One word! Margins!

Just sounds like you really have a lot on your plate. Are you sure you're taking care of Cythnia?? I don't mean it to sound like you should be selfish, but you really are dishing out a lot for others. Don't let guilt get in the way of prioritizing and saying "no" if you need to.

Sermon over. :)

I really hope that the soccer can be worked out so that a family vacation can happen; those are important too! Ok, NOW my sermon is over. Really, didn't mean to be preachy!

I'd say stay with what you've got- I know Sandie would really love it, and SAB? The pictures look fabulous! How can you go wrong with that?

I am praying for your DFIL, and for peace and strength for all of you.

As for your planning - Yikes!:scared1: It is so hard be "the one" in charge of planning for everyone and try to figure it all out. No matter what you choose, someone will second guess you.

You sound like those of us on the Control Freaks and Worry Wart thread - come on over if you want to worry an control with us! :rotfl2:

Thanks :) and :welcome:

I actually "gave up" control a long time ago in most areas. It isn't something anyone can really have (or should have) in a blended family. I am surprisingly ok with all of that. It just requires flexibility. There are very few things I can control and all I can do is my best. If it works out, great, if it doesn't, at least I know I tried. That is not to say there aren't moments of great frustration but for the most part I can roll with things. These recent changes are just part of the process and almost funny.

Second guessing, yes, that's a given and again I'll roll with it. :) I used to worry a LOT more than I do. Now I worry but at a much healthier distance.
I could absolutely choose to do none of this. I want to do it to at least make the effort to try and schedule something and I do know it is appreciated even if Jeff thinks I'm nuts at times. I think for me, having a trip to plan is my way of having something that is mine, to control though. I can't control soccer or school schedules or how their mom will react. I can plan a trip.

And that is something for me.

Oh I joke about the guilt with my sister. She never asks for ANYTHING and it's the least I can do and isn't a big deal. It would be a different story if she was asking all the time, but she really doesn't. It's just crummy timing. I do know how to say no. I am not always great at it but I do know how. This time of year is crazy but 99% of it is all stuff I chose to do, willingly.

I am one of those people who does better, a lot better, with a lot on their plate. I am not good with too much free time.

As to soccer well...it's just not that simple. I wish it were, but it's not. As a general rule, no one misses a tournament. Families schedule vacations around them and if there is a conflict, either they reschedule, cancel or don't take the soccer player with them. Every once in a while, if it is a more "minor" tournament, someone will miss something for a previously planned vacation that was booked before the schedule was out but as the girls get older that is less and less so.

I realize that sounds insane and unless you are in that scenario, really hard to understand. I can see both sides. Realistically over the summer there will probably be 4 tournaments which, in concept should be easy to schedule around. When you choose to play at this level, you make that choice. The problem is that every year you retry out for your team in the spring and don't get the summer schedule until about a month before it even starts. For some trips, planning around that works. For things like this, it won't. We tried it last year, just waiting until the schedule came out and planning around it, thinking that since all we wanted to do was camp, it would be fine.

We couldn't find a single week that worked.

There was no family trip.

Part of the effort behind all of this is a determination not to have that happen again. The reality is we like to travel, we get cranky when we don't and we get cranky when we don't have a solid week "off". We had several short (long weekend) type trips this year.

They were a ton of fun. They were busy. They were not truly relaxing. Not long enough to actually feel like you were on vacation, just a nice day away or a nice weekend. We need that. Jeff especially lol! August feels REALLY far away but at least is something we can look forward to.

Kendall's schedule is further complicated by something called ODP. Which is a good thing, for her. It really is. That's in July. FD isn't in July so to me it's kind of irrelevant lol. Bottom line is she works hard, she wants this and has earned it and to the best of our ability we support it. HS tryouts are a big deal as she will want to make JV, not the freshman team and we get that, it's not even a question. She may just have to make a choice. It is not helped by her mom who will definitely push soccer over time with us. Soccer is her life. Were it just us, if there is a conflict, I think soccer would win and Jeff knows that and it devastates him.

