Here's a quick post this morning. Running out to part II of our church's marriage conference. Running late since it's 8:06 am now (PST) and starts at 8:30 am. I think Wendy was not amused that I'm DISing instead of getting the kids ready (I guess I'm already blowing what I'm supposed to be learning about marital duties)

Well, this morning I had 11 pages to catch up on since yesterday at noon!

I'm with you, sister, I found 10 pages last night, so 11 is on pace and we'll get to 250 in no time flat!

This made me think of something I've recently found out that I have, called "Asian Flushing Syndrome" - sort of like an alcohol intolerance. I wonder if it's related. Although I'm not lactose intolerant. But anyway, it made me think of it.

Funny, I always wondered what that Asian flushing syndrome was called and that's it! I wonder now if I'm a real anomaly (or maybe not Asian at all) since I turn pale if I have too much to drink.

What kind of camera are you using now? I just got my first Nikon dSLR.

Congrats on your Nikon dSLR. What model did you buy? I'm shooting with a Nikon D90 but want to upgrade to a D300s down the road for the full frame photos but need to buy some better lens. Right now I have the kit 18-105mm with VR (Vibration Reduction) and also use my AF (auto focus) 70-300mm (non VR) which works for distant shots but lose focus quality at the end of the focal range. But it was a cheapo Nikon lens (I think I got it for $200 or less). Unfortunately, the low end 70-300mm lens with VR is like $500 but with an 4.5 fStop whereas the high-end 70-200mm lens with a 2.8 fStop and VRII that I would love to have is like $2,700 (it's pro quality). I guess this isn't in the cards.

OMG! I was just thinking about this very thing (see above)! I have Asian Flushing (although I'm not Asian - that I know of). I've always flushed when I drank, and I also get allergic-like symptoms. Its gotten worse over the years to the point where its not worth it for me to have a drink unless I've taken benadryl first. I decided to look into it and found out its related to this Asian Flushing syndrome, where you lack a certain enzyme that is needed to break down the alcohol. Apparently, something like 50% of people of Asian descent have this. Well, 50% of Asians.... and me. I guess you are in the lucky half, Derek!

I saw them and I love them! I've grown up seeing the sun rise over the ocean, I cant wait to see it set over the ocean as well. It's on my list of things to do once the kids move out....or get kicked out!

Ive lived up north (Buffalo, NY), down south (Gulfport Mississippi) and in the "Mid-Atlantic" (Va Bch, VA and now Williamsburg VA).

Everywhere ive lived Ive always heard Butt Crack of Dawn. I never really gave it any thought!

I never gave it any thought either. I am going to have to ask around now and see if others here have heard of it. I just asked two people in the office and they have heard it before.

Yep! We moved around all the time though as my dad was in the Canadian Navy (he was on exchange postings in the States). We have lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Victoria, British Columbia, Ottawa, Ontario, California and Virginia and now back to Ontario.

Since they won't take them at 10 I've had to start my own version of military school! Yes, this means I looked it up! The kids?????? Oh, I think you mean the 2 psychotic gang bangers that are running around my house beating the crap out of each other due to an on-going turf-war! I, being the the law abiding citizen, am not getting in the middle of this war! They are driving me even more insane than usual today. It was rainy here this morning and now its wet and muggy outside so neither of them can go out.

We got the results of AJs speech evaluation yesterday and they are going to proceed with more testing. They believe he has Apraxia...here is the link cause I lack the brain power to explain it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apraxia
It means that we are going to have a harder time getting him caught up. On the plus side, he is going to have a slot in pre-school next year. The down side is that they confirmed that he will be special ed for the first few years of school. We have more tests over the next few weeks to see where they need to focus first. They have to do a home visit too which means that its time to purge the house. Ive been looking for a reason to get rid of crap and this is it!

Yes Derek, you really ARE the minority of the minority, haha! But then again, if we're talking worldwide....asians are hardly the minority. We're more like the majority!

My father had allergy-like symptoms when he drank too, so he's been sober for 20+ years. It's just not worth it anymore.

But then there are also Asians that turn red, but can really hold their liqueur. But that's just a matter of tolerance really. My DBF is a pretty heavy drinker, and he's also one of the few that doesn't get red.

Me, after 1 drink, my body turns into a tomato I almost look sunburnt.

Gang bangers!! To funny! Yaaaaay for pre-school!! That will help Mama take a load off for a few hours a couple days a week. You'll probably fill it with exciting things like cleaning and grocery shopping, but at least you'll be able to do it without the kiddos for a couple of hours, isn't it amazing what you can get done without having to load the kids in the van/car and unload them to get into and out of a place. Even without strollers! Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but as with any person you spend day in and day out with, they drive ya nuts at times!! All in good time these things will work themselves out.
As for your boy being in special-ed for a few years....I had some friends in highschool who had been in special-ed for most of their school career, had they not told me I would have never known, some of the most outstanding and amazing people I've ever had the privilege to know. So don't stress it, (easy to say I know) and know that no matter what your boy will come out in the end pretty amazing.
I mean really, look how perfectly normal it is to be chasing around your older sister beating the carp out of her?!? Ya know?

Thanks for stopping my tiny little report! As for AJ, we know that special ed is nothing like it used to be but, kids are still kids and can be mean as hell! With everything that has already gone on with him, I fear what the teasing will do!

Are you familiar with Apraxia? We have heard the term several times but there have always been other things that have over-shadowed it.
