Leaving luggage in your rental car trunk at resort?

Would you feel safe doing this? We are checking into Pop for one night and checking out the next morning to go to the Wilderness Lodge. I thought we could just leave most things in the trunk and only take in what we needed for the night. Do you think it would be safe?

Thanks!

We always stay at a different resort our first night. We always leave everything in the car - no trunk (SUV). No one has ever bothered anything. I think you are quite safe doing this.

The only time I have ever felt unsafe leaving anything in my car trunk is at Christmas at the Mall. If I come out of the Mall with packages and put them in the trunk and then go back into the Mall. You never know who just saw you doing that and now know there's goods in the trunk.

My in-laws have a BAV (Big A** Van). No trunk. My brother-in-law had so much junk on the trip that he left everything of his in the BAV and just brought in what he needed for each night and the next morning. Everything else stayed out in the BAV with no cover over it. He wasn't exactly quiet about what he was doing either. Nothing was ever disturbed or taken or anything.

We leave our stuff in our trunk all the time since we arrive before noon and head to a park after check in. We ask the eneral area of our room assignment and move the car over to the proper lot but then just leave it until we come back at the end of the day.

Heck, once at the Swan I accidently left the driver's side car door standing wide open for four hours. We had a laptop and cell phones uncovered in the back seat. All was still there when we came back (I still get kidded about doing that).

My feelings are that if someone needs my suitcase and clothes, take them, ain't going to get much of value. I do take our small carryon with the electronic stuff into the resort. I feel with all the cars in the lots, no one's going to do any stealing.

You can check with the resort, if you bring everything into the first resort you are staying they will move your luggage for you if you move to another resort, that way you won't have to lug your luggage. :)

Depends on your preference and the amount of stuff you are bringing.

It wouldn't bother me to leave stuff overnight in the trunk. We usually check out pretty early on our last day & all our stuff is in there to go directly to the airport. Like a PP said, they're only going to get my clothes-& all dirty ones at that.:)

We had our rental broken into at MGM. Resorts could be different but I will never chance anything like that again.

Have stayed at Pop twice, and while I would take my *most* cherished and valuable items with me just to be on the safe side, I personally would have no problems leaving the rest in the Pop parking lot. :wizard:

I think it should be fine on the trunk, especially if it's just one night. Don't leave anything in the front areas, where people could see in. And park as close to lights/people/activity as you can, so thieves will be less likely to target a car.

I would feel perfectly safe leaving stuff in my trunk....however I have melted lots of cosmetics and toiletries by leaving luggage in the trunk at WDW all day....the heat was deadly....so in answer to your question I think the luggage is fine overnite, but I would check it at the new resort in the AM so it doesn't melt the next day!

I will do it if it is a car.

I will NOT do it if it is an SUV without a "trunk cover" My coworkers have been hit several times and had things stolen. (At this point I pretty much won't even take one of these off the lot.... not worth the risk IMHO)

I do it with my van all the time at disney but then my windows are tinted very dark. Everything is closed up in our luggage bags so a person would have to take the whole ugly bag to find anything or stand there an open the bags an go thru them possible but not likely.

Since you usually need to go thru the resort by a gatekeeper I think everything would be fine.

I recall reading about a family that had their car broken into at one of the resorts a few years back. I think it was an All Star..but I can't be sure.

We'll be doing the same thing you are on our next trip. I haven't decided what to do about that one night yet either.

Yup, would. Have. When we stay at moderate hotels and are leaving early, we always load the car the night before.

Would I put the necklace my grandma gave me in there? No. I wouldn't ever leave anything in a car that I'd just die if it were stolen.

Something to think about:

I would be extremely leery of doing it if your rental car has an automatic trunk release on the key fob. Criminals have joined the high tech era and many now cruise parking lots with equipment to broadcast a signal on the same freqeuncies that the car fobs use. They don't have to break into a trunk anymore, just use wireless technology to pop it open.

Man I don't want anyone breaking into my car:headache: They just steal things out of it, or will they try to take your car?