However, add in Grandma and it becomes a different story in terms of how much his ex will push her agenda or not. So...it is what it is. We are narrowed down to a 7 day window for Disney and I've tacked Nick on at the front. It is as good a shot at tournament free weekends as we can guesstmate with what we know. Regardless of any tournament she "could" make it during the week and miss practices. She will be 14. She should be able to fly on her own if she needs to. Will she? Will her mother allow that? That's an entirely different question. I can't control that and so I refuse to worry about it. It will be what it will be.

Assuming all things stay the same we will just book tickets in April or so and try to make sure hers is refundable or just recognize that we may be eating a change fee. That's about all we can do! That and brainwash both kids between now and then as to how wonderful the trip will be :rotfl:

I do plenty for me, I promise. I went to a "bag and bling" party on Saturday, had some wine and bought 2 cute knock off purses that I don't really need. One for fall and one that will be a great plane carry on lol! Actually I'm going to use it for my girls weekend. I only let myself look at the clearance section and kept in my budget for it but...I don't really need them. I do like them! I also hit the gym. I had a long lunch with my sisters on friday after wedding dress shopping.

And I ordered a potential park bag. It may arrive today.

Plenty selfish :)

Oh and on that selfish note?

We are sticking with YC. I felt we should at least re-evaluate since the options were open but the bottom line is it feels right. when it is time to book tickets, if we know that we are only 8 (no Doug for work or no Kendall) we might try to switch to a BCV 2 bedroom but that's the only change I'd foresee us making and that would be a long shot.

I've always wanted to stay at an Epcot resort. When Sandie and I first started talking about this last April, we were looking at BC. SAB and August.

It's meant to be.

Oh wow...lot going on in your life...

(I've been off the boards for a couple of days...whole family... but everyone on the upmend...:thumbsup2)

So sorry to hear about your Fil...sending good wishes and prayers his way...

Sorry that you're having such a hard time picking out a "good week"...blast it all with all the kid's activities-can't live without them or with them...:confused3

I love that Evan is going for the trombone...why go for the easy instrument...?:lmao: DD is a cellist-and at this point she and her cello are close in size...DH hasn't picked yet...I'm hoping for a year of piano and then maybe the clarinet or trumpet...but I doubt I'll get off easily if I know my son...:confused3

I hope your week rolls out well...:flower3:

I saw that, sounds like you guys have been down for days. ICK! No fun.

I love the cello...but am glad he went with a horn. We still start Eric on piano after Christmas. Heaven only knows what he will pick for an instrument, hopefully not the trombone, he'd fall over!

Today when Evan left for the bus he informed me he'd be leaving earlier on band days as he can't run and carry the case.:rotfl:

Sorry about your FIL..I hope it all works out in the end. I'll be prayin

I'm glad u decided to stick with the Yacht Club. We enjoyed our stay there in 2001. Unless you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Magic Kingdom, the proximity of the Epcot resorts to both DHS and Epcot can't be beat. SAB is just icing on the cake.

I went to a “bag” party this weekend. Got a couple of very cute fake bags. One which will be perfect for a plane carry on and one that is a great small fall bag. Which started me thinking about…

Park bags.

Last year I had a Target hobo bag that I used which worked as I needed to carry jackets for the evenings. I don’t have that need this trip. My preference is cargo capri’s and stick everything in my pockets and skip a bag entirely. However, in the heat I am guessing it will be more shorts and sundresses and less capri’s…meaning less pockets. So I need a small bag.

And the leather one I used on the last trip after I'd stuffed the hobo bag in a locker, will be too hot and heavy . Plus it is the bag that does not close well if over stuffed, it's a very slim bag with a magnet closure. It's just "that much" too small for my needs. Not quite right. For those of you who read my TR is is the bag that my camera and phone flew out of on ToT.

