Have a great time at the show. Get the FastPass for the show to avoid the queue which is mostly in the sun. Then head for a spot in the shade once you are in the grandstand.
I wouldn't necessarily worry about running to get one that early. The stadium for this one is huge. We arrived for a mid-day show last summer about 30 minutes prior to the show and there was no problem getting in. However, if you want a FastPass (which would probably give you better, centered seats -- although the way the show is set up, I don't think there's a bad seat), you could get one a little later in the am. No need to get frantic if you don't get a FastPass, though.
If I grab a FP for this show as soon as possible upon entering then I won't be able to FP any other FP attractions right? <sorry still trying to learn the ropes> because I of course will need to FP the Mermaid show for DS7.
Yes. If I'm not mistaken, the Fastpass people get seated first, meaning, you'd probably have to arrive a half-hour prior to the show (it will say it on your ticket). When we saw the show and didn't have FastPasses, we arrived a half hour early and were herded into a line. We probably didn't seat until about 10 minutes prior to the show.

You are correct. A select few attractions/shows allow you to get a FastPass prior to your first FastPass window expiring, but these attractions are few and far between (and I'm sure someone here on the boards knows which attactions these are).
The stadium for the Lights, Motors show is huge. If you arrive 25-30 minutes prior to showtime, you should be fine to get in. Even if you get a FastPass, you'd have to arrive that early anyway. Save your FastPasses for something else.
BTW, we never wait for the Little Mermaid show because we always go late in the evening. Last summer, we went to the last show of the night (8:00ish) and we nearly had a private show. Just a thought...
