Less Expensive Crate Furniture Cushions/Fabric than This End Up?

I mentioned a number of months ago that we were thinking of buying a house (we'd even put a deposit on a home, but the inspection wasn't so good). We actually are going to rent, we got a GREAT rental price on a VERY nice house. It's not cheap, but it is a home we'd not currently be able to buy. And my DH can now have his own pool table, as we will have a 600 square foot bonus room. (Plus, we'll save about one months of rent just in gas/toll prices as he'll be closer to work).

Anyway...has anyone used any other companies for crate furniture items? We have a This End Up sofa and loveseat, but getting cushions and fabric is VERY expensive. We do need new ones, though (the old ones are 15 or so years old, and in pretty bad shape!) I see discounters online, but not reviews.

Thanks!

can't you just bring them somewhere and have them redone? That furniture lasts forever!! We are currently using a set of bunkbeds that we have had at least 20 yrs and 3 or 4 sets of kids.

Have you thought about finding a local upholstry shop? I know my sister did that with a similiar type couch (of course it was Chicago - but they were much less expensive).

I have to say I was surprised to see your post. I didn't realize This End Up was back in business - I worked for the original owners years and years ago in Raleigh... ran a shop for them. Back then we took orders and that was the carpenters work for the week..

I never did buy any of the upholstered stuff - but have the buffet (without hutch) and bunk beds... In fact my buffet was a prototype that sat around the factory .. laugh.. they were trying to figure out how to get a "flat" type instead of one where the center dropped down a bit...

It's great furniture and I wish I would have bought more!

I just found a site on line today called Home Reserve that sells sofa's and chairs that come apart and you assemble them at home. The furniture looks nice, 96 fabrics to choose from and reasonable. I searched for comments on the web and only found positive -except for 1 and she sounded like a "nut" and not reasonable. I ordered some fabric swatches today and if they are OK I think I'm ordering a sofa for the family room- If you order a washable fabric you can take the cover off and wash it and put it back on like when you assembled it.

If anyone on here knows anything about them I'd appreciate your views.

Thanks everyone - I know NOTHING about upholstery, I just know we need to get new cushions and covers. This End Up is in business, and definitely pricey. I've found other companies that I can't find testimonials for which are a little less, I'm just shocked how much a cushion and cover can cost! The furniture itself is great, I don't want to get rid of it. :)

I'm not sure if I can buy similar cushions that aren't made specifically for crate furniture, I just no absolutely nothing about anything that has to do with this. Thanks! I have been searching online, and can't figure it all out (or I would, I don't like asking if I can do it myself). :)

I work with a woman who sews--she's very talented, has professional style machines, and might be interested in tackling your project. Give me a buzz if you're interested.

I've been wondering the same thing .. My father used the this end up furnature .. but at the time couldn't afford their prices .. needless to say .. we had a new weekend project.. yup we built our own ... and now 20 years later .. my parents are both gone and i still have the furnature .. it's now in our "play room" and my kids have just beaten the tar out of the cusions .. I was starting to think about making my own cusions to replace them since i "thought" this end up" was out of business... good to hear they're not and that there are other companies that also do the cusions and upolsrty .. that really wasn't a task i wanted to take on lol

Heather ... are you saying your dad worked at This End Up? If so where at?

I have to say "back in the day" it was a great place to work! Especially before they got bought out .. All young people (back then.. ;) ) It was fun to go to the factory and watch the carpenters choose their wood from the pile and build a piece of furniture! They'd have music blaring and cruising along - lots of laughing and joking.

It was easy to sell too ... I'd climb all over it demonstrating how sturdy it was ... and showing off the fabrics on the chairs and stuff.

Overall it was inexpensive compared to "fine" furniture - but even with my discount we couldn't afford much...

Good luck on making your own cushions. It shouldn't be TOO hard .. especially if you can find the same size foam and use one of the original covers for a pattern. Are your zippers in good enough shape to re-use those?

We had similar furniture when I was growing up, when it was time to renew the cushions, my mom found some nice replacements from an outdoor furniture store. These were sturdy and really close to the same size.

You can go to thisendup.com and purchase replacement cushions or covers from them. They are the only source for REAL This End Up replacement cushions. Also they regularly have sales and if you call them directly - they will provide a discount from 10 - 20% - All you have to do is ask for it! 800-605-2130

They are very friendly and the service is phenomenal!

Sorry, but going to the This End Up website is NOT the only way to get REAL This End Up replacement cushions. You can get them by buying used This End Up sofa's that are for sale on ebay, craigslist, Facebook Marketplace and many other sources of used furniture. You just have to be willing to wait until want you want comes up but they do come up! I bought all original cushions that I needed to replace for my sofa and love seat's dirty cushions for $50. I was patient and I waited to get colors that I could work with. I did have to have a truck to take the frames also but I just left them out front of my house and they were picked up by people in a day. Patience is the key!
