Libby’s Trip – Day 9 Royal Pacific Resort and Universal Studios

Cast – Me 43 in love with Mickey Mouse
DH (of 20 years) 43
DS 14 cynical teenager
DD 11 a stroppy little madam

Location – 14 day holiday at Windsor Palms with 1 night trip to Royal Pacific Resort

Date – August 11th to 25th 2005

Friday 19th August

We have to check out this morning and there’s still no sign of the fruit and water we should have had from registering with Loews. Only being here for one night I really can’t be bothered to chase it up – nor do I complain when my Daily Mail is a New York Times.

We’re all packed up and ready to go by 9am. Express checkout is easy and DH takes the bag to the car before meeting us for a breakfast of sticky buns and juice in the lounge.

We take the water taxi to City Walk and have a brief look around the shops before going to Universal Studios. DH has the video camera with him today so we are quite slow moving as we have to wait for him at times.

We all go on Men in Black (DS has to control the locker as the machine won’t read DH’s finger print). I got quite a lot of points for shooting the Cat in the Hat. We all hold our breath on getting off but DD doesn’t strop over her low score on this ride. The others go on Back to the Future (a ride I used to like until I looked over the edge of the car and saw all these other little cars below me – I don’t like heights).

We had lunch at the International Food and Film Festival. Again good food, but not so clean tables. There was a woman cleaning our table – while we were using it, there were empty dirty tables but she was ignoring them. She picked up the map we’d marked our “must dos” on and started telling us we must go to Beetle Juice.

After lunch we have a mooch around Kidzone. The kids ride Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster and then DD gets soaked at the Curious George area. (She’s not too happy at this).

We all ride Jaws (the FOTL was particularly wonderful here) before going straight onto Earthquake. A little girl is freaking out in the row behind me which unnerves DD a little.
I now wish I could do my favourite Kongfontation – but alas it’s no more.

I want to go to the Horror Makeup Show. But the rest of the family aren’t so keen. As I’ve never seen this I insist we go and they were all glad we did. It is the funniest show I’ve seen at the parks – I had tears of laughter streaming down my face. I don’t know if the lady volunteer was a stooge or not, but she was very, very good.

After the show the boys go off to ride the Mummy and DD and I go to Schwab’s Pharmacy for ice cream. We sit inside to eat them and to wait for the boys out of the heat. A car carrying a few characters, including Popeye and Lucille Ball stops outside. The characters go and take up various positions for character greetings and Lucille Ball and a man (her husband?) stop in our doorway. One or two people have their photos taken with her, she was a good likeness, but mostly she’s just blocking the doorway.
One American woman needs to get out of the pharmacy and as she passes “Lucille” the woman curtsied! (I don’t think she was joking.)

The characters move off again just as the boys return. We look around the shops and DD has her photo taken with Woody Woodpecker. We then head off to IOA to ride Spiderman before leaving Universal.

Back at the water taxi there is a long queue for RPR. Our room keys are checked as priority is given to guests. Everyone waiting has a room key but we all manage to fit on. Back at the hotel we have a restroom stop before going to the car.

On the way home I want to visit Michael’s craft shop, but we get lost and find ourselves heading towards Disney on the I4. As we are now driving through heavy rain and an overhead thunder storm I think it’s better we carry on than go back to find the shop.

We arrive back at the villa to hear beeping. We work out that it’s one of the pool alarms. I phone the management company who tell be to remove the battery and they’ll pop by and fit a new one as soon as they can. (I was a little nervous that I’d get fined for tampering with a pool alarm!)

At 6pm after a bit of a rest we head out to the supermarket and buy snacky food for tea. After tea I play with the waste disposal unit (we’ve not had one since we were first married and living in our first flat). We then have a very enjoyable evening of not doing anything in particular.

Great report! I totally agree with you about the Horror Make-UP Show. I didn't know what to expect but, for me, it was a highlight of the holiday. It was so funny I was crying! When we watched it there was a young female chosen as well but she wasn't too keen!

Really enjoyed your report again, Libby, thanks for posting.

I'll make sure we go see that show:)

Great day.

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

I really enjoyed playing with my sons (DS16 and DS14) in Curious George's playground. It was a really great place to cool down after being in the July heat.

We have never tried the Horror Makeup show, we will definitely give it a blast next year after reading your report.

Thanks for posting. :)

Hi Libby

Forgot to ask, how is the horror make-up show for the squeamish??!! :scared:

We have avoided this in the past in case it freaked me out!

Thanks.
