I’m looking to add a new lens to the two that I already have, a DT 18-70 F3.5-5.6 Lens and a SLA75300 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 Lens.
What lens would you buy next?
(Keep in mind that price does matter);)

If you are looking to take low-light shots you can't go wrong with a 1.4 or 1.8 prime (usually at 50mm or 30mm). I have the Canon 50mm f. 1.8 and love it.

What are you looking to take that you currently can't get with your current lenses. It is much better to decide what your not getting that you would like to get, rather than getting a lens and trying to come up with times to use it.

It sure would be nice to speak with one of you guys on the phone one day. I could learn more in a short conversation then all the books I could ever read.:sad2:

Now with that said I think that the SLA75300 75-300mm F4.5-5.6 gives me all the zoom that I can handle without a tripod and the DT 18-70 F3.5-5.6 will give me any pictures that I want that will not need a zoom. I'm guessing here but something with a f2.? so I will have a lens that would be easy to shoot with at night without a flash. (of course I'm just guessing here);)

Then I would look at one of the fast primes. I am not very familiar with the Sony lenses, but I am sure they have a 50mm prime that is probably 1.8 or 1.4. This was a "normal" lens in the 35mm world. In dSLR's the 30mm is probably the equivalent. If you want something with a little more power most makers have something in the 85mm catagory.

I am guessing when you talk about taking night pictures easily your talkin of things like spectro or something. If your talking about pictures of the castle or fireworks, your money would be better spent on a decent tripod.

If your talking about pictures of your kids, your money might be better spent on an external flash.

MM Thank You, I will look at those lens & a good flash. I have 2 tripods, I just don't like draging them around WDW with me.

I'll go with the fast prime too. I'm a Nikon shooter and the 50mm f1.8 has been great. It performs well in low light, is sharp and compact and at ~$100 it won't break the bank.

DW bought me a Minolta AF 50mm 1.7 used off of Ebay for under $100.00. I have been really pleased with it. I will have to post some pictures with it as soon as my DW shows me how to post them. I will say that sometimes I wish the lens was on the wider end, say maybe 24-28mm. It can get expensive to find a wide and fast lens that's why I continue to look at Minolta lenses on Ebay.

Nikkor 200-400mm f/4 ED-IF AF-S VR

Now, if you want low light, then the next least expensive option is the 50mm f/1.8. It is tack sharp, lightweight, and inexpensive. However, on a crop sensor it is kind of long. It does well on the indoor rides at Disney and I also like to use mine as a portrait lens. I've gotten spectacular results with it in that regard.

If you want something a little shorter then look at Sigma's 30mm f/1.4. Sets the wallet back a few more bucks, but it is a VERY nice lens.

You could also look at changing your walk around lens to a 17-55mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8 or 28-80mm f/2.8. These don't have the focal range as your current lens, but does have the f/2.8 through the entire zoom range and have excellent IQ.

Everyone's going to be different. Take the options/opinions and apply them to your own shooting habits and go from there.

Will all Milonta, Konica, & Pentax SLR lens fit the Sony DSLR's?

To the best of my knowledge, no pentax lens will work on a sony body, some of the old minolta lenses will, not sure about konica.

If you looking at Minolta lenses make sure it's says AF or autofocus. You can use older manual focus lenses but you will need an adapter to make them work. IMO, I would probably stay away from that type of lens, it's difficult to get a good focus thru the viewfinder. I have seen some great photos on another board but I'm not in their league.
