Drinks.... specifically adult drinks...... Most of us enjoy them from time to time. Even in the SW galaxy, it was fun to hang out with your friends at the "local watering hole" (or maybe it was sketchy... weren't they looking for a bounty hunter or something??). But how to do this and stay on plan?? Many (okay, MOST) adult beverages are dripping with calories! How do YOU keep an evening of fun with friends ON PLAN??

This month with a few exceptions one of my changes in limiting my alcohol consumption to weekends. I do enjoy wine, and love a good margarita, but I have never liked beer. My husband is a big craft beer fan and is always trying to find ones I like, and there are a few that are okay, but mostly I figure its not worth the calories since I don't enjoy it. I try to limit myself to two glasses if/when I do have it on weekends. Times like tonight are tricky. I am making a dish for dinner that requires white wine, so I will likely have a glass, because I don't want to waste it. But I will be sure to limit it to 1 glass, and track it on MFP.

I've just done the unthinkable. I've signed up for my first 5k.

What have I done?!?!?! At least it's the perfect one for me - http://www.fatass5k.com/

Congratulations. Sounds like a fun race and festival:) Enjoy and watch out, you may just become hooked!

I'm normally a beer guy, but since I've started this back in January my consumption of beers has been in the single digits. I've switched to Captain and Diet Cokes which is much lower in calories, but I have also been trying to cut back on the diet soda so I can't win! If I know I'm going to have a couple beers, I just know I have to eat a little lighter throughout the day and limit the carbs. I also switched to drinking Ultras, which are lower in the carbs/calories than my usual Blue Moon.

Oh my gosh Blue Moon is a killer! I guess because it's unfiltered? I try to stick with Corona Lights and Guinness (which is surprisingly low cal). But in the summer I love a good summer shandy and in the fall I'm all about that Sam Adams Oktoberfest. Ahhh beer :drinking1

I am really in the minority here. I don't drink adult beverages. The most I will have is a wine cooler if I am hanging out with friends. I have never been a big alcohol person since a half a drink leaves me with a headache the next day. SO not worth it. I also started a new medication in Oct. I am angry with the doctor since she did not tell me that the medication package says "NO ALCOHOL" . It is not a big loss for me but she still should have told me.

I am going to get on my soap box right now so if you don't want to listen please don't. We were talking about my ds's up coming wedding. It is about 15 minutes away from our house and we will not be staying at the hotel that the out of town guests are staying at. MY sil was surprised. She said isn't a wedding a great place to get drunk? I have nothing about people drinking but I do not like to see people get rip roaring drunk. I still don't understand this about some people. These are usually the people who when they find out you don't drink will ridicule you for not drinking(Just like people asking why you aren't eating something). Let me be who I am and that is a person who does not need a drink to get through a party. DONE

I don't teach today so I am running errands and getting things done. I have been to Motor Vehicle, grocery shopping and now getting ready to clean out the frig and finish putting groceries away. I have papers to grade today and I want to cut out a quilt.

Lots to do so have a happy and healthy day.

I get this all the time too. My boss was good friends with my neighbor (that is how I got this job) and they would both try to get me to go out to bars and drink. They did not understand why I did not want to. I only worked with that boss for a few months but I lived next to my neighbor for close to 10 years. Every summer she would try to get me to out. It is just not my thing.

Well, this is pretty easy for me. I really don't drink. And because it happens so infrequently, I just don't worry about what I'm drinking. It's how I think eating sweets (or other "bad" foods) should be...if you do it in moderation and on a special occasion, don't worry about how many calories/carbs/fat. Once in a while won't hurt you!

I don't normally drink but if I do it's usually just one or two and it's either a beer or a glass of wine. I don't typically do the "girly" drinks unless I'm out for a party but then I specifically plan to be "over" that day so it's used as a reward. That being said if I have no wine at home then a coke and vanilla vodka makes a nice like drink too!

^^^^

This right here. I didn't drink a lot at my own wedding but I had a lot of friends and family that got totally smashed. I found it amusing watching them squint at the light in the breakfast room and I'm just like oh wow what a beautiful day!

