My 21 year old son and I will be visiting Europe for the first time in a couple of weeks to celebrate his graduation. A couple of days at DLP will close out our trip. So excited! I've heard that line cutting is a bit of an issue there. I've never dealt with it in the parks in the States, so would appreciate any advice on handling it if it comes up. I'm not a confrontational person, but don't want to get railroaded either. Any advice from you experienced folks?

Honestly I'm sure it happens but it's not something I've really noticed enough to let bother me. Mostly over excited teenagers that travel in packs. It can happen in some of the wider lanes like in Pirates where it could be 10 across in some parts. I know other disers have had isolated problems with queue jumping but thankfully in all our visits we don't seem to have noticed. Sharpen up his elbows just in case

I have however had issues at some of the character meets, usually parents of children who aren't the least bit interested, but they seem to have more organised meets now so hopefully that's better now.

Snap.....over 30 trips and I only experienced it a handful of times.

Like you I'm not a confrontational person, but for the time I loose as a result of one or two people pushing through, it's just not worth getting stressed over anyway....life's too short :)

The worst is for some characters meet 'n' greets, if there is no proper line some people will try to push their way forward (or encourage their kids to do it). But DLP is trying to sort it out and most character meets are now scheduled and have a proper line, and for those that don't they do try to ask guests to behave... It's gotten a bit better in the last couple of years.

I've never had any issues in the lines themselves :)

I found whenever a line had a switchback someone would try to cut you at the turn and then invite their entire family up once the cut was made. It happened to me on just about every ride with a line. I also experienced it at CDG, the Louvre, The Eiffel Tower and just about everywhere else where people have to line up. I felt like people treated it as a challenge to see how many people they could cut. I went to DLP in 2004 and 2010 and it had gotten much worse between my first and second trip. I hear they are trying to crack down on this at DLP but I would really have to see it to believe it. Perfect example, the most infuriating cutting experience I had was at Sequoia Lodge. I had one simple question I needed to ask someone at the front desk. The line was massive of course but I waited patiently. After about 20 minutes in line when I was about 2 people away from it being my turn, someone walks right past the huge queue which was even longer now than when I got in and asks the CM a question. I yelled out "hey, there's a line here", you see I have no problem with confrontation. He says to me, "I just have to ask a question". At this point I had all I could do to keep from punching this guy. I said, "yeah, me too that's what the line is for". At this point he turned his back to me and proceeded to ask his question and the CM who was in the process of checking in another guest, stopped checking in the guest and took out a map and a marker and helped the the line cutter for a good 2 two minutes. It's like they reward line cutting. I really thought I was on some kind of hidden camera show or in some bizzaro alternate universe but this just the way it is there. In the US she would have simply said, "I'd be happy to help you but there is a line". Doesn't that make sense?

It isn't great - some countries in Europe just don't do queuing. Brits are known for our polite queuing!

I agree with the above about it getting better at DLRP, especially with character meets, lines are formed and the CMs try hard now to keep it in check. I also found at character meals that handlers, and more often than not, characters themselves would ignore a child butting in, or point them back to their table etc.

I've only once lost it at DLRP over queue jumpers. It was waiting to go into 'Meet Mickey Mouse' at the Town Square Theatre. There huge queue snaking around the ropes in the building where they show the little cartoons while you wait. The queue was over 40 minutes - we only did it this once as we didn't know what to expect as it was new, wouldn't bother again as we always saw Mickey at Inventions or in the DLH (before they took characters out of hotels). This Grandpa, Grandma and Daughter and Son In Law (no kids), came in and decided to just jump under the ropes and cut between people. I was furious to see them not just jump one line but 4 - no joke! What made it worse was that people were actually moving to let these people do it rather than say no! I had to say something and a British family next to me did the same but they just pretended they couldn't hear our calls. We finally got to the CM at the front of the queue and told her what had happened - of course by this point the said family had been and gone and we'd queued another 30 mins with two small children.... The CM didn't seem bothered at all!

So yes, it happens. But I do believe it is improving. And for what it's worth - I've had it happen twice to us in WDW last summer too - young groups of Americans - once pure cutting in, second time 1 person in queue, 6 turn up to jump in after 15 mins!

As others have said, I try not to let it bother me where possible....

Thanks everyone. Good advice. We will be spending more time in ride lines that character meets (unless he sees a cute princess  ) so it sounds like chances are things will be good... and if it happens, no worries.... we'll be at Disney!

Never had a big problem with line cutters at DLP either. What might be a bit awkward is that certain Fast Pass lanes merge with the standby lane without the presence of a CM for instance at Big Thunder Mountain. Never had big problems there, but it's a weird confrontation.

I was there for 3 days a couple weeks ago and did rides only (no characters) and didn't notice anyone cutting at all. I'm used to the US parks as well, and I'd heard about the line cutting, but I had no issues. Then again, I barely waited in any lines at all except for single rider for Crush.

Was there couple weeks ago, there were extra character meets due to the refurb work ongoing. Didn't see any bad behaviour in the queues and the CMs seemed to have more control over the queues. Guests were fine - patient and polite.

^^^^ This is my experience this past March. It's definitely getting better!!

Halloween 2014 however, that was NOT fun meeting the Villians!! They need to sort this one out.

On the flip side, September 2012 when meeting Jack Skellington, a CM point blank told a lady to get out of line who starting smoking!! Yeay.
