Can you leave your child in the kids club and leave the ship to do an excursion? I don't want to leave DD behind, but I also want to do the horseback riding on the beach and she is to young to come along (it is something of dreamed of doing). :guilty:

You can do it, but this subject almost always starts a debate. I hope it won't this time.

I would do it without qualms, others will have differing opinions. Go have fun!

I wouldn't do it simpy because what if you got hurt and were rushed to the hospital and airlifted someplace (yea yea farfetched but not impossible)...your child would be left on the ship and you would be elsewhere. I have no doubt that you can leave your child there to go on excursions and they would be just fine in the kids club...but I personally wouldn't do it.

I left my DD who was 5 at the time in the club and toured the atlantis resort. I also check her into scuttles cove and enjoy serenity bay on castaway cay. I believe the beepers work at long distances,so if your child needs you, you will be notified.

You have to take each situation as individual, my daughter is and has always been eager to attend the clubs, never wants to leave even at closing, and is a very outgoing gal, so this works for us. If my child was clingy, and upset about the arrangements I wouldnt leave her.

You are the only person qualified to determine if this arrangement is ok for your child. I feel dcl is safe, at home we have never ever used daycare or babysitters, only family, anything disney to me is the next best thing.

Cindy, is anyone else besides you and your child, joining you on the cruise? An option is to give the beeper to them. There is a problem with the beepers. In some ports, they don't work. I do not know which ones.

That said, I have to be honest. I would have a hard time leaving DD 6, on the ship, while I go onshore. Sigh. This is a hard one. You deserve your dream. Check further about the beepers.

Good luck

1st cruise (Oct '02) I was worried. Left 3&5 year old in clubs for 2 hours while we toured Key West. Since it was our first day I was more worried than I would have been later in the trip

2nd cruise (last week; boo-hoo, sob, sniff). We left then 4&6 year old in clubs on Tuesday (St. Maarten) from 9:30-3:00. Felt much more relaxed about it and told the counselors upfront that we were going off-ship; they made a note in the computer as they knew the pagers wouldn't work. We went to Orient Beach then shopping downtown.

We spent all day Wed on St. Thomas/St. John with the kids (private daysail with Ike Witt) so there is a way to balance the adult activities with the family ones so everyone enjoys the trip (the biggest draw for us with a Disney cruise).

It does depend a lot on your kids and their reaction to the clubs. Mine LOVED it; more this year than last in fact.

Thanks for the info. I think i'm going to feel more guilty than worried. My DD's are going to be 10 and 4. I know the 10 year old will be fine, and my 4 year old is very good about staying with new people since she started preschool. I just wasn't sure Disney allowed you to leave them when you are off the ship.
