Length of Stay ECV Rental

Has anyone out there tried this?

I saw in the Passporter for Special Needs that you can rent an ECV from the theme parks for the length of your stay (10% discount) & you simply show your receipt when you get to the parks.

We aren't planning on renting from off-site b/c we need 2 ECVs (one for dear aunt and one for dear niece - no relation ) and would prefer to get the ECVs after we get to the parks. Both are ambulatory for the distance from handicapped parking to turnstiles. DN had ankle fusion in December, DA had stroke in December. Trip is planned for the week of St Patrick's Day.

I know they were doing that for a while, but I don't know if they still are. I also know that people had posted before that length of stay ECV rentals were suspended during busy time because they could not guarantee that one would be available when people came to use their prepaid voucher.
If worse comes to worse and they don't have any ECVs at the park you are at, they will give you a wheelchair and credit the difference.

i don't know about how busy it is over Valentine's Day (we have been there in the past and it was not particularly busy), but the time around President's Day (Feb 19) and the weekend before it is quite busy.

The policy appears to no longer exist. I just went into the Cast Portal and found this:

"A limited number of Electric Convenience Vehicles (EVCs) are available on a first-come, first-served basis and quantities are limited. Guests should plan to arrive early.

ECVs are available only on a same-day basis and may only be used in the Park where they are rented. ECVs will be held if Guests wish to leave and return to the same Park. Guests planning to visit more than one Park on the same day should retain their deposit ticket from the first Park they visit. This will enable them to obtain a replacement wheelchair or ECV on the same day, if available, at the next Park with no additional charge. NOTE: Wheelchairs or ECVs may not be available at the second Park."

The section on wheelchair and stroller rental quoted both daily and LOS prices, but for ECVS onbly daily prices were quoted.

We had difficulty getting ECV's at the parks on our 2000 trip and since then have chosen to rent off site. It is much easier and the equipment has been good quality.

I must add that if you are staying on Disney property, there is a great deal of walking about any of the resorts. Even your usual hotel can be a challenge and the ECV's are a big help.

I can confirm that they will no longer do length of stay rentals on ECVs. Last weekend, I asked and they looked at me like I had tentacles or something coming out of my head!

We just got back two days ago from a week at Disney World and although I can't tell you about length of stay passes, I can tell you even at this slower time of year the ECV's went quickly. For example, on Monday we entered the Magic Kingdom about 9:30 am and there were still some ECV's available. When we left at 3:00 there weren't any. I was talking to a guest using one of the Disney rentals while waiting for my husband, and she told me she'd had a hard time getting one arriving much past first thing in the morning.

I used an ECV the entire trip that I rented from an outside company. It was a great, great experience and hands down, I'd do it again. We stayed at Pop Century and I had plenty of room to park the scooter in our room. We just moved the table a bit and one of the chairs and had the perfect space. I was so glad to have the ECV at the resort and downtown Disney as well as in the parks. I have bad knees and walking much makes them swell so with the ECV I had the chance to explore my own resort, many of the stores at Downtown Disney as well as some of the other resorts.

I should also report that getting around on the ECV was so easy. The bus drivers were all very nice and helpful. I did "crash" more than once backing into the buses but the drivers just laughed it off and helped me when I needed it. Most rides I was able to scooter right down to the entrance too and the cast members were very nice about it. I couldn't have taken the trip without the ECV and was so glad people were helpful and kind to me. I was very concerned that wouldn't be the case before I left home.

We arrived at about 3 pm on a Wednesday and my scooter was at my resort waiting for me. We left at 1 pm the following Tuesday and I turned my scooter back in just before leaving so I had it nearly every minute of my stay.

This was my experience and my suggestion, rent one or two scooters off site. You won't be disappointed.
