Life’s too short...to never sleep in a treehouse! 8/27 TR is up! Link in siggie

The BFP_YC_v0.5

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, I did! Of course the state of my house bears testament to that but by Friday I should have it back in order.

:rotfl:

yeah, right. I'm going to keep telling myself that.

We have the crud going around our house, as it seems to be everywhere right now, but thankfully have been able to keep it at the cold/sore throat and dry cough stage. Annoying but not debilitating (or keeping anyone home from school, yay!). I survived all the prep for the bridal shower and delivered all my goodies to my sister which supposedly were a big hit, survived my baking frenzy for my girls trip and then the oh-too-short girls weekend. I am so incredibly blessed with amazing friends. As our hostess put it, it was nutrition for the soul. And it really was. The fact that we can get 14 of us together for something like this is such a gift! To then have fabulous meals, long walks, girl movies and a little spa time....heaven!

So it ended up being about 24 hours with the girls, and then seeing the English Beat with another couple on a double date Saturday night. Sunday was spent being a bit lazy and taking Eric out selling Cub Scout popcorn. He was SO cute! I really didn't want to go and deal with it and am so glad I did, it was a great experience watching him work the neighbors over. The little charmer sold to every house he went to. Not that there were that many houses (7 I think) but still, not a bad hit rate! And it was nice to actually chat with the neighbors a bit longer than usual, and see a brand new baby to boot! We are lucky to have such great ones and it exposed some of the younger boys (and parents) on the street to scouts and Eric was able to answer some good questions about it. Fun.

All of the events were just wonderful and I even managed to get in one long walk with the girls and a nice work out on sat after my return. I did however muck up one kid schedule item but, had I had it “right” we’d have probably missed it anyway due to a conflict. Black Belt Mandatory meeting for the next test versus Eric soccer game...black belt wins. So glad they went, I have a ton of stuff to get in by friday for the next test or he will have to wait until June.

Still, I felt bad for Jeff, who had the unfun job of taking Eric to a game…that wasn’t there. I had it down twice on the calendar and we both thought it was the later time slot. Oh well. Eric isn't exactly our soccer star and was fine with it.

Jeff and I (and the other couple we were with) did realize that we are out of practice when it comes to the whole “show” aspect. Tickets were for 8pm. Warm up band didn’t start until 9 and the Beat at 10. Which left us leaving before they were done to relieve our friends sitter.

It was actually kind of funny. The whole thing was fun, and fun music, really took us back and it is such HAPPY music it made me feel like I was on vacation in my mind. Apparently it had the same influence on Jeff who brought up some things about the trip while we were at the show.

Either that or it was the Red Stripe, not sure!

Jeff had three points.
1. He really wants his mom there for more than 6 nights. Even if it is just one more.
2. He’d really rather stay at the YC the whole time. I think Sandie got to him on the neon!
3. He’d rather stay less nights and be at the YC since he is not going to do his flying stuff after all.
Sadly, poor Jeff has had a crummy week flight wise. He was hoping to get his seaplane certification last weekend and he’s had plane problems, cancellations, weather issues etc and has only done maybe half of the certification. Which has majorly bummed him out. Ideally you do it 5 days in a row to get the momentum going. Spreading it out over 2-3 weeks just isn’t the same.

And so….

We are entering the “refinement” stage of our BFP. Locked in to date windows by circumstances beyond our control (namely the anticipated start date of FD and Kendall’s HS soccer tryout) we need to work within those dates.

Which, sadly, really doesn’t allow for staying at the YC the whole time as we need to arrive before the date we think FD will start. We’ve decided to do the following.

1. Add one night at the YC for both rooms, bringing us to 7 which lets Sandie and Paul be there with us for a full 7 nights. If we time the flights right it’s really 9 days! They don’t want more than a week or any dates that aren’t FD and so even if FD started earlier we’d need to stay elsewhere as we won’t fit in one YC room and we can’t afford 2 without them sharing that cost. All I know is there better be FD or we are in TROUBLE! I hope they release it as early to Disney Visa as they did last year my concern is that it’s already so booked, maybe they don’t offer it? I dunno. At the rate they are extending promotions I feel relatively safe but it is a wee bit of a stress factor.

2. Cut one night out at the start so the total trip is 9 nights instead of 10. With trying to do both Universal Parks as well, I just can’t see fitting everything in for less nights. And I’m still hooked on the idea of a couple of days on our own with just the 6 of us.

