Lisa's Journal (Life on the "Beach" - Part 2 all the way to goal!)

We all get stuck in the roles that we think we are meant to play. Also being the oldest in the family we seem to think we need to burden ourselves with more responsibility then our younger sibilings. At least I have always felt that way in my family. The fact is we can choose the role we play and you will always be the older sister - not the big sister or fat sister - but just older and wiser sister ;)

Your jean jacket sounds adorable! And it is time to take those larger sizes and get them out of your closet. Buy more clothes and get rid of the bigger stuff because you are never going to be that size again. I wish we lived near each other so that we could go on a shopping spree together. Also visit Victoria's Secret and get somethng that will make your husband go :earseek: and :love2: - enjoy your success sweetie - the sooner you enjoy it the sooner it will feel real to you.

May 19, 2004 (Wednesday) Day 171 on the Beach

I don't have much time to post but I wanted to list my menu and exercise.

B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes and 2 small sausage patties
S: 8 whole small almonds
L: leftover beef stroganoff over long grain converted rice and an orange
S: Dannon light and fit peach 4 oz. yogurt
D: fried (in canola oil) chicken breast, 1/2 cup of rice and creamed spinach with 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise and Water Gauge:
I actually made myself take a break this morning. I'm so sore and I promised to listen to my body and it was screaming out for a rest day. Water was a 5.0. Pretty good.

That's a wrap for Wednesday!

Amanda - So you've got the "oldest child" syndrome too, huh? I'm the oldest of 12 kids so I've always been like a second mom and haven't really paid all that much attention to myself. That is changing though. I like how you said that I am the older (and hopefully wiser) sister but I don't have to put any other label on myself. You are right about getting rid of the big clothes. It's hard though. I've had them for so long, it's like getting rid of an old friend. Thanks so much for the encouragement you give. I really appreciate all the support!

Oh yeah I've got oldest child syndrome big time! Although I only have one sibiling - I can't believe you are the oldest of 12!!!

The funny thing is that my Mom is the youngest in her family and now that I am an adult I feel like she also depends on me a lot for things. I have to remind myself sometimes that she is the parent and not me. My Dad is a whole other story but out of our little family of 4 I am seen as the responsible one that gets things done and doesnt' fool around. Therefore all of them come to me and it makes it difficult.

You are who you are but you don't have to be a byproduct of your surroundings. Get rid of the bigger clothes and really morph into the thin person you are becoming. All you are really doing is changing the outside to reflect the inside person that you already are.

May 20, 2004 (Thursday) Day 172 on the Beach

When I got into work today a coworker told me that my arms are looking so skinny and so is my neck and face. I can even see my collarbone now. I have been able to feel it for the past few weeks and that was fascinating enough but now I can see it peaking out from the fat that's disappearing around my neck. Weird, nice but again it's so weird to see my body changing like this.

Here's today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes, 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of low fat cheese and 3 strips of bacon
S: 8 small whole almonds
L: tuna salad with 8 whole wheat crackers and an orange
S: Dannon light and fit yogurt (strawberry, 4 oz.)
D: grilled sirloin bacon cheeseburger on a bed of lettuce with mayo and tomato and 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM cardio sculpt blaster with Lisa Kay for my work out this morning and water was a 5.50. Pretty good!

That's a wrap for Thursday!

Amanda - thanks for giving me so much encouragement. This is a fun, exciting and scary experience losing weight. I thought it was just a matter of taking off the pounds but it's so much more than that. I know I have to get rid of those old clothes in my closet and will make a commitment to do so once I get back from Disney. Our situations are similar in that my Mom had me at such an early age (let's just say she was under 16) and kept having kids so I became their surrogate mother and my mom's too. I have spent all my life putting other people first and it's an adjustment to think of what I might need first. I'm slowly getting used to it. I thought becoming thin would make me vain or selfish but now I am realizing this is just how normal people are. You have to think of yourself and there's nothing wrong with that. I like how you said that I am just letting the outside of my body reflect what's inside. The basic person I am will not change because I won't let her! {{{hugs}} to you and have a great weekend! :)

Good morning Lisa!
That was some storm this morning, huh? Whew! You are doing a fantastic job and I am so glad that it is paying off for you in smaller clothes and compliments from others. You are doing a great job with South Beach and pretty soon, you'll be celebrating your 200th day. Woohoo!!!:bounce: Plus, you are a FIRMing princess:. Lisa, you are such an inspiration in so many different ways. Not only by your South Beach and FIRM examples, but by the thoughts that you share in your journal. I can't tell you how many times I have read your journal and been blessed by what you have said. So, thank you Lisa! Have a great Friday!

