Leaving today for Disney, if we skip mousekeeping (long stay), will they refresh tissue, towels, etc.?

Hello, we are going to Disney World today after not going or staying for several years (it is our 30th anniversary!). If we skip mousekeeping (long stay), will they bring us toilet tissue/towels and such if we ask to the door or do we have to go hunt it down? I would guess we'd use two towels a day easy each. I don't mind skipping housekeeping at all (in fact, would welcome it) but would hate to walk to the desk every day or two to ask for supplies. How is that handled? We'll be at the All Star sports--our first time in a value, we have only done moderates before so it will be interesting to see the difference. I am going to "try" to get a room on the back, 2nd floor if what I have read is right about quietness. We are trying the sports/ value due to a great deal I found..... and we said we'd rather have a longer trip at Disney than a shorter stay in a moderate or deluxe.

Any tips appreciated. I don't post but have read on here for years when we'd go. The fast pass and all is new to me, I set up our days already.

Will be looking for somewhere to eat at least on our anniversary on Disney for a "good" meal..... I know I better try to book something.
I need to investigate options. Husband has diabetes and I am allergic to shellfish---so that limits the menu.

Anyway, just wondering about the skipping housekeeping deal. Sorry if this is a repeat, I couldn't find the info on the toilet tissue, etc. I don't mind tipping if the maid or someone brings it to the door...

Thanks!

I am a proponent of skipping housekeeping to get the gift card, but even I think it may not be right for you.

First, I’d say replacing towels is the biggest part of housekeeping. If you’re going through two per day per person, it’s worth having daily service.

Second concern is your long stay. My girlfriend and I are very tidy and easily reused our towels. However, 5-days was at the limit and even we’d want someone to give the room a once over.

If you are determined to proceed, I haven’t needed to request supplies but my impression is they’d drop at your door. I was always prepared to walk to front desk if required though. Just time it with your trip to the busses or meals.

thank you! We are tidy as well and generally never in the room when we are at Disney. We are used to staying in a condo closer to home with no housekeeping and do pretty well keeping it as clean, but of course there are more towels. We would definitely want fresh towels and I appreciate your input. :)

I don't know how to copy the link but if you go to the 13th page of this thread there are suggestions regarding declining housekeeping.
We are staying at the Caribbean resort in August and plan to decline housekeeping. No big deal since we have DVC and are used to not having housekeeping...actually like not having it.
Have a wonderful time!!

If you would like fresh towels every day, declining housekeeping might not be right for you. especially with an extended stay. You will not have beds made, clean sheets, floors cleaned, bathrooms cleaned and trash removal.

When they come through for a security check, which they will do each day, regardless of you declining housekeeping - sometimes they will do a trash removal. Other times,we have placed our trash outside our door, but only if and when a housekeeping cart was nearby, or actually carried it to the maid.

They will deliver fresh towels and anything else that you might need. You can call housekeeping on the phone, go to the front desk, or stop at the resort laundry room (not guest laundry) and request your needs.

Not sure what your travel dates are, but you can make dining reservations 180 + 10 days before your stay. My recomendation would be California Grill. It is expensiv e, but you could try to make a reservation and then watch fireworks from their observation deck. The restaurant is located at the Contemporary Resort.

A tip is definitely appreciated for any service that you request.

We skipped mousekeeping last summer when we went for the first time. It may have been my biggest regrets ever. We are a pretty tidy family---and I try to pick up and keep things organized and clean myself on vacation on a daily basis each day so I though it would be no big deal. Then I found us needing more towels than I anticipated due taking more showers than normal plus having kids that also were taking more showers than usual at home. We called every second or third day to get towels. Sometimes they came right away, other times we had to call a second and even third time to get them dropped off. I had no problem with the concept of taking out my own trash, but getting extra trash bags was nearly impossible that it got to the point of just becoming a hassle. And then half way through the trip my oldest accidentally spilled a bag of the pretzel dust in our room. No mousekeeping; no vaccum. Then a day later my youngest who was on the tail end of potty training had an accident while napping in the bed---luckily it didn't effect the mattress but did get his baby blanket and the top sheet. Had to bed for an extra set of sheets to be brought to my room---where I then had to change them all myself. Needless to say I wont be declining mousekeeping again, especially when travelling with kids. Even if its adults only, I am not sure it's worth it for $10 a day in a giftcard.

