a little disappointed that it isnt very Christmassy
As the crowds continue to pour in we decide to call it a day and head off to Premium Outlets for a little light shopping. Spend an absolue fortune as ever but did get a number of bargains (Converse trainers for DS $20, DD 2 sweaters, jeans & long sleeve T shirt $55 from Gap)
We had a delicious dinner at the Olive Garden. I had Soupa de Tasca (a lovely meat & potato soup) DH & DD had Minestrone with lovely warm garlic breadsticks (you get a free soup or sald and breadsticks with every appetiser) followed by Chicken Masala for DH, I had the same but with cheese. DD had Lasagne & DS pizza all for $65. Then it was back to the hotel for some trashy TV before bed.... bliss
