I have never run in any marathon before but my goal (from last year) was to keep to a regular schedule, lose weight and participate in the marathon as my final goal. Unfortunately, because my health has not been great, I have been at a standstill as far as the weight loss but have been at least walking / running on my treadmill at home or at the gym.
I see my doc today for the final diagnosis of my problem and he is *supposed* to give me the go-ahead to go back to the gym as I used to before I got sick.
I used to workout 5-6 days per week, doing weight training every other day and intense cardio workouts on the days in between. On the weight training days I also put in at least 2 miles on the treadmill. I usually walk for about 1-2 minutes, then run for 2, walk for 2, run for 2, etc... I find that it helps me to go the distance without feeling like I am going to have jello legs!
It would be really cool to meet up with you before this year's marathon. Have you contacted the marathon people about volunteering? Just curious what opportunities are available.
