Where would you stay?

We're flying into SNA on the 27th of July...driving to San Diego and spending 5 nights there. Where would you stay? We're thinking Carlsbad....but not sure.

Let me know what you think!

I was just in Carlsbad on business and my suggestion is the Grand Pacific Palisades Resort and Hotel. It is a beautiful place and right next door to Legoland. It does have a family atmosphere. It is a 35 minute drive from San Diego airport and close to many activities. I even mentioned to my husband that it may be a spot we should consider for a family vacation. Anyway, check out the resort/hotel....it was quite reasonable too. I believe my king room was 118/night and it was discounted.

We stayed at the Carlsbad Inn beach resort and loved it.
The location is great. It is on the corner of Main St so you can walk to anything in town. It is right across the street from the beach. They have beach chairs, boogie boards, sand toys that you can check out (great if taking a plane).
It is ~10 mintues to Legoland, 40-45 to Seaworld.
I really liked the dining options and atmosphere in downtown Carlsbad.
We had such a great time that we are going back again (long way from Mass).

I have a night book at West Inn and Suites and also Homewood Inn and Suites Carlsbad...

Has anyone stayed at either?

I had a hard time trying to figure out were to stay to. We decided to stay the Hyatt Mission Bay because of the pool. But for our trip its our only hotel. We are staying with family in LA.

Its super close to Sea World but a 30 min drive or so to Lego land. The other stuff we wanted to do was all in San Diego thats why we stayed in San diego instead of Carlsbad near lego land.

The pools look amazing.

I'm wondering if I shouldn't switch our reservation to somewhere closer to SD and then commute the 2 days to Legoland.

If I do book SD then I think I'll just try on Priceline...

Thats why we stayed closer to San Diego. It all depends on what you want to do. I figured it was better to drive longer 1 day than everyday.

I would stay closer to all the stuff you want to do most.

From what I understand (and the map). You have to drive to any non Hyatt restraunt, shop ect...

They are running a "sunshine on sale" promo I htink it was stay 2 nights get the 3rd free.

I like the Hyatt Mission Bay...trying to justify the parking charge ($20) but am guessing all hotels will have similar charges.

Ouch...or the $339 a night price tag. I'm sure I checked 3 days ago and it was $229 for 3 nights, 4th free.

The decision now is whether or not we stick with Carlsbad for all 6 nights...or do 4 in SD and then 2 right in Carlsbad...or other way around...just trying to figure it all out!

Just wanted to update...

We're going to stay at West Inn and Suites for the first 3 nights of our trip, then at the Omni San Diego the next 3 (just won on Priceline tonight...$88/night, can't beat that!) and then to Anaheim for the last 5 nights.

:)
