Just wondering if anyone has had their lighters taken away before getting on their flights? I read somewhere that this happened to someone and they lost a nice lighter. If this is the case I guess we will have to deal with matches. Disney doen't sell theme lighters do they?

Disney doesn't sell theme lighters. They actually discourage smoking--I guess after the fearless leader died of lung cancer it was a bit of a wake up call to the corporation. Just as an FYI, all restaurants are non-smoking, and smoking in theme parks is restricted to designated smoking areas, clearly defined on the park maps.

Lighters are not on the official FAA no-no list, but why take the chance?

Butane hair curlers are acceptable as CHECKED BAGGAGE only. Butane refills are NOT acceptable as carry-on OR checked baggage.

I know you were referring to a lighter- however I think they are butane:confused:
I wouldn't bring it, but if you have to, put it in your checked luggage.

These restrictions were in place BEFORE Sept 11, so I am sure they still apply!!;)

I have yet to have a problem bring a lighter on board.
As to lighters at WDW, the other poster was correct, they don't sell any thing like that.
As to discouraging smoking, no, they don't. They just don't encourage it and try to contain it for the safety of the other guests. They did not stop selling cigs and cigars until about a year or so ago. You can still purchase them at the resorts, however.
