Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

It's great that you got a visit from the PIN fairy!

I love computers....as long as they co-opperate with me. When they frequently don't...I have my dh to take care of them.

I feel your pain with deadlines and people not getting things turned in. I was in the pta presidency for 3 years....I left with a few les hairs and brain cells.

Sometimes, I'm amazed at how the Lord works. He never takes your problems totally away, but helps you to overcome them with a little help along the way. With dh being out of a full time job for almost a year now, I've seen it time after time. Just when i think we're going to have to drive the cars flinstone style...something comes along and we make in through.

Ready to comment, but alas the multi-quoting demons have struck, and I'm in quite the funk. Spent most of my morning trying to figure out the what halelujah I need to do to get it back to working.

From the above solioquy you already know my feelings about mis-behaving technology. However, your consternation must be far worse- a computer that doesn't even show ANYTHING must be the mother-of-all problems!! Glad Mr. Dell-man was nice enough to give you the time you needed!

I hear what you're saying about procrastinators and deadlines. I love that saying: Lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on mine. Get your acts together, people!

Being hard on computers?? HA! I should tell you about the time my kid (can't remember which one) tripped on the power cord, and the whole laptop came crashing down on the floor! There went the screen. Then about 2 months later, another one (might have been the same kid) puked on the keyboard. There that went. Said computer was from then on a "desktop". The present laptop has held out pretty well. Kids are older, and generally don't puke on computers anymore- their aim is better now, I guess.

OK, there's a bunch I want to comment on, but honestly, I need a bath and bed right now. I'll have to pick this up in the morning while I sip my coffee.

Have a great rest of the day; nighty night!

I feel the same way! I'm up late fighting with printer drivers and I have to be up early. Darn Cub Scouts Veterans Day Service thingamajobber!

I'm telling you, once I dump this thing at the printer tomorrow and get some groceries, we are playing hooky and going to see Where The Wild Things Are.

Laundry, schmaundry. As well as the 10 other print items I have to deal with!

lol. I just want bed. No bath (going to bed with wet hair, ICK!)

Wowzer...it's always something isn't it?

Sorry about your computer...I would not have handled that well pre coffee at all...I'm hoping that all settles for you...

Sending you  on the job front...it really didn't sound like that was the right op for you and you didn't seemed as grooved by it as you would have if it was really something you wanted...

Super de duper yeah on your PIN code...now you just need to get your dates to all work out for you...:thumbsup2

Sending good wishes...pixiedust:

Thanks! It will all work out, hopefully I won't kill Jeff's laptop in the meantime, it is NOT happy about all the junk I've loaded onto it and it wasn't a high performer before that anyway. A few more days....

I really miss my machine though, it's SO much better!

So sorry to hear about the computer problems, but I am so glad that you got a pin--it helps make things easier for you, I know.

YAY for PIN Codes!

Cynthia -

Al caught up and so much to comment on!

1. congrats for the pin code. that is really good news. I hate to say this, but I think K's mom is gonna take this thing right down to the wire. You're gonna be sweating it out by the end.

2. Bummer on the computer issues. I really hope everything gets resolved soon and to your satisfaction.

3. Good luck to your FIL. I would be really suprised if this lesion shrunk, but I am glad he is feeling better.

4. It sounds like you are satisfied with the outcome of the job interview. I'm glad everything ended well and don't be surprised when they call you again - cause they will.

All right - I have had far too many interruptions so I can't remember everything else I wanted to say. Doh!

Yep, we'll be sweating it out and dollars to donuts we will be put in a situation where we have to buy a ticket and potentially eat it and then 40 days out they add a tournament and she can't go after all and there is some penalty to take her off the ressie or the heat in Florida will be too difficult for her to keep up her training schedule or...whatever. She will find a way to try to stop this from happening. The only reason it has a real chance is because Sandie is going. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I can count on it, it's very predictable and nothing we can do will alter it. So we will roll with it and if it works, great, if it doesn't then it's a shame but the world will go on.

Last year we bought our tickets on 12/31/08 for a 2/12/09 trip and were not confident she was going until....2/1 or maybe even later? The fact that she said April is a bit of a joke to both of us, we know better.

I'd be surprised if the mass has shrunk too. He did mention wanting Jeff to come down if he had the surgery so that's actually encouraging that he brought it up (Jeff had planned to anyway). No news yet.

