That moment we've all be waiting for has finally come...... Lightroom 2.0 has been officially released!

So what's new?

The short list:

* Everything that was already in the beta
* Camera support - official Olympus e420, e520, unofficial Canon 1000d, Nikon D700
* Official release of ACR 4.5
* Volume Browser in the Folders panel
* Easier way to change the folder hierarchy
* Many of the date/time bugs have been fixed
* Much improved local adjustment brush tools
* New Gradient local adjustments tool
* and much much more

It'll upgrade 1.x and 2.0 beta catalogs. Usual common sense backups apply.

But this is the big one....

The DNG Profile Editor has been released as a public beta. It allows the building of complex custom profiles for use with any raw files (not just DNG). No more complaints about ACR/Lightroom's colour - it can be whatever YOU want it to be.

And what's more, new camera profiles have also been released which replicate the manufacturer's own appearance. No more 'why does Lightroom mess up my photos' - the profiles are an excellent match.

Been using the demo for a few days now, I will probably upgrade. I love the local adjustments, it's time to buy the tablet that I've been putting off for so long.

One thing that bothers me is the post-crop vignettes. I was looking forward to this feature, but unlike the previous vignette tool that worked by adjusting exposure, the post-crop version is just a brightness mask, making it completely useless. Still have to open in PS for post-crop vignettes

Code, I've been complaining about that one for a while, so put in a bug report - the more people who ask for a 'darken' mode similar to the lens correction vignette, the more likely it is to be adjusted. Here's the form: Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form

I've only just started to play with it, but I very much like the multi-monitor support. I have it showing the full pic on one monitor while doing the actual editing on the other, which is a nice way to see what the entire photo looks like as well as zoom in for close-up work. At the moment, I'm going through photos from the Watkins Glen racetrack, and I can easily flip through photos with 1:1 on my main monitor, and look at sharpness on that monitor while checking overall composition (or room to crop) on the other monitor. Saves me from having to zoom in and out.

I suspect you can do more than just that with the second monitor, but as I say, I just started to play with it and have not read anything about it, I'm just winging it at this point.

Not me, sorry... I'm a sports car and rally car guy. I actually did end up at a Nascar race at Watkins Glen some 15 years ago or so... we wanted to see the sports car race on Saturday and the tickets were full weekend ones, so we ended up coming back just to see what it was like. Never again! Not my scene at all (even forgetting that the Nascar guys don't run the boot.) Nowadays, I pretty much only go to the historic and the vintage races... very laid-back, you can wander pretty much anywhere without paying extra, there's a ton of great old sports cars (especially the vintage, not so much at the historics), etc... lots of fun.

Has anyone played with the new "Adobe Standard" raw profiles yet?

They are supposed to correct the "orangey reds" that so many people complain about with ACR output. I downloaded them (it's not automatically part of LR2) and tried them out... but I think for now, I'll stick with the older presets, at least for the K20D (which seemed to be better with ACR than my DL & K100D, I haven't checked those much in LR2 yet.) It seems to have gone too far in the opposite directions... reds are distractingly dark and red, and photos of a car that is supposed to be orange come out red!

Supposedly we'll see profile that match the output from the camera manufacturers themselves, and it'll be easier to tune your own... but I think they're still not quite there yet.

The Adobe Standard profiles I'm not that excited about. The new camera emulation profiles for Canon/Nikon are a pretty close match to the camera, which shows the potential for the new profile editor.

Edit: Ah, just spotted in your signature, Pentax. Whether Adobe will create camera emulation profiles for every camera out there, I find a bit unlikely, but it's open to third parties to do too.

Yes. I love it, although I am using the Camera Standard profile instead of the Adobe Standard. It comes very close to the results you get with DPP, which is Canon's raw processor software.

I've found that you may have to play with the different profiles to see which is best suited for the type of photo you are processing. Also, know that this setting should still be used as a starting point for processing. I have set the default profile to Camera Standard but sometimes switch to another one of the preset profiles if they fit the category, such as Camera Portrait of Camera Landscape.

Well, not a choice yet. I'm sure that either Adobe or someone else will put together some camera-specific profiles for my DSLRs. The "Adobe Standard" profile is definitely not a clear improvement, it just goes too far in the opposite direction. For the moment, it's either 4.4 or Standard.

I deal almost 100% with pro wedding photographers Groucho, so I see almost all Nikon/Canon/Fuji. I'm sure it's a great camera though.