They went…

UP

And

Down

And up

And down

So I need a new bag. More accurately I want a new bag. I don’t have a light bag that is the right size, I have plenty but they are leather. Hot sticky august and hot sticky leather. UGH!

I don’t want an across the body or messenger bag, I don’t need it to be that big as Jeff will have the daypack and sunscreen, first aid and water bottles can go in there. I’d been thinking about Timbuktu but the reality is….we have the daypack. I just don’t need something that big or that pricey, for the amount of use I’d get out of it. And do have a beat up black microfiber Kate Spade satchel that would serve that purpose if I need it, or the new faux Louis Vuitton Monogramouflage Denim carry on. But it's pretty huge.

I want something summery but not be tied to a pattern that won’t match with everything. I like the Vera’s in idea but in actuality, won’t use them. I tried a Kavu Keeper already and it’s been used twice

And so I was bad.

Really bad.

It was on sale.

There were only 3 left.

I’ve always liked the look of these bags and they seem super durable. Not to mention cute. Super cute.

I was almost seduced by a Disney Couture Loop Bambi bag but held firm. That would have been cheaper. I wasn’t convinced I’d like the shape on me or that the size was right. This looks right but we will see. All I need to hold is a cell phone, sunglasses case, regular glasses case, card holder, lipstick, pen. I can get by with one glasses case if I need to.

It arrived yesterday.

Pro’s: It is the PERFECT size and is nice and secure, with a full zip closure, nothing will fly out of it. It is adorable. Cuter than the pictures. Extremely durable, I think it would survive just about anything. fairly stain resistant too I'd imagine.

Con’s. It is STIFF! And very boxy. It’s also mildly heavy for its size, seatbelt material isn’t light apparently. While it does have a 3 part divided inner pocket, it doesn't have a zipper one which surprised me a little bit. It may be a little short on pockets. The stiffness is nice in the sense of no ugly bulging but I am not sure if it would bother me to carry around, knowing I’ll be in sleeveless tops all the time. Then again, I don't know if it will soften up or not.

Hmmn. Does it stay or does it go?

Of course there is an ebay auction ending soon that I have my eye on…..

:surfweb:

I thought I’d been hit by the DIS lost wallet curse yesterday. I went to the post office to mail something to FIL and to a certain DIS’er and then trotted off to paperzone for placecard supplies. Went to pay and…no wallet! :scared1:

Scoured the area, scoured the car.

No wallet!

Called the post office.

No wallet!

Scoured the post office parking lot, the interior, etc.

No wallet!

Canceled my debit and credit card and ordered a new license. Sigh.

I was mostly upset because my ID was in there, I now have no cards for my girls weekend, most notably my debit card (DH and I have separate accounts) and I lost the card case Sandie gave me several years ago, which I love. I use it as my entire wallet (which is why I can, at times, with proper pockets, skip a park bag!). I  this little case. One of those things I'd have never picked out for myself and I love it. She is the best gift giver that way!

qig80097.jpg

Note how it matches the potential park bag I ordered? That was not a coincidence.

Nor is the fact that it matches the carry on I bought at the purse party.

At 6:40 I got a call from PaperZone, they’d found it on the floor in one of the aisles! So back I went and am happily reunited with my card case and my ID. Of course I still am out my cards for 10 days but in the grand scheme of things it ended relatively well and I escape the DIS lost wallet curse.

For now.

Next...it's like being on vacation in my mind....

