Hi All

After lurking on her for quite some time, we finally booked our own wedding. Hopefully all the wonderful tips and ideas all you other brides have posted will come in handy and leave us less stressed at organising everything.

Our Story

So here is a bit of background on us - hopefully it wont bore you. My name is Leanne. I'm 32 and a freelance Graphic Designer. My other half is called Andrew (andy as he likes to be called), He's 34 and a Senior Technical Analyst. We have been together for eight years. We meet at work when at the time andy had been assigned to help support our computers if they ever went wrong. At that particular time we were both in other relationships. Well andy was called out to fix my computer, (he didnt leave a very good impression with me and i ended up calling him an idiot to my boss). He did come back and one thing lead to another and we became good friends. Eventually both our relationships broke down and we started dating. Unfortunately for us my ex boyfriend didn't like the idea of us dating and turned up at our work place just as we were going out to lunch one day. He didnt like us being together so he decided to try and damage my car (dont ask me why). To cut a long story short after men being men and the shouting and scream at each other, i gave andy my key's to move the car and my ex decided in his wisdom to push me at the moving car. I ended up breaking my toe and tearing my ligaments and ruining my best shoes which i was not happy about.

At the time andy and I lived opposite ends of the town so we decided for me to move in with him to make it easy for us while i was in plaster and here i have remained ever since. Now eight years later and two kids and a dog we are a happy family and have never looked back.

Heres a pic of us at andys sisters wedding last year

The propose

We went with some friends to see Robbie williams in concert one weekend, we had a lovely day, shopping then going out for a meal. Then it came to the concert in the evening. Everything was going well and we were singing away. I had know idea he was going to propose. He waited till Robbie began to sing 'angels' then he turned to me and asked me to marry him - Angels has a special meaning to me as when we had my little girl she was premature by 8 weeks. She was born 3lb 6oz. For some reason when ever we played the song she use to love it and it always seemed to relax her and she would fall to sleep. You can imagine how many times i had to sing that song when she was a baby. Anyway whenever i hear that song I remember all the nights i sat up with her croaking out that song.

Well the story didn't bore me...I have to say sorry about your shoes...but at least we have another disbride....lol....btw thanks for the logo...I have not to start my own PJ and one fo the first things I was going to do was thank you, but now that you have your own PJ...I can thank in you PJ person....THANK YOU!!!

Just another update - we're still waiting on disney sending our contract and assigning us a planner, seems to be taking ages to come through, so not much to report there.

In the meantime I decided to start looking for my dress as we cant really do much else till disney come back to us. Now wedding dress shopping is an experience i'm glad i don't have to do on a regular basis. Its a minefield - Originally i had in my head that i wanted the princess dress (if your doing disney then you want to be a princess) Well after trying on loads of the princess dress styles on, we came to the conclusion it just doesn't look right on me. Think its because i'm too small to carry it off as i am only 5ft 2. So then we decide to try a 'a line' style which was better but still nothing jumped out at me. After hearing from previous brides you know the dress when you see it i was losing hope.

After not having much look at the first couple of shops i rang a shop called stately brides in Belper and the lady there was fantastic. She really made you feel special and couldn't do enough for you where as my experience with some of the other wedding shops were a bit of a disappointment - they seem to just yank you in them and it just felt a bit in-personal. It's really hard to describe but from my experience most of the shops i went to didn't make you feel special, i just didn't feel like a bride to be.

We went to one shop and the owner there obviously didn't want to be bothered as she was quite rude and didn't like us asking questions - we ended up walking out as i decided i just wouldn't give them the business even if i did see anything there.

So after going to this lovely shop in Belper, The owner also called Leanne made me try on a dress which when we originally looked at on the rail. I sort of dismissed it as i thought it was a bit plain. Once i got it on i new straight away it was the one. It fitted me perfect apart from the length. So between now and may i can not put any weight on or it wont fit as it now fits like a glove. Its a Justin Alexander dress. Its very plain on top but at the bottom and the back of it has loads of little crystals on which sparkle when the light hits them.

Leanne put me the veil and Jewellery on to show me the effect and straight away i felt like a princess. My mum and friend were nearly in tears. Bless them!

So i have now bought a veil that goes with it which we decided to go with a long veil rather than the short. That to has crystals all over it.

Here a few pics of the dress.

I'll try and post a pic of me in the dress. My friend did take one but she it came out in video format and not as a straight forward pic.

I did still trawl round another 10 wedding shops just to make sure - but i knew in my heart that this was the one and i just ended up comparing them to it.

Here's me in the dress - Sorry its not a very good picture, but it gives you an idea.

I loved reading your story. I can't wait to hear about all your plans. The proposal was so sweet. The ring is beautiful as well as your dress. People always told me you will know the dress when you put it on. That always sounded funny to me, but was so true when I put my dress on.

Congrats and I can't wait to hear more. popcorn::

Hi and welcome! Congratulations on your engagement - you'll be getting married a week before me! I also wanted to say I LOVE your dress, it's one of the prettiest ones I've seen on here. Very princess-y. Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

everything looks wonderful! sorry its taking so long to get off the ground..soon enough im sure youll want to turn back the clock a bit. LOOOVE your gown, it is absolutely positively gorgeous! cant wait to read more!

Thanks ladies got the dress at a bargain of a price. The lady asked me if i wanted the one in the shop or she could order one. Well after making sure there was nothing wrong with it and no marks (its in brand new condition - no dirty or anything) she let me have it at half price which was £600. Couldn't see why i should pay £1200 just for one thats no different.

Just a little update to tell you all that today we are official booked in and theirs no backing out now. After checking our post for the last three weeks with initial excitment only for disappointment to set in when the postie never brought my contract from disney, i decided to email kristi as we still hadn't had anything. Kristi was really appologetic - apparently disney have had a few computer problems which is why we never got it. She sent it over straight away and we've now signed and sent back the deposit form so were $1000 lighter in our account. Just now waiting for our planning pack and for a wedding planer to be assigned.

Things are starting to seem more real and getting exciting.

Im happy to hear you signed the contract. I know how excited I was to sign, but not happy to dish out the money
