We are headed to WDW in June with DD 9 and DS 6....I'm quite certain DS will want a light chaser and am wondering if DD will want one also? Does anyone have a DD who has gone recently at this age? I'd like to buy them earlier if they are less expensive...maybe at the Disney Store...

Thanks!

Most kids want them.

When the lights go down on the street, The parade music gets loud.. Up and down the street are the vendors selling them.. Kids lighting up the streets, I think the temptation is TOO great.. LOL..
She probably would want one. And if she is like most of our kids, She will play with it for about 3 min and forget all about it. LOL.. Have a great trip..:earsgirl:

My DD8 liked the glo necklaces and bracelets better. (Although she would have been happy with a light chaser.) I bought several of the glo necklaces at the dollar store before we left and the girls played with them while waiting for the parade. They hooked them up into different shapes, made an angel halo, hooked as many together as possible, etc.

She also ended up spending her $20 souvenir money on one of those twirly light things that spell words. That's what she wanted to spend her money on so I let her. She wanted that instead of a shirt or princess doll, etc. We didn't buy it until the end of the trip, so didn't get much use of it. But we are bringing it with us this next trip too so it was a smart purchase for her.

I got my son glow necklaces and glow sticks from the dollar store. Then I found a pooh lightchaser for 2.99 on deals at disney on ebay and since I was ordering other stuff from them ,s/h was low. Now he'll have tons of glow stuff ! I wouldn't spend $16 or whatever they cost at the park on them though. I'm sure he'd want one and be willing to spend his own money on them though. I think they'll both want them once they see other kids with them. I've heard of them being on sale at the Disney Store, but ours closed:rolleyes:

I agree with buying glow necklaces from the dollar store. (or Ebay if you want a huge stock!)

In Jan. I took a bunch with us. My DS age 10 and DD age 6 loved having them. They liked the other items, but were happy with the necklaces, since it left them free to spend their money on other items.

**Just remember to take them with you in the AM if you are not going back to your room. Several nights we didn't have them, because we didn't think to grab them in the AM. We finally ended up putting them in front of the room door, so we wouldn't forget them!

Go to the ake Buena vista outlet before you go to Disney. When we was there last time I got the chaser that spells out words for 2.99 there. My kids were thrilled with them and cannot wait to take them back this time!

The light chasers were on sale at Disney Store last week for $9.99. Not sure how long the sale lasts. I bought ahead for our upcoming May trip for DD5 & DSs 8 & 10. They ask everytime we go & we've never purchased them at the parks. We were on a car trip when I bought them last week & DS8 played w/ his already hours in the car & batteries are almost gone already. Be sure to pack extra batteries for WDW!

Can someone explain the version that spells out words??? You've got me stumped...can't imagine how this works! Thanks for everyone's input. I wish we lived closer to a Disney store...not sure when will be going to one and I bet they won't be on sale then!

I have found light chasers at the flea market and garage sales.....we've usually paid .50 or $1 for them. After each trip, I put them away, along with some small stuff I save for travel. My 9 year old used one on our last trip.

I just bought 300 glow bracelets from ebay for $20. I used 50 to put in a birthday basket I donated to our kids school auction, and I'm saving the rest for an annual July 4th party and our trip to WDW in August.

These light spinners that spell out words are like this. They look a lot like the New Years eve spinners that you swing around and they make noise. The thing is they have red lights on the end and you can get it to say anything. Yiou do not see it until tou swing it around in the dark then the lights show up and make the words like a marquee! They sell them at the park for $20 and the outlet had them for 2.99. The people selling on the cats before Fantasmic and such spin them and it is a big hit with kids... even teens!

Can you tell me exactly where the outlet is? We'll be driving from Tampa and have a car, but I"m unfamiliar with the WDW area in general. Are the ones at the outlet the same as the ones at WDW? Thanks!:D

IT is the Lake Buena Vista Outlet mall. It has Character Corner. They are just like the ones at Disney because this is an outlet for the Disney merchandise that doesn't sell or is last years model etc. I think the outlet is on 535 but not sure. (Hubby does the driving) You can get scrapbooking stuff and postcards (they are 10 cents) and such really cheap. My kids ot T-shirts for $3.:earseek:

My husband and I give the kids their own souvenier money. When it's gone, it's gone. Do those light chasers look cool? Is that your souvenier money to spend? Then, go for it! My kids have never bought one. They'd rather spend their money elsewhere. (BTW, I haven't bought them one either?)

My boys are 17 & 10 and they will have light chasers at night.

When it's dark on Main Street before the parade, it does look nice with all the glow necklaces & light chasers.

That's exactly what my daughter did last trip. She thought it looked cool and spent her whole souvenir money on it. That's what made her happy and she did not ask for anything else or complain once after she bought it.

I found a website for the Skywriter (the light chaser that spells words.) It is Skywriter . They have a cute demo you can watch.

Thanks for the link....very neat! Even after the explanations, I was having a difficult time visualizing!

So, just how much do these cost in the parks? And, are the customized with Disney phrases, etc? Thanks!

I think the skywriters were $20. They have some preset words, but you can input anything you want. We put in "Go Mickey" to use at Fantasmic!