No presidency for me thank you very much. Exec board/CoVP ways and means is more than enough. My last year, I'll be glad when it's over. Although I'll probably still do the graphic design stuff next year if they want me to. I'm just hoping to get out of co-emceeing the darn thing!

Flintsone style. I can relate! And yet, HE never lets us go quite there...

OY. That's some liquid damage I wouldn't want to clean up. Way to take out system.

EEW!

Yeah, technology is a great and terrible thing. Right now it annoys me...but that's just because I'm being forced to work around a lot of things without my normal toolbox of software. I've been very spoiled!

I can think of worse ways. Although, I confess, I've never taken a laptop into the outhouse. Bad things happen in there to stuff.

All right missy, keep that talk on your TR, we run a clean operation over here.

:rotfl:

I don't think the Yacht Club books up as fast as the Beach, if that makes you feel any better. It seems every time I've gone to check, it's defaulted to Yacht first. :goodvibes

Well it is full for our dates already :scared1: but anything before that seems still available. The whole world is banking on FD I guess.

MAN Jeff has a sticky "control" key on his laptop and it keeps throwing me for a loop!

I miss my 'puter!!

Well, I well keep my fingers crossed that everything works out. :goodvibes

Congrats on the PIN code! Sorry to hear about the laptop. Sounds like some serious frazzling going on there. Hoping the replacement parts come quickly and nothing on the HD was damaged! pixiedust::surfweb:pixiedust:

Hope the Cub Scouts had a rewarding day giving service to the Veterans!! :goodvibes

I know, isn't that crazy??

When my TA was booking it, CRO told her they'd never seen anything like it!

Darn FD BB!

Eric had a great time! I'm waiting for pictures but it was much appreciated I am told!

And thanks for the good vibes :)

I'm glad the PIN Codes give you more flexibility.

Thinking for your FIL and Doug.

Wasn't the right job. God has a plan.

As I age, I think my memory is going. Really I do. Jeff would disagree, he thinks I have a fabulous memory but really it’s all short term and it’s mostly useless (though often entertaining) knowledge.

Life is like that. Sometimes memories stand out, grab you, shape you and make you who you are. Some become things you’d like to forget, but can’t. Others, fodder for stories for years to come. Some…they just disappear.

I wonder if they are hanging out with the lost socks.

When it comes to Disney, both the Land and the World, I have memories that fit into all four categories. I imagine most of us do. When I think back upon those trips, often it’s like watching vignettes, of someone else’s life. Was I really that person once upon a time? I sure don’t feel like that person. I’m not sure I know that person. I’m glad I’m not that person anymore.

It struck me today that I really, truly have very few memories of my first trip to the World. I cannot blame youth…I had to have been 25 or 26. I can’t blame Grey Goose Slushies, I didn’t even know they existed. I am appalled really, when I think about it and it gives me pause.

A trip you see, for me, is colored by those we are with. Dyed. Stained. In indelible ink.

My first visit to the World was with Ex#1. Intellectually I know we went to MK. I know we stayed at a crummy Radisson not too horribly far away. I know we ate bad food at chain restaurants. I can’t recall going to Epcot except for a vague recollection of a picture with SSE in the background. Perhaps we did not go in. I don’t have a clue. I know for a fact I did not go to the WS. MGM definitely existed (though I was unaware) but I am positive that my ex would have been far too cheap for Park Hoppers if such a thing existed. I know we were only there for 2 maybe 3 days and then went to Key West. It was my first visit. I recall comparing things to DL instead of looking at what was there for what it was. I didn’t SEE anything. Then again, perhaps it is because the clearest memory is..

Pleasure Island.

I think that says a lot about where I was at that point in my life.

My second trip was with Ex#2, the E’s dad. Yes, for those of you doing the math I am on the “third time’s a charm” plan. And it IS (a charm). Some of us take longer to figure things out and have to learn the hard way. This was a very different trip. This was actually a wish trip. My ex you see, was pretty darn sick. He was not expected to survive. It’s a rather long story but bottom line is this trip was post surgery and radiation with the goal of helping him find some motivation to fight. My ExSIL was a TA and arranged the wish trip. Which was 1 day passes to WDW and Bush Gardens, guess he was a low ranking wish, not sure I really wasn’t involved in that part, I was more focused on day to day survival. If there was more than that, I’m not aware of it. Was it really his wish? As much as it pains me to say this, no, it was not. He could have cared less. It was my ExSIL’s way of getting free passes for herself.

