Leaving your stuff behind in resort laundry rooms? Is this a new thing?

I totally agree with you. If someone has items to donate, they should drop them by a donation center. Don't leave them in places like a laundry room for the resort to have to dispose of.

They don't want to deal with all that. Cast members actually tell people to leave in the laundry room. This has been going on a very long time. Nothing new.

I had picked up a double sit and stand stroller second hand specifically for the trip. I knew we wouldn’t ever use it at home and our older GS would be too big by our next trip. So I left it with a note on our last day and someone grabbed it within 10 minutes.
We could easily have taken it home since we drive, and sold it or given it away at home. But I suspected someone would be regretting their decision not to bring a stroller for their older child and would welcome the freebie. And judging by how quickly it disappeared, I think I was right.

Stuff dropped off at the resorts, consumables usually, is very well known. It's one of those things that I thought anyone reading around here knew about.
Have half a case of water left and you are flying, leave it at the resort so someone else can use it.
Laundry soap, same thing.
Clothes is a new one but I'll be honest, I left behind a pair of shoes on purpose yesterday. I hated the shoes, They are very nice Vionic shoes, barely worn. I know someone will get use from them. Either staff or guest.
We even had beer left one trip, back when I bothered to shop for food. We gave it to bell services. To make sure it didn't get in to wrong hands, of course.

Stuff that gets left behind without any clear reason will eventually make its way to charity, but after wasting a lot of resources. Unless it clearly looks like trash (and goes into the garbage), it needs to be tagged, logged for lost and found, and then stored in an organized manner for a certain number of days. I can't remember if it's 60 or 90 days later, but if nobody claims it then Disney will donate it. Not sure if they still do this, but in the past I recall cast member sales where CMs could come in and pay cash (which would go to charity) and it was a good way to get a deal. But it was a long process that added extra work for the CMs.

That's what I was thinking too. If this becomes a really popular thing for people to do, maybe some enterprising charity should come in and make a deal with Disney... put their official donation boxes in every resort laundry room.

There is a DVC FB group dedicated to passing on food, refillable mugs, refillable popcorn buckets, etc. We always leave whatever we have that someone else might use.

I can understand pixie dusting another family with items like umbrella strollers, because they should be reused. Or laundry soap. Or unopened beverages (you buy a case or two and have unopened beverages left behind).

But *that* picture looked like a whole lot of personal and opened toiletries. Like a large bottle of shampoo, only halfway used. Why not just purchase a small bottle of shampoo? Or ton of clothes. Or sunscreen without a cap on. I think I spotted an unopened jar of spaghetti sauce, which is great because it's unopened, but what in the world are you going to do with a jar of spaghetti sauce at CSR? I mean, I understand a DVC resort, where you have a kitchen, but at CSR? It seems to me that people are seriously overbuying. It creates work for the staff to have to throw out all this stuff.

I see this all the time on the Port Orleans Riverside/FQ FB page. Like a PP already said, I think a lot of people that do this are from the UK and they have simply run out of luggage space to take home some of their stuff.

We’ve left water and snacks before and I just give it to bell services when they come to get our bags. They’re always appreciative and tell me they’ll share it with the rest of the crew.

That's what I do with leftover (unopened) drinks and snacks, as well as the candy I don't like from Trick Or Treating at the Halloween party.

There is a DVC facebook group that members arrange to leave leftovers and other members will claim the products. These items (at least at a DVC resort) are always picked up and never left for cleaning. Because members often have kitchens it is a great help. Also, very responsible as everyone is upcycling their items and not throwing things away. I do believe Disney has a policy that does not allow mousekeeping to keep your items. I would much rather leave my unopened bottled waters to a Disney family than throw it away. However, the items are usually unopened food items, umbrella type strollers, sunscreen, etc.

If we have soda, water or snacks left over at the end of our trip, I will gift them to Bell Services...I have regularly seen laundry detergent left in the laundry rooms. On our last trip to POFQ, I saw a couple gift their refillable mugs and a misting fan to a family checking in...

I've thought about leaving behind my refillable mug for someone else. I don't know if there's a good way to wash and sanitize it, so I'm not sure whether I would accept one if offered. I have so many of them at home and don't have a need for more. I left it with the cans and bottles in my room last time, hoping that Disney sorts and recycles plastics.

I also had some leftover sunscreen that I couldn't take with me (since I wasn't checking bags at the airport). I left it at Typhoon Lagoon, but I'll bet it probably just got tossed in the trash. Maybe next time I can bring some labels that say that the stuff is up for grabs for anyone who wants to save some money.

Yes, last year we were at POFQ for two weeks and there were several items, laundry baskets, sunblock, laundry detergent, bath soap, and much more. We actually took advantage of a collapsible laundry basket since we had forgot to bring one.

Yes, and even those who do rent a car, probably won't want to spend precious vacation time going to a donation center.

We saw this at the Beach Club laundry room earlier this summer.
A whole laundry table was taken up with leftover food containers, beverages, partially used sunblock products and several clothing items.
It looked trashy and left little room for the half dozen of us who were in and out trying to get laundry done.
