Hey guys! I am going to Disneyland for the first time in October and I am going to rent a lens for the park but I am not sure what lens would work the best.

I think I would like a mid range zoom lens because ideally I would like to only carry one lens and the camera in the park. We will be doing several character meals along with fireworks/ parades ect.

I shoot with a Nikon D90. Any advice on what you like to use to shoot in the parks would be helpful and also any rental sites someone has used that worked well would be great too!
Thanks in advance!

I'll take a swing at this, but you didn't say what lens or lenses you already have.

The Nikon D90 most likely came with an 18-105VR or an 18-135, so I'm going to assume that you want something other than that. (although the 18-105 is a good choice for WDW). Finding a one lens solution that does it all is just impossible. You have to make some compromises or bring an extra lens or two.

I like to rent from Borrow Lenses. but there are many other places.

some choices are:
Nikon 18-200 - nice travel zoom, but slow aperture.
Nikon 17-55 - fast but not a lot of reach, and big and HEAVY
Tamron 18-50 - fast but not a lot of reach
Sigma 10-20 - wide angle, but probably not a walk around lens
Sigma 30 f/1.4 - normal lens but very fast. Good for indoor, night and low light stuff.
Sigma 50-150
Nikon 24-120 f/4 - might be fun walk about lens, but it's not very wide on a crop sensor.
Nikon 70-200

I couldn't choose just one lens. That's why they are made to be interchangeable.

a really wide angle lens are fun at disney. 8mm fisheye or 11-16 wide angle.

You'll see from the advice already given, a big zoom is generally not a priority at Disney, at least outside of the safari at Magic Kingdom. Ultra wide, and very fast -- become bigger priorities especially if you want to shoot dark rides or at night.

Assuming you already have a basic lens that gives you 18-135 or so, I'd simply carry that and add 1 lens -- a fast prime lens.
Maybe something like the Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 ZF Planar T or the Nikon 35mm f/1.4G AF-S, which I might even use as my primary lens.

I have a 55-200 and that stayed home. I was at DW this past weekend and the 2 lenses that i carried were the Nikon 10-24 and 24-70 2.8 Do not really need much more than that unless you are going to spend time in AK. I am still shooting with a D40 and pics are great

Thank you so much for your help everyone! I just bought the camera body and only have my lens from when I bought my D40 that I can't stand which is 18-55. I also have a 50mm but I would like something more versatile. I think I will order two lenses and get a wide angle for fun and either an 18-105 or 24-85. I will have to price it out. Thanks so much again!!