It's easy for me, I don't have any friends.
When I do drink, I always limit myself to 1-2 drinks. Mostly because alcohol and I don't get along too well.
(Except at weddings, when I've been known to have 3-4 glasses of wine)

Awww -- I hope that was sarcasm :( I feel you on the 1-2 drinks. I'm a "one and done" type of girl, myself.

I read up on this and it sounds amazing. You're going to love it and become addicted to running more races.

I'm the same here. I rarely drink and when I do it's a treat. I save enough calories for the wine and babysit it through the night.

I didn't realize how bad the girly drinks were for you until I looked at the calorie count. Yikes! It's good to do those in moderation as well!

I somehow adopted the role of the designated driver - so I don't think I really drink when out with friends. We've never been big drinkers and our friends aren't either. It also keeps our dining bills down. :)

Fantastic!! The race sounds like so much fun and I am sure you will rock it!!! Getting out for a race is so great for motivation!

But in the summer I love a good summer shandy

Oh, yes!! This is very much part of the summer here in Germany: Sit in a beer garden and have a shandy! Of course while this is lower in alcohol, it is even higher in calories than beer!! So, I have been avoiding them... Some people here drink "sour shandies", i.e. beer mixed with club soda. But then I really rather drink both drinks separately...

These are usually the people who when they find out you don't drink will ridicule you for not drinking(Just like people asking why you aren't eating something). Let me be who I am and that is a person who does not need a drink to get through a party. DONE

I absolutely find behavior like that inexcusable. And I like to drink!! I would even get a bit tipsy on a wedding (not really drunk though as I would find that inconsiderate towards the host and I don't get really drunk anyway). There are so many reason why people might not want to drink and all of them would be very personal. A good friend of mine does not drink since her son was severely injured by a drunk driver. Why should she be obliged to tell that story to any stranger who thinks that she needs to drink a glass of alcohol. Or someone who is a recovering alcoholic. Or a woman who is pregnant but doesn't want to know the whole world know just yet. I find that kind of behavior so rude and have said something in the past when I was part of a group where someone was telling someone else that they ought to drink something. Sorry for getting on the soap boy, too, but I felt that I wanted to let you know that even people who drink alcohol can understand your point of view! :goodvibes

QOTD:

I have to say that I have reduced my alcohol consumption by a lot since I started to try to lose weight. I actually like to drink. My parents often would have a glass of wine or a beer in the evening to relax and it is something that I enjoy, too. But ever since I found out about how much calories these drinks bring with them, I have reduced my consumption by quite a bit. Even when I go out with friends, I would often just drink club soda. I do make a decision if I want to drink and budget it within my calories. Often I would start with a nonalcoholic drink and get my first glass of wine or a cocktail a little later. I find that that helps me to not be so much tempted to drink more.

I thought I was going to be in the minority with this - but seems I'm not - I also don't drink regularly and when I do its only a couple. In my younger days I drank more but even back then couldn't handle as much as all my friends and I would end up throwing up and in bed asleep. So I learnt to adjust my intake so I could still enjoy the parties/nights out. I found after I developed anxiety depending on the drink rather than relaxing me - when I feel the changes in my body from the effect of the alcohol it can actually trigger my anxiety :confused3. I do enjoy a corona with lime, a sweeter wine red or white and a cocktail if out and feeling like something fancy. I don't like beer or other drinks for that matter when they are not cold so I can't nurse it too long or it just gets thrown away. I also space it out with drinking water as well.

I also, hate it when other people pressure you to drink or drink as much as them.

I too am a rare special occasion drinker. I also have an alcoholic father and had beer aversion therapy in high school and still don't even like the smell. I think I mentioned discovering the ice cream martinis at the France ice cream shop a couple trips ago and now they are a must have. I also like the rum infused Dole Whip but it's not a have to. There's a theme brewing here... Booze+Ice Cream.

I'm not having a great week so far, as the sugar monster has been awakened and I've been giving in to cravings. I've managed to stay close in points but have a fear of losing control. I so want to get into the 180s before my trip which means -4 pounds, so I need to get back on track.

Seems like I'm a lot of others here - I don't really drink much. I'm usually the DD if we go out, which I'm fine with to a point. The older I've gotten though, the more annoying it is to be the only sober person at a gathering. I'm not at all against drinking, but as the years go by, I've just seen a lot of negatives in my circle that revolve around alcohol, so I'd rather just not be around people over-indulging in certain situations.

