Hi guys! We are leaving for a 7 day Disney trip in 5 days! This will be our 8th time staying on property at WDW! I just have a few questions...

1 Is the opening Magic Kingdom show still in the front of the castle or has it gone back to the front at the train station like it used to be?

2 Has anyone linked their debit/credit cards to their magic band and could you help me with pros and cons? Specifically is it safe?

3 If I have family coming for just one day is it ok for them to park at our resort in the morning and ride the Disney bus with us to the park and back to the hotel for that day?

4. We are having a surprise Disney proposal for my daughter, (that’s why the extra family for one day). Anyone do this and/or have any tips to make it as magical as we can without spending more $$?

Thanks to everyone for your responses!

1. In front of the castle.

2. We have linked our credit card (never a debit card) to our MDE account with no problem. Before magic bands, we had it linked to our hotel account and used our tickets/room keys to charge to the room. No problems. It isn't stored on your magic band, it is in your account, the same as your tickets and magic band are linked to the account.

3. Resort parking is supposed to be for resort guests, but I'm sure it has been done before.

4. I don't know, but I hope it goes well for your daughter. I am a private person and would have been horrified with a public proposal and all of my family around, but everyone is different. If you do a search for "proposal", there are probably a lot of threads with ideas.

I hope you have a great trip!

Another thought on 3, is your family likely to be on time, or do they tend to run late? If they run late, I would definitely have them meet you at the park. They can text when they arrive and you can make arrangements to meet up with them. If your daughter doesn't know anything is going on, she may get suspicious if you are waiting around for them at the resort.

I have just 4 members that want to meet us at the resort... the rest of them (11 more!)are all coming in as a surprise and are meeting us at the park. The 4 that want to meet at the resort my daughter knows are coming for the day. They tend to not be tardy though so I’m thinking it should be ok

Which resort?

Years ago my long time BFF lived in Orlando and when my family came to Disney, her family would come to our hotel one night and we’d hang out/have dinner, catch up. Or sometimes just she’d come and we’d do a girls day at the pool. I always called the front desk the day before and made sure they knew she was coming and they passed along by her name to the front gate. I also made sure she had my room number if she was asked who she was visiting.

Now they charge parking fees though - so not sure. Although, guests with dining reservations can still park for free......

And we always link our credit cards to our magic bands. Super convienient, never had a false charge.

Have you told Disney about the proposal? I’ve read they can make sure to have a photographer on site to take pictures. You could get the memory maker or days worth of pictures - that would be relatively cheap compared to studio photography, and professionally done with photographers who have done this before and probably have some good ideas for shots.

Staying at POR, third stay there, I think it’s my favorite moderate. Yes the new parking fees. I’m not a fan of that at all! Very glad I beat the deadline of booking this trip and we aren’t stuck with that charge this time!! I was planning on alerting the front desk and we will work it all out one way or another when we check in. I have alerted Disney guest services of the proposal and they will have ‘happily ever after’ buttons for us and have assured me photo pass photographers will be amply available. We have already purchased Memory Maker for the entire trip too!

As for linking my card... I have money saved up for the trip so I was going to use a debit card not my credit card which leaves me a little more concerned... wouldn’t be so worried if it was a credit card. I thought of purchasing a gift card but then didn’t want to deal with the hassle of what if I didn’t spend it all? Do you think linking a debit card is safe also?

Thanks!

My son proposed to his now Fiance in front of the castle. He let the Photopass photographer know before he did it so they were able to capture the shot in real time.

Awesome! That’s our plan! Got Memory Maker purchased already!!

FYI, you're not linking a debit/credit card to your actual magic band. You're using your Magic band to charge to your resort room, just like the "old days" when you used a plastic card to charge to your room. You will be able to set up a PIN code for your band(s).

I wouldn't use a debit card. The credit card is much more secure. If lost or compromised you are only responsible fo 50$ and maybe not even that. With a debit card you can be cleaned out and the bank has very little responsibility. That is why as soon as there is a discrepancy on the cc the bank is quick to contact you.

I have put additional money on my credit card, carried a positive balance, and used it like a debit. Or just transfer money in the evening from checking to credit.
