Hi all!

So my fiance and I were just engaged this past Saturday evening (hooray!) We've always known we wanted to get married at Walt Disney World, and we know we are interested in the Memories package, so today I called just to get a few ideas. We are looking to get married on February 29, 2016 so I knew I wasn't even close to being able to book yet, but I just wanted to get some information. Though nice, the girl I talked to seemed completely uninterested and gave me conflicting information. I first asked her if i had to wait and book on August 29th exactly (which would be my 6 month mark to the day) or if it was just their first business day in August (which would be August 3, 2015). First she told me the 29th, and then as we were hanging up she told me "Ok, so just call the morning of the third and you'll be all set." So now I'm just confused. I plan all calling again tomorrow or so but i was just hoping to get some advice and answers from others who have done a wedding at Disney.

Basically, here are my questions:

1) Firstly, of course, did you have to wait and book at 6 months to the day or is it just the first business day at the 6 months away month?
2) Secondly, how hard do you think it will be to get the date I want, being as it's Leap Day? I plan on calling at exactly 9AM on the dot (when they open) and I'm not picky about times and am willing to go with either Luau Beach (1st choice) or Conch Key (2nd choice) (and honestly, in reality I'd probably take wilderness lodge if I had to to get my specific date). I'm just so worried I'll call right at 9 and still not be able to get through until everything's taken!

3) I know the Memories package doesn't include filming, so I was wondering if I'd be able to hire an outside videographer to film the ceremony while still having a Disney photographer take pictures? I know you can have an outside photographer but I was wondering if the rules were still the same for videotaping. I would still want the Disney photgrapher because I'd want my videographer to be able to focus solely on filming and still have someone taking pictures.

4) I really want to be able to have dinner with my husband (by then!) and maid of honor and best man at Cinderella's castle, but I'm worried about not being able to get reservations, since i can't even book my wedding until the 6 month mark. Is there any sort of "fast track" or "shortcut" you can get to make sure you get reservations if you're getting married at disney? I know I wouldn't be able to wear my gown or anything, so I'd just change before we went, but I'm just wondering how tough of a time I will have getting in there.

5) And finally, I've seen on other forums that people have talked about ordering a cake seperately for private dining if their package didn't have one, so if anyone could tell me more about that I'd be so grateful.

Any answers are greatly appreciated and would put my mind at ease! Thank you!

Congratulations on your engagement!

1) Firstly, of course, did you have to wait and book at 6 months to the day or is it just the first business day at the 6 months away month?

They don't answer the phones on weekends, so if your date is a Saturday or Sunday you'll have to wait til Monday to call. But you can start calling them about a month before to let them know you're interested and get "penciled in."

Do not worry about this. Memories is not such a popular package that there's fierce competition for dates, and you're so flexible already that you will have no problem getting something. :goodvibes

3) I know the Memories package doesn't include filming, so I was wondering if I'd be able to hire an outside videographer to film the ceremony while still having a Disney photographer take pictures?

Yes.

4) I really want to be able to have dinner with my husband (by then!) and maid of honor and best man at Cinderella's castle, but I'm worried about not being able to get reservations, since i can't even book my wedding until the 6 month mark. Again, I don't think you'll have any trouble getting your Memories date, so go ahead and make your CRT reservation as soon as your reservation window opens.

5) And finally, I've seen on other forums that people have talked about ordering a cake seperately for private dining if their package didn't have one, so if anyone could tell me more about that I'd be so grateful.

Yes, you can have Disney make you a cake for delivery to CRT or your room. I have complete details here and specific contact info for Magic Kingdom cakes here.

When you call or email the Magic Kingdom, they will tell you that they only have a few standard options. That's when you tell them that you want something fancy and custom and need to speak with the Contemporary Resort pastry team about your request. (You used to be able to call the Contemporary first, but now there's this silly extra layer of runaround to get through.)

Happy planning!

thank you! Thank you so much! you have eased so many fears of mine and given me so much useful information- I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions!

In relation to the first question, do you mean that if my first date to book was, say, August 3, that I could call around July 3 and let them know I'm interested come August?