Tracy:wave2:

Stopping by to say a quick hello. I also wanted to see how close you are to leaving and I see your trip is in 2 weeks. I'm excited for you! I can see you're doing very well as usual. Sorry I haven't been by very often, but you and the rest of my WISH friends have been in my thoughts. I'll be to sure to stop by and wish you well before you leave. Take care!
:D

May 21, 2004 (Friday) Day 173 on the Beach

I didn't have a chance to post Friday's activities. I stayed OP as far as my eating and did FIRM Super Body Sculpt (kicked my butt) for my workout.

That's a wrap for Friday!

May 22, 2004 (Saturday) Day 174 on the Beach

I did a lot of running around with my sister today. It was fun. I'm getting closer and closer to my Disney trip and that's exciting too. We saw Shrek 2, which I thought was adorable. I liked it as much as the first one.

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal and 2 small sausage patties
S: no morning snack
L: fried bologna (lower fat) sandwich on whole wheat bread with lettuce, tomato and mayo and an orange
S: plain popcorn at the movies
D: taco salad and 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did Super Cardio Sculpt for my work out early this morning and water level was a 4.0. Not too bad for a weekend.

Weigh in: Today (Sunday) is weigh in day and I'm down another 1.5 pounds. I was hoping for 2 pounds but hey, I'll take it! I have now officially lost 60 pounds and snagged my beautiful 60 pound clippiee!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I've got another 15 pounds to go and I'll be halfway to my ultimate weight goal! :)

That's a wrap for Saturday!

Tracy - thanks for stopping by. We have been experiencing some frightening storms in our area, huh? I hope you and your family are doing well. Take care and thanks again for checking on and supporting me. I appreciate it!

Lisa - I can't believe my trip is getting so close! I've got a mini family vacation planned for Hilton Head in November and we just added a night in a Grand Villa at the beginning of our stay and and my family that's going are so excited about it! But I keep telling myself I gotta get to Disney first! I love owning DVC! Don't worry if you can't check in with me as often as you like. I totally understand and please know that you are in my thoughts often as well!

May 23, 2004 (Sunday) Day 175 on the Beach

I went to a graduation party today and I just have to share this story. I was enjoying myself concentrating on the wonderful company and not even thinking about the catered food. I had made dinner at home and was going to eat with my family later. A girlfriend of min wanted to make a plate for her husband to take home and I was in the dining room surrounded by all the cakes and chicken and mac and cheese and stuff like that.

Before I realized it, I reached over and grabbed something off the buffet table intently listening to my friend tell me a story. I was so surprised to see that I had a piece of broccoli in my hand. I dipped it in the ranch dressing and realized that I was actually craving raw broccoli and cauliflower. How totally unlike me. I absolutely hated vegetables. I prided myself on avoiding them at all cost. Here I was at a gathering surrounded by all this carby high fat food and I reached for veggies! I am more excited about this type of progress (the mental changes) than some of the other changes I have noticed.

Woohoo for me! I guess there is hope that I can be successful and stay OP on vacation.

Here's today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal, 3 slices of bacon and 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese
S: no morning snack
L: fried reduced fat bologna sandwich on whole wheat bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato and an orange
S: no afternoon snack
D: bbq pork chop (Hunt's low carb bbq sauce), homemade cole slaw and oven baked macaroni and cheese (made with whole wheat pasta) and 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Okay, I don't know how I feel about that mac and cheese I made. I definitely know that I will not use reduced fat cheeses again. There just wasn't enough fat in the cheese to make it all stick together. I think I'll make the mac and cheese on the stovetop next time with melted Velvetta. All in all, the whole wheat macaroni wasn't bad. I would definitely make it again in some macaroni salad or beefy mac or something. If you're on SBD and you miss macaroni, give Hodgmill brand a try.

Exercise and Water Gauge:
I did FIRM BSS1 ab sculpt and followed the advanced moves. When my work out was done, I was barely winded and barely broke a sweat. I think doing the FIRM super work outs have really built up my stamina.

That's a wrap for Sunday!

