alright, it's 9:15pm and my DD just took a leprechaun trap out of her back pack. They made it at school! She is convinced she will catch a leprechaun tomorrow for St. Patrick's Day! I am really good about playing Santa and the Tooth Fairy, but I am not really sure what to do here... :confused3 I don't want her to be disappointed since obviously she is not going to catch one! *sigh* Is there something I am missing here that I am supposed to do?

I did that in Kindergarten. We set them up at the end of the day in the classroom, left them, and when we came back they were destroyed and the teacher's said "Leperachauns are extremely sneaky, it looks like they got away!".

So just destroy it and say that I guess? :confused3

DS has done this since kindergarten. We always have to make the traps at home, though.

Anyway...like CheezDoodle said, leprechauns are tricky! DS has never caught one. But, every year, the little sprite manages to make a mess of things. So, make it look like the trap was sprung but the leprechaun escaped. And then make a general mess of the room the trap was in.

If the trap is in her bedroom, scatter some of her clothes on the floor (if they're not there already, lol!), turn things upside down, etc. If the kitchen, toss some tupperware on the floor, scatter napkins around, whatever you can think of.

If you have any glitter, you could sprinkle some around, too, if you don't mind running the sweeper in the morning. Just cause mischief and she'll be happy! :)

I've never heard of that, it sounds like a neat idea!

thanks guys!!! I knew I could count on my DIS buddies ;) I think I have some green glitter somewhere that I can sprinkle! :thumbsup2

I would stick a note in it, saying "maybe next time!" signed Lucky (or whatever) and maybe some golden chocolate coins around the trap.
But you probably can't get any of those this time of night.....
Maybe a few real coins?
And some glitter, a four leaf clover (again, difficult to find!), or something like that?

Have fun!!

when i was little.. i was told the leprechaun will turn into a doll when a human is near... i have a small ragdoll and i use to think it turned real when i went to bed... :sad2: never did catch him in the act...

;)

When I was teaching preschool, we used to leave "lephrecaun" footprints around. If you take washable green paint and cover the side of your hands...it'll look like a little foortprint and then use your pinkie to make the toes (just remember to use both your hands, so they have right and left feet) :lmao:

A leprechaun can't be caught but it can look like they were there...
yes they mess up everything... they also leave green footprints somewhere... they put lots of things upside down, and usually leave gold coins.... a note is a cute idea too. In school we would follow the footprints to see where they had gone and it usually led into the principals office which was then trashed too.......
Have fun.

leprechauns visited our family every year even when I went to college. He would always make a mess of my house/room and leave gold coins, andes mints, or other mints around the house. My dad even set it up so we would come home-open the front door and walk inside-while the back door slammed shut. We had just missed the leprechaun. What ever you do be sure to taken notes so you can do it the next year it is a lot of fun. THis year will be my sons first st. pats day so I have the mints all ready.
