leapster vs. leapster l-max

I would love to have some opinions on the new leapster l-max vs. the older one. I know the newer one can play on your tv, is that the main difference?
I guess my main question is: is it worth it to buy the older one for my dd6? I could buy the newer one, but I'm trying to spend less so I can but her the disney princess tv and dvd player ! Do you think the old ones will become obsolete? I think the new games play on the older systems, right?
