I went to open LR tonite and in every folder my photo's look like this picture below.

LRexamplesm.jpg

What has happened? I didn't load anything, move anything, nothing at all. I tried to load an backup version and the same thing happened. I went to the photo's via explorer and thank goodness they are okay but my LR isn't working for some reason.. HELP.. I have a full version BTW

Thanks for any help you can provide

Kelly

What version are you on? Have you upgraded recently?

I would try a few things:

1) in the develop module, hit reset to set all photo settings back to normal.
2) export a photo as a new jpg to see if also looks that way.
3) in the catalog settings, hit relaunch and optimize.
4) ask around in this forum: http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc2cf0a/

The badges don't show develop settings (I can see a keywording badge), otherwise a strange preset develop settings would have been my first thought.

If a test image exports ok, I'm more inclined to say that the previews have become corrupted. Find your catalog on your hard drive (you can go to File > Catalog Settings to see the location) and you'll see a previews file of the same name next to it. Close LR and rename the previews file (you can always put it back if this doesn't fix it) and relaunch LR. It will have to rebuild previews, but hopefully they should rebuild correctly.

Other than that, I'd be thinking corrupted monitor profile is the next most likely cause.

What happens if you start a new catalog and import a few images (referenced in their existing locations?) If you have the same effect, I'd suspect the monitor profile. If it's catalog specific, I'd suspect the previews.

You can also try www.lightroomforums.net - it's a newer and quieter forum, therefore posts don't get missed as easily as on the Adobe U2U forums, and a lot of the same experts are on there.

SWDopey you are my hero

Well I fixed the problem based on your calibration thougt.

I use Spyder to calibrate my monitor. Last night I got the "your calibration is out of date, calibrate now" message and I clicked no because I was surfing the web at the time. Well a few hours later is when I opened LR and had that mess. The calibration message never crossed my mind. So I just calibrated the monitor and now all is right with LR again so apparently Spyder must talk to LR and when you say no it tells LR not to work.

Thank you all so much for putting your thoughts around this. Now we have all learned a new bug to watch out for.

Glad that fixed it Kelly.

Lightroom's tied in much more closely with monitor profiles than most programs. It works in it's own internal colour space (MelissaRGB), so it uses the monitor profile on the fly to render the previews.