I'm so glad they found your wallet for you...:goodvibes...(Is PaperZone like Paper Source?) I have "lost" my wallet more times than I will admit to...;)

As for the bag...hmmm...the bag is absolutely darling...I say keep it...then again I have a weakness for handbags...and usually base on what I think is cute and if it's practical and useful-that's an added bonus...:woohoo: (when Emily came home from Prek many a moons ago and had made me a "Kate Spade handbag out of paper-complete with inside accessories-including a "lipstick" and "cellphone" it was really sweet (I still have it with my cards and things :goodvibes) but also embarassing...I had one KS (and I still have it)-I had gotten it for an anniversary gift and goodness knows what the teacher thought...what with my 5 year old daughter crafting handbags out of paper...anyway what I getting at is some people have shoes...I have a thing for handbags...

and that is way cute...if you don't need to carry a ton of stuff around...I say keep it...:thumbsup2...also those colors and MM are American classics-so it will always be usable...

Any more handbag enabling needed...I'm your girl...:lmao:

I'm glad u found your wallet even though you had already cancelled the CCs.

I have NO advice on bags...sorry.;)

Holy updates Batman! You have a new TR and I missed it? DAWG! I gotta fix that! I don't have time to properly savor the experience now, but I'm booking you for tomorrow. Can't wait to start reading!

Ok that is the cutest thing that she made you a KS bag from paper. I am sure the teacher thought she was adorable. I'm with you on the bags although I've been very good lately (haven't bough a thing since the misdirected kavu keeper and bagallini attempts) and was proud of myself
that I only looked at the clearance section at the knock off party. :rotfl:

Thankfully DH has a shoe fetish.

I  the look and size of the bag. The strap is awfully stiff and that's my only real concern. Well that and if I'd actually ever use it outside of WDW!

PaperZone is very much like paper source. I was trying to get all the darn supplies for the placecards and winetags that I needed to have finished tonight!

I'm glad u found your wallet even though you had already cancelled the CCs.

I have NO advice on bags...sorry.;)

Thank you, so am I! It's funny, I've had credit card fraud 3 different times, debit card fraud once, debit card theft twice and this was far more upsetting for some reason.

No worries...sorry for the girly stuff!

No worries, you've had a LOT going on! But I'm very happy you are here :)

cool...I'm booked...love it!

I think you've taken mine and a few others share of Credit Card issues.:scared1:

Glad you found it though.

No worries about the bag talk. I'm used to the bag talk after 2 years on the PTR/TR forums...:)

Hi Cynthia!

It's my morning check-in time! :cool1:

The bag IS adorable!! Really, I do love it. (Sorry Jordy, this just seems to go on and on and on...)

Anyway, I too succombed to DIS bag envy, and was heavy-handedly arm- twisted into buying one (you know who you are). I'm like you- I'd really rather go without totally, but thought I'd better have one just in case, I change my mind. I don't love mine either, but I guess in this world you take the good with the bad.

I"m so happy you found you purse! Paper Zone is like heaven to me! I'd gladly lose a purse in there, if I knew I'd find it again. I could spend hours in there, ogling over the fun stuff they have!

OMG I'm sooo glad your wallet has been found! I would have freaked out!!

I lost my debit card a little less then a year ago. Of course, it was right before a weekend away and I had ordered tickets for an event we were attending over that weekend on that card and needed to pick the ticket up at will call! Crap! Luckily the people at the event were very accomodating and we had no problems. I cancelled the card and it was found within a few hours!

I LOVE the new bag!!! LOVE it!! Of course, much like Patricia, I'm probably not the person to talk to about bags!! I have a closet BUSTING with all sorts of bags!

So glad that your wallet was found!!! Too bad that you had to cancel all your credit cards though.:sad2:

:rotfl: I bet you are!

Crazy huh, the amount of fraud. Almost all of it on my debit card as I rarely use anything else. I've joked that the only thing left is real identity theft (with my id) and I think that's what freaked me out. I think the scariest one was when someone actually created a duplicate of my card as that's a little harder to prove fraud on, then when they hack in online or you know you lost it. And when it's your debit...well there just isn't the kind of buffer in MY account for people to steal that kind of money and then I have to wait days and days for the bank to replace it. Stressful. The theft ones just made me mad. A valet at a very high end restaurant and a cashier at an airport bookstore.

