Libby’s 2009 Trip

Day 14 – Sunday August 9th

(Not too many non-family pictures today so my choice is a little random!)

Well, here it is, our last full day. We like to spend our very final day at DHS but as tomorrow is EMH there we’ve decided to make this our final visit.

Once again I have had a broken night. I’ve woken at 4am nearly every morning this holiday. At 6am DH lie in bed talking before we both drop off again. In the end I don’t get up until 9.

We have breakfast in the food court and then get in the car to go to DHS. It’s quite late before we reach the park. There are no EMH today but there is a showing of Fantasmic and the park is already uncomfortably busy.

Our first mission was to get ToT fastpasses for DH and DS and then we wander into the Beauty and the Beast show that is about to start. I was sad that there was no pre-show as I remembered it as being every bit as god as the show itself. The show was very good but I find it quite disjointed. I always find it interesting to see if the prince really is better looking than the Beast!

We have time before the Indiana Jones show to get a drink at the Backlot Express. They used to do the most delicious Tuna subs here (well in 1998 they did). I really enjoy the theme of this restaurant – I’m an untidy person and find the clutter rather comforting! While we are drinking we hear some loud bangs that we can only imagine are coming from the current Indy show.

We get to the theatre fairly early (after not getting in on our previous visit we don’t want to take any chances today.) Again there isn’t a pre-show (I seem to remember one but I might be mistaken.) We spend our waiting time looking out for the stooge in the Hawaiian shirt. We eventually spot him only to find out later it wasn’t him but another man in an Hawaiian shirt!

The stunt show was very good. Sadly there was a problem with the plane and it was announced that it wouldn’t be used in that show.

The boys then went off for their tower of terror ride while DD and I looked around the shops. (Actually I think we bought rather more with the boys out of the way than we had intended to.) We also saw some street performers, watching from a safe distance so that we wouldn’t get drawn in.

Next we go to the Narnia attraction. We haven’t seen this film, although we do know the story from reading the book. We hoped that we wouldn’t be at a disadvantage from not having seen it. I needn’t have worried as rather than an attraction it seemed to be an abbreviated version of the film itself (so we don’t need to see it now.)

We decided to make the Great Movie Ride our last DHS ride of this holiday. I held back the tears just enough to enjoy the ride. Once again we ended up on the gangster side. This was a very strange ride as I can only imagine that the “tour guide” went for a loo break as she wasn’t in the Indiana Jones scene when we arrived. She did arrive with the smoke so all was well. (I did sob during the film scenes at the end.)

The parade was just starting as we left the park.

We’re quite hungry now and wanting a change from Disney food decide to drive over to the Outback steakhouse at Formosa Gardens Boulevard. We stayed at Windsor Palms on our last visit so the route was very familiar even if I did have to convince DH that we didn’t need to go back to the hotel for the bl***y satnav.

The meal was quite nice (if a bit bland) and our waiter isn’t very interested in us at all. He spends much more time and effort with another British family. I don’t think it was my imagination that his attention waned the minute he knew we weren’t interested in ordering any alcoholic drinks.

The meal was OK but I preferred the Outback Steakhouse in Staines.
After we’ve eaten DD asks if we can pop into the supermarket to see if the Panda is still there. We did and it was. (I still think it looks as though it’s related to Nooky Bear.)

The plan now was to go back to the hotel for a swim but everyone is too tired so we go back to our room for a rest and to make a start on the packing. When we arrive in our room I find our first (and only) towel animal and a little card from housekeeping.

Later on we wander over to the food court for ice-creams. It may sound as though we’ve eaten a lot of ice-cream this holiday (well I suppose we have) but we have tried to pace ourselves by not eating desserts with our main meals but having them later on with another little rest. On the whole it worked quite well.

After this we go to the hotel gift shop to do the last of our shopping. We want to do DTD check in in the morning and don’t want to be lugging extra shopping with us once the cases have gone.

I just love the gift shop at the hotel. It’s just the right size and has a very good selection of gifts. I’m told that the All Star gift shops are the most expensive on property as they fall into a different county from the others and therefore charge more tax, but I’m not spending a fortune and the convenience more than makes up for any extra tax.

It’s now dark outside and ask the kids what they’d like to do for their last evening but they just want to slob out with some snacks and the TV. DH decide to leave them to it and we go for a walk over to the Movie resort. We had to cut short our visit here earlier in the holiday because of the rain so we take lots of photos before returning to our room to finish the packing.

We set the alarm for 7am and make sure everything is packed before going to bed.

Another great report! I really sense your sadness that it's your last day :sad1:

What a lovely day.

I was ever so disappointed when I found out that the pre-show group (if I remember correctly they were called Four For a Dollar) were no longer performing at the Beauty and the Beast show. I loved listening to them. I did read that they sometimes perform at Sea World.