3. Let K&T pick where we stay those first 2 nights! We are going to give them a selection of places to pick from, including Nick, this weekend. We are still not telling the E’s and will decide what to do about that once we finalize where we are staying.

So the BFP_YC_v0.5 is

8/12 red eye out
8/13-14 ??? (currently holding onto the room at Nick)
8/15-8/22 Yacht Club.

We won't be a v0.5 for long :rotfl:

Here is the thing. Issues with neon and Nick Character themed rooms notwithstanding, without the FD promo, it is significantly cheaper. And has that pool. Check it out.

nick-hotel-amenities-water-park-top.jpg

I think we could handle 2 nights there just to get access to that pool and I actually think it would be kind of a bummer not to but I’m turning over control on this one to the teens and am ok with it. My biggest fear is that staying elsewhere will push the water park request and I don’t think we have enough days for that.

However, my non-disney freak husband (as he so lovingly calls me) really likes the idea of staying at Disney the whole time and so we are going to present K&T with a list of properties that might work. My TA is checking on AAA rates right now as some of them look to be significantly better than the rack rates, that weekend of 8/13 seems to be the end of the summer season with some rooms at the summer rate, some at the value. Right now the options on the table (that sleep 6) are:

  • 2 rooms at Pop.
  • ASM Family Suite
  • 2 rooms at any of the Moderates
  • FW Cabin
  • 2 rooms at AKL or WL if the AAA rates are really correct.
  • Deluxe club level room at WL
  • Treehouse/OKW/SSR villas, 2 or 3 bedroom.
The best $$ option in my opinion for 2 nights, a Jr suite at CSR, is already gone.

I hope to narrow down the list before Friday so they have less to decide in between. Personally I’d just as soon skip the values entirely as if we go that route I do think we are better off at Nick. Cost wise we should probably scrap the treehouse if it is just 6 of us and no FD but I can tell Jeff wants it on there. And…if we do a treehouse Jeff and I get our own room for a couple of nights but wow, it’s a pricey way to get privacy! Still, might be worth it since it will be followed by 7 nights of togetherness.

And of course....I wanna sleep in a treehouse!

The cabins, I loved but BTDT. And…double beds. My push is if we do 2 rooms it’s a girls room and a boys room! My personal preferences (and the short list I’d like to show them) are

Nick

Pro: Pool. Slime. Boys are obsessed with the idea of going there.

Con: I’m bunking with K on a sofabed double. Their rates keep going up so I’m glad I have it reserved, although I wonder if our rate will change if we cut out the 2 nights currently on it. It is still the least expensive unless we upgrade to the 3 bedroom and then that cost is almost equal to 2 rooms at a mod. The rooms are pretty obnoxious for those over 11!

2 rooms at a Mod

Pro: Would let us try a new resort.

Con: Cost versus Nick. Dining. We like the sit down offerings at the deluxes and aren’t really food court people so the dining options at these are not a draw. For me anyway.

2 rooms at AKL.

Pro: Everything. I’d love this for 2 nights. If the AAA rates are right, it’s not much more than the posted rack rate on the Mods so seems by far the best value. This really isn't on the boys list at all, it will be interesting to see with K&T think.

Con: Cost versus Nick. We could do this at WL as well but for that I think I prefer the club level option.

WL Club level room:

Pro: club level benefits, location, we love WL. Con: costs more than doing 2 rooms, not much less than the treehouse. I’d have to bunk with Kendall but it’d be a queen.

Treehouse

Pro: My own room for 2 nights!

Treehouse! Con: Cost. We could stay 5-6 nights at Nick for this expense, ouch! AAA doesn’t seem to give any deals on the villa properties , which makes sense.

Financially there is a pretty huge spread on these rooms although we do figure we are potentially saving 2 days of car rental if we are at Disney. The main advantage I see if we are at Disney the whole time is that we could do the Universal and IOA park visits sprinkled throughout the trip as opposed to all at once and that would be nice. It is going to be fun to see what they like versus what we think they will like and how much a factor the pool really is.

There is of course also the Sheraton Vistana...which seems pretty darn reasonable for what we'd get. But it's not Nick or Disney so....

Huh.

Of course we may get dinged for TL/BB no matter what so maybe I'm making too much of it. I know Evan REALLY wants to go to at least one of them on the next trip. Then the question becomes 1 day water park ticket or adding the water park and more to the main tickets? Ugh. If we don't stay at Nick I will take the boys by there at least to check it out, they are dying to just see it if they can.