Beth - thanks for celebrating with me!

:thewave: CLIPPIE PARTY! :thewave:

Way to go sweetie! That is awesome! What are your stats right now?

Good for you on grabbing the broccoli - I love fresh raw broccoli and it is really yummy when you add ranch dressing to it. Hmm....maybe I'll pick some up at the market this weekend.

~Amanda

Amanda - thanks for celebrating my new clippie with me! I am so excited to have reached this point. I'm almost halfway to goal. My stats are: started/current/goal (282./222.5/140). I currently wear a loose fitting size 16 and am hoping to end up in size 8 but I won't be mad if I stop when I wear a size 10. The smaller I get, the more confident I feel that I can reach the size 8. I've been heavy all my life and weigh less right now that I did when I was pregnant with my son 17 years ago so you can just imagine how good I am feeling! Take care my WISH-sis!!!!

:flower1: :flower1: :flower1: A BEAUTIFUL 60 POUND CLIPPIE!!! :flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

Warm congratulations, Lisa!! You are such an inspiration to me and it's wonderful to see your success!!

I'm so thankful that you share the mental and emotional aspects of your journey with us. The things you write really resonate with me and give me a lot to think about. By the way, I'm NOT the oldest - I have one older brother - but I've always been the "responsible" one in the family. I wonder if there's a pattern here - we let ourselves go because we were always so busy putting others first. Hmmmm.....

Hope your Tuesday is a happy day!! :sunny:

Congratulations on that 60 lb. clippie. You're looking fantastic, dahling!

May 24, 2004 (Monday) Day 176 on the Beach

I want to make sure I get my menu down before the day gets so crazy I don't have time to come back and post. I am thinking about adding Pilates to my routine (Thursdays and Sundays). I was planning to wait until I reached onderland (about 20 or so pounds away) but I'm thinking I might borrow my sister's Pilates work out to see how I do. I'll report back if I have the nerve to add Pilates to my routine. I'm a bit intimidated by it.

Menu for the day:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes and 2 small sausage patties
S: 8 whole small almonds
L: tuna salad and 8 whole wheat Triscuit crackers with an orange
S: Dannon light and fit 4 oz. strawberry yogurt
D: LindaSue's chicken and green bean dish with 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise and Water Gauge:
I did the FIRM cardio sculpt blaster for my work out this morning. I love my FIRM work outs! Water was a 5.50. Pretty good!

That's a wrap for Monday!

Doe - thanks so much for stopping by to check on my progress! I appreciate you taking the time to celebrate with me. I'm so excited to have made it this far in my weight loss journey. I'm glad if you can relate to my ramblings. Sometimes I think I shouldn't bother to post how I truly feel. But then I say to myself that I started this journey to be completely honest so warts and all is just out there. I feel like it's theraputic and I know it's helping me not be so afraid of losing this weight so thanks again for your continued support!

lulu - I appreciate your stopping by and encouraging me! Thanks for joining in my 60 pound clippie celebration.

Hi Lisa. I am thinking of starting Pilates as well. My friend does it and loves it. She thinks it has really helped her core area/abs. She said when she lifts weights or does cardio she sweats like there is no tomorrow. She said when she does Pilates she works hard but doesn't sweat. I can tell you that she looks terrific. I am just a little nervous about starting Pilates. Let me know how you like it.

Wow Lisa! 60 pounds are gone!!!!:Pinkbounc That is a wonderful testament to all of the hard work and effort that you have put into your weight loss journey. I am so proud of you Lisa!:teeth:

I'm not sure if you are talking about Windsor Pilates or not, but I have done this workout a few times. I really didn't sweat while doing it, but it really does work your core muscles a lot. There are also some leg exercises in there that caused me to be sore for a few days. Overall, I think it's a great addition to your FIRM workouts. It's totally different than the FIRM, but it's always good to mix things up every now and then.::yes::

Have a wonderful day Lisa! You are doing a fantastic job!!!!:Pinkbounc

May 25, 2004 (Tuesday) Day 177 on the Beach

Well it's wonderful Wednesday and I'm in a very good mood. My Disney trip is right around the corner and I'm ready to go.