I couldn't believe that the port authority wouldn't do anything about the airport employee, you could narrow it down to 2 potential people that could have stolen it and easily caught them by where they used it...and they spent a LOT in a very short amount time, but they didn't even care!

Thanks Liesa!

Good morning back at you!

Yes, PaperZone is a dangerous place. I have to go back there today to return a couple of things, apparently the found karma continued and I found my long missing 1/4" hole punch that I'd just replaced! And they changed the cartridge size on the tombow stuff which annoys me so I'm sticking with glue and double stick tape and raised foam dots, I just don't use it enough to get a whole new size of cartridge.

I digress.

I didn't lose my whole purse, which I was actually carrying for once, just my card case/wallet. It was on the floor so either it was in my pocket after the post office and fell out or I had the darn purse unzipped and it fell out when I leaned down to grab some single sheets of paper..or sparklies...or ribbon.

OMG I'm sooo glad your wallet has been found! I would have freaked out!!

I was a VERY cranky lady! It completely messed up my day, not to mention dinner as Costco was the next stop. I was already cranky so it didn't help. We were out of coffee, so I'd had not a drop which is never a good thing and then I couldn't even go buy any!

Cynthia and no coffee....Not a pretty sight. Mine has been hacked into right before vacation before, it's a nightmare. I just have to go get cash for the weekend which is a pain since my bank is not close but....oh well and I'm glad I canceled everything for peace of mind, better to be safe than sorry. Hmmn. I am glad you said that though as I ordered tickets for an event sat night and unless they come today I have to email ticketmaster and they will have replacements at will call. I better see what card I used and make sure I have it with me!

I hear you on the bags. When I was working downtown I often had a stash of 2 or 3 in the car to switch for the day to match my outfit! :lmao:

I confess on the last trip I packed a total of 4 bags. And I used all 4 but could have skipped one of them. I am sure it will be a similar story on this trip. I don't think I've ever taken less than 2 on a trip. It's ridiculous but, c'mon, you need a different bag for different things!

  1. All day at the park not going back to the resort? one kind of bag
  2. Back to the resort, change for dinner and not hitting a park after? a different bag entirely!
  3. Strolling around the resort, hanging poolside? One needs a bag for that!
  4. Dressed up versus down? And it goes on and on and on.
LOL!

So right now I think I'm at 4 already, we will see how the list changes, that of course will depend on the wardrobe I pack! Although, I'm actually hoping to make some tops for this trip to save some $$ and get what I actually want. We will see if I really do that or not.

New Mickey bag (general daily park bag and out to dinner)
New Tink Loop tote that I just won on ebay (pool/dtd)
New faux LV carryall for the plane (and would work to pack lunches in for Universal and then get a locker)
And maybe the Kavu Keeper for the Nick/Universal days.

So glad that your wallet was found!!! Too bad that you had to cancel all your credit cards though.:sad2:

Oh and I love the bag!!! I say keep it....then again I love hand bags so I'd keep it just because it was so adorable.:goodvibes (sorry, when it comes to handbags it's hard for me to be practical especially when they are so darn cute!!;))

Thanks! I love the bag too, just concerned about the strap and whether it will bug me walking around all day. I might try to do some online research about the brand to see if it will soften up, it is definitely a quality product.

Looks like I have a bunch of enablers here!

Of course I did win the ebay auction I was looking at...I'm worried that one is too big (it's a tote) but the price couldn't be beat on it! It looks like a perfect DTD and pool bag though!

:goodvibes

Sorry Jordy! (and GreatBiscuit and Glenbo!)

:)

Tote from ebay ($9.99!)

I will NOT be wearing that outfit! Well those pants...leggings...whatever! lol.
I  the colors on this one.

I think this will lay super flat so will just get packed. I could use it as a carry on but it doesn't zip on the top and I think the other will be better for lugging through the airport. I used my luggage carry on which is quite big last time and am going to try and avoid that and downsize. I won't be packing all the layers I had last time!