I’m thinking of giving them the list, letting them poke around online and then having each rank their top 3 in order. However…this is 8 options already, conceivably there could be zero overlap no matter what they pick and then what do I do?

Hmmn.

If K had her way we’d stay at the GF. T loved WL. GF is NOT an option and for the cost of WL I'd go Treehouse. The boys would pick Nick and then Eric would want the Contemporary and Evan is all about CSR or CBR. So they will be happy with whatever the big kids pick and they'll have their chance to have input on a different trip. The LOVE the idea of the treehouse (of course!).

I’m going to walk them both through the Yacht Club just so they can see where we will be so they can compare and contrast.

In other news, I do have a little update on Jeff’s dad Ron.

According to his stepmom Mary, his symptoms, i.e, cough and sore throat are better. He still has congestion, but that is due to the mass/tumor pressing on the bronchial tube. His energy level is better. They went to the Camaro club mtg Friday night and church today. Overall, he is much better than he was a couple of weeks ago. They see the doctor Friday, 3pm. Will get the results of the fluid he took out of the lung during the bronchoscopy (we thought it was a biopsy). Apparently he is keeping a great attitude which I'm grateful for!

Sandie may be popping out for a visit between now and Thanksgiving and I’m sure there will be a LOT of trip chatter then with everyone if she does! She’s checking airfare right now.

Next....express line baby!

Gosh, it really could be ANYTHING, from TB to pneumonia! Don't worry until you need to. More than likely it's nothing- at least that's what I"m praying for!

Toast was ok. I laid awake all night the day before going over and over and over it in my head. But like always, as soon as the mike was passed to me, I biffed it. Too typical! :scared1:

Ah well, I had a second chance at the next day party, and did a little better- fewer people= less stress. Hopefully later today, I'll post some pictures and video clips from the shindig later on my blog. It was very traditional and interesting!

Cool, I'll be popping over to the blog! I bet you didn't biff it, just maybe not what you wanted it to be. Glad the 2nd day went better!

Okay. My. Head. Is. Spinning.

You have a TON of variables/options.

I would never advocate staying offsite unless it was purely a financial situation or you had a timeshare offsite. So the Nick would be out for sure.

I would probably opt 4 Port Orleans Riverside/2 rms. As it has the ferry to DTD so you could get a decent sit down meal. I really like Portobello.

AKL wouldn't be a bad thing either.....

Too many variables! lol. All for 2 nights. Nick is only an option because, well, the water park is very cool and the boys are very into the idea, they are all about the slime, the slime-o-meter, some kind of sponge bob and patrick bean bag chair, they even know what the themed rooms are like. Scary. Clearly they watch that channel too much.

But it is cheaper. It did seem weird to pay Disney prices and spend the day at a Universal Park but...whatever. It's going to happen for at least 1 day anyway. If the teens hate it, it's out and I'm glad we are letting them pick as it avoids that whole situation.

I think I'm just going to show them 2 of the mods, POR (for the boat and the trundle) and CSR (for the queen beds). Which means 7 to choose from but really 6 as I don't expect either of them to choose the Fort with the other options although you never know! I don't expect them to pick AKL either. But I could be way off base.

I was planning on us eating at DTD on night one anyway so POR would be a good fit and financially more responsible than the treehouse. I want to try Paradiso 37 though.

I did get the AAA rates and AKL and THV are better...but still very pricey.

We've got a range now of $177 a night to $468. Yikes!

Holy moly, you've got a lot of options!

I don't even know what to suggest. I think you need to narrow it down for the kids a bit though. It's a lot to choose between. What if you knocked off 2 more of the options and then let the kids pick? I don't know. You are going to have a fabulous time no matter where you stay!

Good luck with the latest in Accommodation Roulette, not to be confused in anyway, to Airfare Roulette.;)

As it turns out, I was doulbe booked last week. Sorry for the delay. If just finished your AWESOME cast bios. I feel like I've really gotten to know you guys over the past few postings. I can't wait to finish catching up and see what sorts of things you have planned for your trip.

I would say go for the moderate, and go for the resort that has kid-centric stuff to do, which I gather is POR .... If not the Nick hotel..... AKL is a beautiful place, though... I bet the kids would like the pool there! It is spectacular, and the animal viewing? There are activities at the deluxes that you can't get at the mods, if they are into things like that....
We'll patiently wait for the dust to settle. I am sure it will be great regardless!

