Linking reservations question

This will be our first cruise. We are a family of 6. My husband's cousin and his family (3 total) will be joining us, and will have one of our girls in their room. My question is how to go about linking the reservations the best way? We want joining rooms, and we will have to pay for our daughter's part of the cruise in their room. Would it be best for one of us to do the original reservation and deposit for both rooms, than the other family pays off their own balance on their room? Or to do them seperately, but hope we can somehow chose joining rooms? Our dates aren't released yet, and we do NOT live nearby to get together to work on the small details. Any help or advice would be wonderful! Thank you so much!

Do you have an idea which ship and cruise you are interested in taking? Take a look at the plans for the ships. Pick your first choice "connecting" rooms, then also have some back ups that you would be willing to take. This can be done before the cruises are announced. Make sure the rooms have the beds you want (ie: do you need 5 in a room, then make sure there's a murphy and bunk).

Also, I advise using a good TA for your first cruise. Dreams Unlimited (who own this site) would be able to help you or go to someone you're comfortable dealing with.

So for deck plans, I like this site:

For the other ships, click on the ship in the top left corner for a dropdown and pick the ship you want.

As for rooms with certain bed arrangements, there's a good thread on this site that can help:

You should also have a plan, in case your cousin, with whom your DD will be staying, backs out. If you think you will take over that room, then you maybe should book them. Have that discussion with your cousin. Maybe others can chime in about logistics of moving people around, if needed.

I am normally NOT a girl who uses a travel agent, but in this case I think it would be easier.

One thing to be aware of...r brother will have to sign a form to allow you to take your daughter off the ship. Yes, even though she is your daughter, if she is not registered in your cabin, you have to have that form signed by the primary adult in the cabin where she is.

And she (the daughter) will also attend the muster drill for the room she's registered in.

I would book your own, have them book their own, and you pay them for your daughter. Then you can link both reservations together online. It's super simple, no TA required. You can choose your rooms, so you would pick two that are right next to each other with a door.