I rode a crowded bus home from work today and a man that I ride with everyday sat next to me. I noticed there was a bit of room between us and we both fit pretty comfortably in the seat. I mentioned to him that the only reason he could sit next to me was that I had lost 60 pounds and he said that he could tell I had lost a lot of weight the other day when he saw me but he didn't want to appear forward. I thanked him for his compliment and we had a nice conversation on the way home. It's a weird but good feeling to feel almost like a normal person. Thin people take for granted that someone can sit next to them on the bus or that they can squeeze through a turnstyle but when you have been heavy all your life and you can begin to do these things, it's really a big deal!

Today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes and 2 small sausage patties
S: 8 whole small almonds
L: tuna salad with 8 whole wheat crackers and an orange
S: Dannon light and fit peach yogurt (4 oz.)
D: beef stroganoff over long grain converted rice and 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream for dessert

Exercise: FIRM super body sculpt (upper and lower body) this morning for me.

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

wilderness - I'll be sure to let you know what I think of Pilates. I'm going to get my sister's DVD because I don't think she's using it right now. I'm not too sure why I feel a bit intimidated by it if I can do the FIRM, I can probably do Pilates too.

Tracy - Thanks for celebrating my loss with me! I am working hard and have quite a ways to go yet. It's going to be interesting to see how much I can stay OP with my eating and exercise while on vacation. I'll be sure to report back when I return home. Yes, I'm talking about Windsor Pilates. My sister actually ordered her DVDs when we were at Disney last year and the informercial was on. I know she likes it, I just have to see if she'll let me borrow it for a little bit.

May 26, 2004 (Wednesday) Day 178 on the Beach

Just a quick post with my menu and exercise for the day.

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes, 2 small sausage patties and 2 scambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese
S: 8 whole small almonds
L: tuna salad with 8 or 9 whole wheat crackers and an orange
S: Dannon light and fit strawberry (4 oz.) yogurt
D: toppings off 3 slices of pizza (lf mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage and double mushroom) and 1/2 cup of n/s/a ice cream

Exercise and Water Gauge:
I took a rest day today but it's back to the FIRM tomorrow with my cardio sculpt blaster. Waer level was a 4.0. I need to do a lot better with my water.

I did a little clothes shopping after work. My size 16 slacks are getting a bit big so I wanted to see if I could fit into a size 14 at Lane Bryant. I already wear their smallest size pantyhose and if I can fit into the 14's then I'm almost out of LB forever! That would have be great. Unfortunately, the 14's short A-line skirts are too small because the 16's I tried on were either tight or wouldn't zip at all in some cases. I got so discouraged, I didn't even bother to try on the 14 slacks. What's so strange to me is that they had these cute skirt and knit top sets and I tried on a 14/16 and it was too big on me. Anything that I tried in a 18/20 was too big too. Strange. I feel like I'm between sizes right now. Somewhere between an 18 and 16. I'm still over 200 pounds so I know I shouldn't be discouraged. I'm sure by the time I hit onderland that I'll be solidly in a size 14.

That's a wrap for Wednesday!

 Silly clothes manufacturers!! You'd think they could all AGREE on what each size is - but they each have their own definition! Try not to stress about the clothes sizes though. You're losing steadily and you'll find clothes that flatter you no matter what the size on the tag says. No one else knows what's on the tag, right??

Hope your holiday weekend is filled with fun, healthy food and exercise!! :sunny:

Congrats on that gorgeous 60 lbs clippie and over 170 days of being cheat-free. Lisa, you absolutely amaze me!

I totally understand about sizes - I'm really frustrated right now being between sizes. I'm short (5'3 1/2" - the 1/2 is important when you're short) - and busty (36 DD). In regular sizes, I have to cut and hem off about 4-6 inches. In petites, I've always bought the "bigger" size because of rise...right now my 14 petites are way too big - some size 12 fit but most are just not long enough in the rise. So I've put off buying anything new until I can loosely fit into a 12 petite. Even when I was 115 lbs - I've always bought a size large top because I don't like things tight across my bustline. But now my tops bag around the middle or hang from my bustline...maybe my mom who sews can help take them in the middle?

The other day, I actually tried on a designer suit at Nordstrom...I fit into an 8! Wow an 8! but I'm not able to plunk down $600 for a suit. Head over to Penny's and try a skirt there...the 12 P is tight in the waist! The 14 P falls off. Go figure!

Lisa - you are an inspiration. If you can stick with this, I can stick with this. Please enjoy your WDW vacation with your little sis...she is a very lucky girl to have you for a sister!

-Laurie