Right now we are down to 5 options including Nick and the fort (which they know). CSR is GONE! I cannot justify spending $200 more on a ASM family suite than the cabin, the Fort will win every time.

I kind of wanted to give them 2 mods to look at but we are down to

Nick
FW Cabin
POR - 2 rooms
AKL - 2 rooms
Treehouse

They've been to AKL for dinner and we've stayed in the cabins so it's really only 3 "new" things to look at. Was hoping for 4. I like POR but don't know that it is as kid friendly as adult friendly.

CBR may make it back on the list but I know Taylor would be less than thrilled with Nemo bedding! Right now none of what I think would be their favorites are pricing out to be doable anyway. Double checking WL pricing as everyone loves WL.

Good luck with the latest in Accommodation Roulette, not to be confused in anyway, to Airfare Roulette.;)

I saw you posted, I'm scared to see what is happening with Airfare Roulette!

Aw, thanks!

No worries, I'm not going anywhere! take your time, I'm just happy to have you along for the ride!

I'm truly surprised how little price difference there is with the AAA rates between the mod and the deluxe, at least for a couple of deluxes, the rest are WAY out of the ballpark. The only true "deals" are Nick and the Fort. And much as I love the Fort...it is squished. AKL is only $55 more a night than POR and THV (or SSR/OKW) only $8 more than that. Which makes POR feel pricey to me. :confused3

Since the kids are for Nick...I guess I'm okay with you staying there...;)

You're right about POR being more for adults perhaps....

AKL may be a good choice........

See, now you have me going back and forth.....:)

Yep. Back and forth. I keep leaning towards AKL too. I really think Taylor would be into it. Not sure the teens will get how good it could be via what's online and pictures though.

Me? I wanna sleep in a treehouse. Jeff too methinks.

Well the E's are all over it (Nick). I think Kendall too. Taylor (and Jeff) I'm positive...not so much.

:rotfl:

I'll need to dig up the picture of Kendall as Danny Phantom. It was a riot! I made her costume and getting her hair to do that...oh my!

Of course E1 likes the idea of POR because he knows someone who stayed there, a treehouse because it is a treehouse...the E's will be easily pleased. They'd be good with the cabin! Or 2 rooms at Pop. It doesn't take much. As long as they get to go on Splash and hit the MSB they are good.

They crack me up, they've been talking DAILY about Disney and Nick and they don't know anything is officially planned.

I may show K&T Pop depending on how the "viewing" goes but I have a feeling Tay will think he is too cool for it lol. I can't get over the lack of a in room coffee pot...no can do nescafe....

It's the teens Jeff worries about and so this...is the carrot.

The THV look amazing! It would fit all of you as well. Is that out as an option for sure? I know it's pricey........

It seems to me that you are a diplomat!!

You are trying to take in everyone's needs, and wants - because of that, you are trying to fit the Nick Hotel in - I have to agree - for the boys - but they may surprise you!! As you present the options, make sure the boys agree with you on those 2 nights - if they are so so about it - then put forth the "list" of choices for those 2 nights!!

We did one 9 night at Disney where we Resort Hopped - I so wanted to stay at WL, dh wanted to stay at Boardwalk - then the dern airfare went down if we left a day early - and Pop was only $69 for one night!! :rotfl2: 1 week 3 resorts - never again!! :rotfl2:

I have no idea! But wish you luck!! :wizard::wizard:

It is thanks to the AAA rates! It's only $8 more than 2 rooms at AKL. (or 63 more a night than POR, not that I'm counting pennies lol). Plus there is the kitchen...and the deck...and and and :)

Granted, it is WAY more expensive than Nick or FW Cabin .

My original BFP was for THV for all 9 of us but they were GONE for our dates and it's not a very Sandie place.

Without some kind of discount it's a bit much for the 6 of us but the AAA rates are making it mildly more palatable and it's available!

It would be killer if K&T go for it, make everyone happy. And it does have the boat to DTD which T will like and I plan to eat there night 1.

No cool pool, no super cool activities except...it's a treehouse! It's a perfect 2 night "just the 6 of us" getaway.

It is a very "us" kind of place. Really, an upgraded FW cabin and we loved the cabin, it was just too small (sleeping wise) for our gang.

I think I'm scared to hope for it though as I was SO set on it for the trip and it bombed! It could be gone by the time the kids can look at it though. Going to try to pin them down Friday night, it will be the first chance to get both of them.

