Line jumpers, or "I'm just catching up to my party"

Besides, a grown up refusing to let a child back in line after a trip to the bathroom is a whole lot meaner and ruder than the parent taking their child to the bathroom and coming back to the line. Thank goodness when dd had an emergency while in line for RnRC the people in line had a different attitude than some of the posters here.

In their defense, I don't believe they are talking about a parent and child leaving a line, going to the potty then returning to the line. The posters here who mentioned "blocking" others seem to be doing so upon initial entry into a line, not re-entry. I'm sure if they saw someone leave a line with a small child and return, they'd let them by with no issues.

I personally don't get stressed about line jumping, but I do hate to see large groups ditching at the front. It seems to be happening quite often these days... especially with meet and greets.

I have a 5 year old, newly 3 year old (potty training now) and a 17 month old. So if we wait in line for 45 minutes and suddenly the 3 year old yells out she has to go to the bathroom the whole family must then leave the ride?

I cannot imagine waiting in line for 45 minutes with three kids as young as yours. Hopefully you (and they) won't have to!

I will never forget being at the Judge's Tent with my 5 yo and 2 1/2 yo when then 2 1/2 yo suddenly needed to potty. We had waited 45 min and were 2nd in line for the next group. The CM told me how to get back on the opposite side and I had to run (carrying DS like a football!:rotfl: ) through the Judge's Tent, outside and to the nearest restroom. We flew back this same way and got in to see the characters (luckily there, it's a back hall so we didn't have to pass anyone). I felt horrible but CM's were great about it. DD wasn't yet to the first character so our sprint was good!
Same trip, got some evil looks after DH disappeared from the bus line and then I take both kids and walk to the front to speak with a bus driver of the bus for another resort (DH was suddenly ill and I wasn't sure how to get him and the kids on a bus!). If you're ever in this position, Disney will send a van for you (and then call 911 on the trip back, and then again the next morning......not a good way to end our trip!).
I will let 1-2 people ahead (but only if a mom, dad, child or parent/child combo). I agree that a group shouldn't be allowed to line jump.

My brother and I did the "get a fastpass while the grandparents wait in line" thing once and I will NEVER do it again. It was about 4 years ago and we wanted to "hurry up" and get FP's for Test Track and Mission:Space while my grandparents got in line for Spaceship Earth. The line was HUGE and was barely moving so we thought that if we ran back they would still be in about the same spot and it wouldn't be that huge of a deal. Well when we got back they were quite a ways into the line and I felt horrible trying to snake my way into the line. The good thing was that nobody seemed to really notice or care that much, except for the guy right behind the grandparents. When we caught up to them he was "That was my family you just cut in front of!" Well I shot back that this was my family right here. I felt really bad about it all and will never do it again, but honestly nobody acted like it was a huge deal. My grandpa was ticked off at the guy behind us though...haha

There I am: at the happiest place on earth, my favorite place on earth, with the people I love the most, getting on our favorite attraction; and the thing I am going to let ruin it is someone trying to catch up with their family after a bathroom trip or finishing up buying something? Nope, not happening. Some folks just need to chill out and enjoy thier vacation.

Nobody is talking about a small child/parent leaving a line—or anyone leaving a line—and returning. I think people are talking about those who never entered a line in the first place. People get irritated by those who out and out cut, or wait it out elsewhere. Stopping to tie a shoe, park a stroller, or anything else and then needing to catch-up wouldn’t hold you back 45 minutes, or 30 minutes, or even 15 minutes. *I’m* not even talking about the one parent takes Jr. to see a character while the other parent gets in line for a different character. Still a one-to-one ratio when they reach the character because the parent without Jr. steps aside. Now, if the parent holding a spot in line suddenly has 6 kids join them, that’s another story.

Back to lines in general… If you are sending them on that far ahead, then, I’m sorry, but you are forfeiting your right to ride together. At least sooner. Your party certainly could have chosen to wait for you. Buying an item in a store or getting fast passes does not constitute an emergency or an unavoidable incident, that’s a choice. All that says to me is the line jumper thinks Hey, my time is valuable; save me time by holding me a place in line. A (small) child needing to use the restroom does constitute an emergency. An adult needing to use the restroom is saying, “I’ll catch up after the ride.” Adults can manage on their own very well.

Nobody likes waiting in line. At least not normal people. But it’s part of the deal. As in, deal with it. Why is your (general your) time so much more important than someone else’s? Why do your wants justify being disrespectful to others. Even people who don’t say anything shouldn’t be treated that way. Except for one time of 100s, I’ve kept my mouth shut—I’m usually saying “just let it go, it’s not worth getting angry over”, but I still think it is rude.

