One of the reasons we do what we do is to be examples to others that we can with determination and hard work be fit and healthy. Right now our country is going through a major health crisis. We are the richest and most over weight nation on the planet.
We have a new president and a promise of change starting this month. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the first lady, as her legacy, took that problem by the horns?
Things like workout clothes, race registrations, bikes and gym membership could become tax deductable. States could not get federal highway dollars if they didn't start making bike and running trails and making the roads more bike and runner friendly.
Our health care system would not be so over loaded if the nation were healthier and we wouldn't use as much energy if more people could bike or walk to work. We could even finally get a grip on drug use since people who feel better about them selves don't go looking for artificial feel goods.
She has a good friend in Ophra who could help her with the movement to a healthier nation.
Now I don't make decisions for the WISH or any other team, but please think about this. If WISH and all the other boards started a write in campain and an email campain we might convience her to look at the idea. If each board came up with a letter for each of the members, that wanted to, could send and an address to send them to, we might just make a difference. The time has certainly come for this change in the way we as Americans live.
Think about it, lets kick butt on this race weekend and then talk about what we as boards can actually do.