We went on a cruise for 1 week prior just the two of us and then stayed at a condo in Clearwater with my ExBIL/SIL, my niece, my ExMIL and her boyfriend for the 2nd week. We had 1 day at WDW, which we drove up for, and the same thing at Bush Gardens. The whole thing was a nightmare. I had vertigo after the cruise (which you’d think would stop me from wanting it for my birthday but it’s never happened since and I’ve been on plenty a boat and had cruised 1x before that with no issues…I don’t think it ws the boat). The vertigo lasted almost a MONTH. An “inner ear” problem of some sort that I just had to wait out. I don’t get sick. Ever. It was one of the worst times of my life. Didn’t matter if I stood, sat, laid down, it all spun. All the time. It never stopped.

All I remember of our one day excursion to the world is my ExSIL. Nothing gets in the way of my ExSIL. Certainly not my poor ExMIL with her club foot and hip issues who couldn’t walk as fast as she wanted, certainly not me with my vertigo, certainly not her then 4 year old who got VERY tired and cranky and certainly not my ex with his litany of issues and general misery. I recall simply following, make that chasing, her through MK. I recall my ExMIL crying. I recall her INSISTENCE that we make it to the WS before it closed.

To Mexico specifically.

Not because she loves the WS.

Not because she was hungry.

Not for Illuminations.

She wanted a margarita.

We hauled A-z through the park to get that Margarita. None of us wanted one by that point. None of us cared. We just wanted to go home. My ExMIL and I still shake our heads over that trip. In her mind she isn’t an Ex. I am very blessed in that department. So are the E’s.

Fast forward about 8 years. Ex#2 is now an ex (and yes, clearly survived. Sadly, he hasn’t done much with the gift he has been given which breaks my heart).

My parents decide that for Christmas that year, they want to take everyone to WDW.

They’d attempted this at DL in 2001. I was still with Ex#2. He later bragged that he ruined the trip for everyone (all 16 of us or so). Which, frankly, he did. It didn’t help that is was 3 weeks after 9/11 and that the park was deserted and people in general were a bit freaked out. We split up 4 months later. TMI I am sure but, just setting the stage.

Jeff and I were dating. Seriously. We were actually building a house but hadn’t told anyone yet. We were actually planning to get married, but hadn’t told anyone yet.

My family is close. We are…

A Clan.

Case in point. My dad and brothers.

My family rocks.

And if anyone can guess the clan by the Tartan you get...a binder layout! Or something :)

It is HARD for anyone to come in. It shouldn’t be. We don’t mean it to be. But we hear, over and over again, that it is. We are a big family. I am the oldest of 6. There is a bunch of kids between us. Lots of little boys all about the same age. For some reason we all chose partners that have 1, 2 tops in the sibling department, who each has one child if any, and not a lot of aunts or uncles. Or they aren’t close. It is a culture shock for them.

This was…

A test.

I’d like to say it wasn’t. It was. There were 20 of us on this trip, the family had grown since 01. It’s even bigger now.

Memories are a funny thing. What is forgettable, laughable, embarrassing and devastating can disappear in the blink of an eye when good memories happen.

Perhaps it’s because when your expectations are so low, there is nowhere to go but up. Perhaps it is a change in oneself and how they see things around them.

For me, my adult Disney memories start here.

My magic, my own personal pixie dust.

If I’m brutally honest, my Cinderella story.

Next...a miracle

thank you for sharing your memories with us! :goodvibes

How can you not love men who wear lederhosen and kilts?:rotfl2:

You truly have an awesome family! Kilts, lol--I love it! It's funny how Disney holds so many clear memories for us.

Poignant. Very, Poignant.

Agree with Cherie... now I know where you got that nice one you made Jordy into a pin-up with. :lmao: (that was you, right? Now I'm not so sure it was you... I went back to look and can't find it at all!)

Clearly, it is not MacLoed, which is mine, and butt ugly! I wish I could win the binder layout- drat! Give us another $1,000,000 question.

The term "computer bug" comes from an incident when an insect got into an early computer and shorted it out. .....imagine the terms we'd have if they had let kids around computers in those early days.