I have had two experiences with line cutters. The first one I sort of regret the way I handled it.

We were staying at All Star Sports and we had just missed the bus for AK. There was one family ahead of us that also missed the bus. There was no chained waiting area so we were out in the open. Because we were so close we were in line right where the bus door would open. In no time the line behind was getting a little long and disorganised. It didn't take long before a new line formed just to the right of us. I was floored at these people starting a whole new line when it was obvious where the line was. I kept telling myself, it is no big deal we will get on and get a seat. Then out of the blue this elderly couple starts a new line between the two lines. This was the last straw and it wasn't even 9AM. I stone cold blocked this elderly couple from getting on the bus ahead of us. That old lady gave me the meanest glare and I just didn't care. To this day I feel kinda of guilty about this but at the time it felt right.

The other took place at AK while in line for the new Nemo musical. It had only been open for a few months and we really wanted to see it. It was a shock when we got in line back in Dinoland. Out of the blue this "rough" looking family tried to casually merge into the line in front of us. Again I blocked them from getting in front of us. They were appalled that I block them.

one time we were in line for the maxican small world in epcot and the people in front of us said to the ride operator "two of us are here and there are five more coming." luckily we got on before these five more people came but i feel bad for the people that had to have five people cut in front of them

I can relate this one because I only had a shuttle experience at MCO where I (and a ton of airline employees) were technically in the wrong, but no one was gonna get off the shuttle because of it.

We were going on a Disney cruise and had arrived the night before, staying at the Marriot via Priceline. We called the shuttle and went to the proper stop to wait for it. There was a woman and a bunch of kids sitting way off on a bench, not even close to the stop. We know right where the stop is because we cruise a lot and stayed at the Marriot quite often.

A bunch of pilots and FAs come and line up behind us. The shuttle pulls up, we all hop on and and figure life is good. Suddenly the woman runs over from the bench in a rage. Not sure why she waited till we had all boarded to do so. She starts yelling at the driver that she was there first, which brought comments from several passengers to the effect of "Then you should have been in line." She said, "Well, I called for the shuttle" and the unamimous response was, "Well, we all did too."

I know she was there first, but I sure wasn't gonna get my butt up and neither were any of the others. Maybe if she had asked nicely, but she was in a frenzy. She demanded that the driver do something and he shrugged and said, "I'm not going to kick off a busload of people." She was still spitting bullets when he pulled away. I felt kinda bad, but hey, that's the breaks.

I don't understand why groups split up on the first place! I mean Disney is where you go with family right? Aren't you spending time together? I mean, popping of to get a fast pass whilst the others are in the loo is fine, but calling each other and 'ducking in' just doesnt seem right!

I have to say me and my sister are terrible at the whole ducking outta ride thing, we both have bowel conditions (we blame our parents ;)), so sometimes when we gotta go, we GOTTA GO!! If we aren't too close to the front of the line we will duck out and come back again, and it usually ends up with other sister going as well 'just incase'. I try and tell the people around us, or ask a CM on the way back.

Its now gotten to us doing big 'bathroom breaks' after every few rides, just incase! :worried:

If you guys want to see some SERIOUS queue jumping, go to Disneyland Paris, i have never seen it so bad! We got yelled at by some french people cause they were all standing in the the fast pass entrance to wait for their time, we were just getting in as our time was just about up so we asked them to move, and they started really yelling! Ermmm HELLO, you cant even queue yet!! That trip was the worst for pushers.

Luckly when i go in September, my boyfriend can speak some pretty decent french and tell them where to go! :rotfl:

When in line if a parent w/ a small child tries to get back with family that would be fine with me. However, I also have two small children and I always try to ask if they need to go potty before getting in what appears to be a long line. If they say no, I tell them that if they change then we will be getting in the back of the line or skipping the ride. Just because I am on vacation or in DW does not mean it is not a time to teach my children. Actually it is a great time to teach them.

All others who try to pass me will not meet with success. Its not about being mean or anything. a line is a line, I will wait my turn and so will you if you are behind me. This is also another way of teaching my children. Sometimes you just have to learn to be assertive. I wish to also teach my children this important lesson.