I do think it highly unfair that really only Tink and Alice, and to a lesser degree, Snow White get the funky couture treatment. On the boys side it's Mickey and Bambi.

Poor Belle. I'd really rather support her. Belle only exists on very princessy stuff. UGH.

And the fake Marc Jacobs/LV bag. The one I got is black though. Which makes it really fake as I think it really only came in this green color. I'll get a lot of use out of this, starting tomorrow for my girls trip! It's a good size.

51NRSyj8JHL_SL500_AA280_.jpg

Last but not least...the Kavu Keeper. I got this for our feb trip and never used it but of course had taken the tags off to test drive it so never returned it. I did finally use this on a womens retreat about a month ago and it was perfect for that. I don't like it crossbody but it was ok as a shoulder bag and isn't as huge as it looks. I like the pocket layout on this one a lot, 2 outside and one zip on the inner, I just don't care for the straps.

Not sure about the colors for a summer trip though.

So...nothing really goes with anything else!
But does it matter?

You deserve a new label- "The Bag Meister". :lmao:

I think if I had to choose a fav. it'd be the bottom one. I like the colors, and I like that it's thin. Who wants to carry a bulky hulk along??

Great picks- now to see which one gets used when??:confused3

I'm sorry you've had so much stress lately. You're really going to deserve that vacation!

I agree with All7Ofus. The last one has a shoulder strap and it's light. If you like to travel light, I think you'll get frustrated carrying a tote or clunky purse. Straps fall off your shoulders, and bags need to be small enough to tuck into the pockets on rides. I have carried the Bagallini Messenger - the smaller one - it's lightweight and a "cross body" so I can switch shoulders, or turn it to my back sometimes for comfort, and I bought Chocolate, so DH will carry it for me half the time! :goodvibes

You deserve a new label- "The Bag Meister". :lmao:

I think if I had to choose a fav. it'd be the bottom one. I like the colors, and I like that it's thin. Who wants to carry a bulky hulk along??

Great picks- now to see which one gets used when??:confused3

Only problem is I've had the bag for a while and really don't like it that much. It is too thin. Fine if it is just a wallet and keys, not so much once you add a camera and glasses. Especially the glasses. And while the straps are light, they are also thin...and fall off the shoulder.

I got it for the last Disney trip and didn't use it once. Tried it out before the trip and it just wasn't a good daily use layout for me due to the thinness. I did use it at the retreat but I didn't need a glasses case in it so it worked ok for that. Other than that it's just hanging there lol! But it's an option.

The small leather bag I did use for the bulk of the last trip was also too thin...hence the Mickey bag.

I need something "just right"!

I like different size bags for different things so will definitely be taking more than one option.

I'm sorry you've had so much stress lately. You're really going to deserve that vacation!

I agree with All7Ofus. The last one has a shoulder strap and it's light. If you like to travel light, I think you'll get frustrated carrying a tote or clunky purse. Too bad it's only a day trip and less than 24 hours at that! August is VERY far away! Oh well, fun to look forward to!

I tried the bagallini and didn't like it at all. I have one I need to list on ebay, test drove it and really didn't like it at all. I love the idea of crossbody but hate it on me! If I'm going light, it all goes in my pockets to start. So I'll be shopping for new cargo shorts lol. I've about beat my favorite cargo pocket capri's to death, they really need to be retired.

Both of the larger bags would never go to the parks. The mickey bag is small enough for the ride pockets but large enough for the glasses case which is actually a pretty big deal for me. Also large enough to hold a pin purchase or small item picked up here and there throughout the day.

See my comments above on the Kavu Keeper. It is so thin that it gets all bulky weird very quickly and doesn't hold quite enough. Those straps fall very easily and it was really annoying.

Mickey is only one strap and very sturdy so I don't see it slipping at all but we will see if I even keep it. I actually like totes because the straps are short enough that they don't slip, as long as you don't overload them.