If only you could select which days to opt out instead of having it the full trip. Like for an 8 day stay, last day is obviously a housekeeping day, but can select day 4 as a housekeeping day. Then you get 6 instead of 7 days of no housekeeping, so $60 in gift cards.

Having to opt in the full stay makes it hard to decline.

We typically do 2 week vacations and always decline housekeeping. You can request anything you need from your phone in your room. They will bring you as many towels, toilet paper, toiletries or trash bags etc. that you need. Also if you want clean linens you can also request those. You will just need to change them yourself. If you want to decline the housekeeping, just request it and they will issue you a gift card via email for $10/ day minus 1 day. We also do tip the "runner".

We're accustomed to staying DVC so we are use to the lack of housekeeping services. So when we stay on cash ressies we decline housekeeping. We're not the tidiest bunch, but have no problem resusing towels a few times. We just make a call when we need a restock of anything. It has never been an issue. This includes when needing a replacement of TP.

Dummy question here, but how can you spend the gift card during your stay? Can you link it to your band? Pay at a restaurant with the email somehow?

We declined mousekeeping last February. It was fine! They’ll come by your room anytime you call with fresh towels, coffee, will empty your trash etc., you don’t have to walk to the front desk. I even had mousekeepers cleaning nearby rooms see us as we entered our room and would ask if we need anything or if we had trash or recycling. Also, rooms are stocked with numerous towels, so if it’s just two of you, you won’t need to call for fresh ones every day.

Hi!

Below is the Service Your Way flyer in case they didn't give you one at Check-in.

We are at Sports now staying in Surf's Up! and I see that you were looking for a quiet room.

I hope they gave you Surf's Up! because The 15s are in every other section! :)

In case they didn't give you Surf's Up! and you are curious as to the nationality of The 15s in your section, here is a current list:

Home Run Hotel----Argentina
Center Court----Paraguay and Argentina
Touchdown!----Brazil

For what it's like we declined it and in the lobby they had signs up telling people to ask me about (whatever their phrase for it was) skipping housekeeping. It was really busy down there and they were telling everyone. We did it, already used the money on some meals. I asked for the plastic gift card. We have called for fresh towels, etc. and they told us to leave the dirty by the door. Each day we've had the towels in like 10 min. Today I put the trash by the door and it was gone , too. We've had a room check, too with the sign on the door in the middle of the afternoon once-----have not seen them again yet.... hope they come while we are at the park. I mentioned at check in to have them do it early and the woman kind of laughed and acted like they'd do it when they wanted to do it. The man was nice but it was intrusive at the time. We were tired and resting. Otherwise, we've had a great time. I don't like the daily check though. Skipping housekeeping ---just fine! Buses are running fast and the same as the moderates we've stayed at---speedy this week.

Oh, yes we did ask for a room on the back in a quiet area. It is very quiet---lots of teen groups (like tour groups, lots) have not heard a peep, they are not around us. Just young families, middle age families....They upgraded us to a king without us asking.

Well, just saw your post WEDWDW-----we are not in surf's up but no teen groups on the back side of our building. Maybe they put the families on one side? Super quiet. The mattress seems new, better than ours at home.

Also, I saw them starting to do some refurbishments on building 8 I believe 2 days ago. They had carpet on the ground either pulled up or going in and mattresses and furniture on the outside of the building.

Well, it's staying bold since I pasted your name.... sorry, can't click it off...

Again Thank you all... Everyone has been super helpful!