Just stop, and think "what would my friend Mickey do?" LoL, no really. Unless it is 3 or more people or someone that is clearly not with the persons that they told people they had to meet, it doesn’t bug me. I totally understand a mother or father sneaking out to get a drink for thirsty littleones or a quick potty break . Heck, even if the mother wants to sneak off to one of the designated smoking areas…it’s Disney. I’ll usually step to the side and even give the little one a smile as they pass through.

This is one of my pet peeves. I've pretty much taken to not letting people through. It is petty on my part - aware of that. But I'm sick and tired of it.

If you want me to step aside so that they can backtrack through the line, I'll probably do that.

If they prefer to stand at the front of the line letting everyone pass them until they are back with you, that's even better.

But, "We want to ride together"...I'm done with it. We want to ride together, too. That's why we all lined up (together) to do it.

I have no problem with 1 or 2 "catching up". We have done it at least once every trip! We have always had small children or older people with us.

What I do have a problem with is a Mom picking up the ropes to let her family in, in front of 50 other people because she did not want to wait. The husband is completly embarassed, children have no clue it's wrong or what's going on. My DH and I are the only ones to notice and for all of the kids sake do not say anything. This is not the only time it happened with this "woman" she did it later standing in line at the Judges Tent! More of these situations have happened this is just the most recent.

A year or so ago I got my butt chewed off on this board by explaining that I have caught up with my hubby in line after taking one of our kids to the bathroom. The one poster was sooooo offended by my action that I thought my computer screen was going to explode.

My point is it is not worth the stress and energy to get upset at someone over a potty break! I do frown upon a large group trying to catch up but a parent with a newly pottytrained child... come on..relax you're at Disney:thumbsup2

One of THE most aggravating things we've encountered recently are those folks who don't think the rules apply to them.

You know the ones.

They are the people who come up from behind you, repeating, "excuse me, sorry" as if that gives them permission to cut in front. And it is usually with the excuse that they are just trying to catch up to their party.

Well, sorry, but your party should not have entered the que until all members are there!!!

We always make sure we get our group together before we get in line. Why can't they????

Is this still going on a lot at WDW, and what do you do about it?

I just came back and it happened quite a bit to us. Very rude and annoying. Even happened at the Epcot Character Spot area.

I don't have a problem with unplanned bathroom breaks for children and I would never invite conflict by trying to block people from moving ahead, but I must admit after the fourth of fifth person weaving through the line I get more than a little annoyed. My favorite was last January when a couple weaved their way through the line at Maelstrom to catch up with their kids because they had stayed outside to finish their beers. They were actually telling this to everybody in line as if it was a valid excuse.I saw an inordinate amount of this behavior on my January trip but when I went back in April it hardly happened at all.

OK,,,Here's one for ya. Over at AK as many of you know I'm there every day riding EE. Now in the "Standby" line there is a place that has a short field by the FP machines that isn'r really blocked off much. If you can cut through this little grassy field you end up going up a couple short steps an then into the 1/2 way point in the standby line. Anyway back to the story,,,,One morning before the "Single rider line" opened I was in line at this 1/2 way point when who comes sneaking across the little field was a group of teenage kids. The CM working the FP machine didn't see them do this. They just jumped in line a couple people behind me. So me wearing my clicker (keeping count of my runs on EE) went up to them and said " Hey guys, Guess what? I'm gonna give you a Magical Moment". Now they must have thought I worked there seeing the clicker aroung my neck and got all excited. So I said come on,,,Follow me. I proceeded to take them toward the entrance of the ride (not the loading area)and when we reached the entrance I told the CM there I was giving these kids a "Magical Moment". (hehehe,,the CM knew what I was talking about). I then proceeded to escort the teens out past the FP area. They looked bewildered. Then we ended up where the end of the line was,,,, I said there ya go. Thats your Magical Moment for jumping the line the way you did. I then told the CM at the FP machine what had happened and that they missed seeing them cut through the field. You see,,,I had this worked out with the CMs if I had ever saw people cutting through that field. They told me I could do it. ºOº

I think sometimes you can't always assume people are cutting in line. About 5 years ago when my son was barely a year old i was in the tent where you can meet all the characters and after waiting about 15 minutes in line i realized my camera batteries had died so i ran out to the stroller alone to get extra batteries we had but as i was trying to get back to my wife and son, i was stopped by a woman on line who refused to allow me through. I explained to her but her answer was "well bring your wife and son and they can wait behind me". They even called a CM over and made a big deal, by the time it was over my wife had already gone through and we just left with no pictures of my son and the few characters. On a positive note, my son is now 6 and we're making our first trip back since then and hope to have a magical time!