Part of me wants to NOT show WL as an option if it can match the AKL rates as it would be two rooms and THV is such a better layout for us. All the kids were much seduced by the day we spent at WL (the pool at the Fort was closed for the remodel so we had use of WL). I love WL, don't get me wrong but it's like being HOME! We have that here!

Sigh.

On a positive note...after this weekend...it will be settled (and booked), all will be on board, their mom will get informed and the ADR and touring plans shall commence! The only question, what to tell the E's? I'd love to have some kind of surprise if I can pull it off and I think K&T will be very in to facilitating that.

I'll be waiting to see what the final decision is! THV....that'll be what I'll be hoping for!

Cynthia! I'm going to have to say, after all I've read, that you should stick with THV and Nick as well. But, I'm also gonna say that AKL would be a very close second in my book! The kids will get a little of what they want, the adults will get a little of what they want, etc... You just can't make everyone happy all the time.

Aren't we all? Diplomats?

The E's don't get a vote on the 2 nights. If they did it would be Nick. Rank, or in this case age, has it's privileges. I am truly ok with any of the options. Those I am not ok with with...are not on the list! I'm not hopping more than once though! 2 nights at somewhere and then 7 at the YC!

I'll be waiting to see what the final decision is! THV....that'll be what I'll be hoping for!

drum roll!

K gets to look Thursday as we've now apparently lost her to guest play 2 games over the weekend down in Vancouver...T will weigh in on Friday and I'll book something on Sat!

Wow, you've got a lot of decisions to make and a lot of folks to please!

I'd go for the Nick/THV combo since you can't do all your time at YC.

I mean, how can you pass up all this glorious space?? :cloud9:

Kathy

I know, isn't it lovely?

lovely space, trees, privacy....sigh.

or neon and water slides.

And then there is...savannahs!

or a river. Hmmn. As I type that I can't see the teens getting excited about POR....much as I'd love to stay there.

What will those teens pick? Will CBR be available and get back on the list? Will WL trump all if the rates are right?

Cynthia! I'm going to have to say, after all I've read, that you should stick with THV and Nick as well. But, I'm also gonna say that AKL would be a very close second in my book! The kids will get a little of what they want, the adults will get a little of what they want, etc... You just can't make everyone happy all the time.

Well it's only 2 nights we are talking about so it's either or. We have 7 at the YC locked up, it's the 2 nights before that which are up in the air.

I have no illusions of making eveyone happy all the time :)

Teen bribery is really what Jeff is after.

:rotfl:

me? I'm happy just to go and that I've somehow turned it into 9 nights instead of 7. I did like it when it was 10 though but am ok giving up a night for 1 more at the YC.

Yeah, I knew the YC was locked in, but somehow I thought we were talking about not only 2 nights. Then I'd def. say the THV! You really have your heart set on it, I think when all's said and done. I think you should do it, just to check it out, for future trips at least.

Sanaa is a FOR SURE as far as I'm concerned and I adore LL's idea on the girls lunch/dinner at Chef's so that's a done deal too!

I would really like to try Sanaa on my next trip, too. It's either Sanaa or Jiko. I think next trip will be the regular dining plan, so Sanaa is the best option in terms of TS entitlements, but I've heard great stuff about Jiko. What to do? :confused3

We are "mostly" settled but still have some moving pieces....Jeff and I were talking last night about it and he'd really prefer to just be at the YC the whole time but....with FD it's not as simple as that since we want to arrive before we think the promo will actually start and Sandie and Paul don't want as many nights as we do so we can't stay there until they get there anyway!

Oh, the Yacht club sounds sooooooo great! Can't you just book room only before the rest of your party comes? But, wait, aren't you going to Universal Studios first????? Have you considered staying in one of their hotels to get the front of the line access to the rides? You've probably thought this all out already and I am just too far behind with your PTR! So ignore my comment if I'm just too lazy to read everything!

And for me, it comes down to the pool question. That nick pool is amazing and would save us on the whole water park question, not to mention saving a lot of $$ for the pre-FD days. On the flip side, I totally get why Jeff and Sandie have no desire to sleep in those rooms. I mean really, is there a "good" choice when your room theme options are Rugrats, Danny Phantom, Farily Oddparents or Jimmy Neutron? How about no theme?

:rotfl:

The surgeon I work with stayed there recently (in July). I will have to ask him his opinion of the rooms. He and his family endured it for his 9 year old son who has been asking to go there for about 5 years. Talk about good marketing. The outside of that place just looks so ugly to me. But your boys would probably love it!