Typically when we go out for a night of fun, it does involve eating out though, and I've had varying degrees of success keeping myself on plan with that. For example, tonight DS had a soccer game and we usually (always) eat out before or after the games. Today I had a coupon for a pretty big percentage off of Ruby Tuesdays and I was tempted to suggest that we go there. But, I LOVE their salad bar and knew that I probably wouldn't be able to stay even close to on plan, so I didn't even suggest it, even though it would have been a good deal and delicious. Instead we went to a BBQ place where my portions were controlled and they have delicious salads - so it was a win, win!

I have had a really good day today - so wanted to share - I have been good with my food - I bought a lean cuisine for lunch (because I was disorganised this morning) didn't taste all that great but given that in the past I would have just had McDonalds on a day like this that was a positive. Even when making dinner and I was starting to feel a little spacey - after exercising and it had been a while since lunch I pushed through and did not do my usual sneak some chocolate. I met the girls at the beach this morning for our paddle workout. Then I decided this afternoon to go for the first time to a free yoga class put on the staff at my base school. It was about an hour of yoga followed by a 10-15 minute relaxation. The yoga is once a week - so I am aiming to go every week. When I thought about sneaking when making dinner I just kept saying to myself - don't sabotage all your hard work today!

I have a glass or two of prosecco or bellini cocktail. It's smaller size glass, I don't have more then 2 ever and I don't go out that much so I don't feel too bad about it!

back to the gym yesterday - enjoyed my workout. Quote of the day for today for me - don't let the perfect be enemy of the good

I will get out for nice walk - sun is out - not that often in Ireland!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I managed to get a nice 35 minute run in this morning. I am starting to really enjoy those morning runs again!! It does help when the weather is nice though...

The scale hates me. I had a really fantastic stretch of eating over the last 10 days and am rewarded by a gain of two pounds... I am quite confident that it has something to do with my body storing water (I know it does that and can feel it), but I am getting to the point where I am a bit frustrated by the number... I keep thinking if my body is retaining the water, shouldn't I then at least see a downward movement from the high number, too. I know that eating more and unhealthy stuff is not going to change a thing, so I just keep doing what I am and hope for a big woosh soon!

Even when making dinner and I was starting to feel a little spacey - after exercising and it had been a while since lunch I pushed through and did not do my usual sneak some chocolate.

This is what I use carrots for. I often will get a large carrot to eat while I am making dinner. I find because those are quite a bit of work to chew they keep me buy very nicely and they do fill me up just a little bit so that I am not all out hungry and start to find snacks in the fridge while I am in the kitchen.

I will get out for nice walk - sun is out - not that often in Ireland!

Enjoy the sunshine!! :sunny:

First of all, an apology. I have NOT kept up with the chatter this month as I would like to.... life got in the way. Thankfully I can SEE that so many of you are taking the time to give support and encouragement and BRAVOs where they are needed!! THANK YOU!! This group just keeps getting better and better!!

I'm off to work in exactly 16 minutes and I haven't made breakfast for DS yet, so I'll be quick here. But I am working a 24/7 shift tonight and may have time between calls to check in!

Next up......... your Wednesday QOTD!!.................P

WELCOME TO WOOHOO Wednesday!!

Glad to hear you are enjoying your runs and the weather :-). It must be very frustrating when you are doing the right things food and exercise wise and not seeing the expected results o_O.

Next up......... your Wednesday QOTD!!.................P

We know that this wasn't a month you originally planned to host and that you stepped up to fill a gap - so thank you for that and I think your QOTDs have been very though provoking and informative. You are doing a good job linking Star Wars where you can lol to fulfil your promise of keeping SW theme. :D

PLEASE share a woohoo that has happened in the past 7 days! Whether it is a NSV (non-scale victory), signing up for a new exercise class or a race or, or just something in your life that made you happy.... SHARE!!

After I read this I realised I actually had shared my woo hoo in my last post without realising it and that it is actually Wednesday night for me so my woo hoo Wednesday is almost over haha. So woohoo to me for increasing my exercise this week, making good choices today, and woohoo to the Principal at my base school for organising free yoga for his staff!

Off to bed now - have a great woohoo Wednesday everyone.
