Whispers of a new DVC resort at Disney World. No offical confirmation from Disney, but I guess this was leaked online somehow this morning.

========================================
DISNEY VACATION CLUB CALIFORNIA COAST HOTEL – ORLANDO, FLORIDA

Disney Vacation Club decided to extend its hotel experience with their new California Coast Resort at H1, Lake Buena Vista, Orlando, Florida. George Coon was invited by the DVC Design Team to work under the direct supervision of GSB Architects, and Mr. Wing Chao, providing design direction for this next and possibly best of the DVC properties in Orlando. California’s remarkable coast offers an experience of recognizable icons which were chosen to be represented in separate hotel experiences including; Venice Beach, Casa del Mar, Montage, the Balboa Pavilion, Laguna Hills, Newport Beach, and Santa Barbara. The project is presently in the Schematic Design Phase.

COMPLETION DATE: Estimated 2012
SIZE: Estimated 1,208 units

Good scoop! :thumbsup2

Now lets all speculate on where H1 is.

There has been talk of building a resort in that area for a while now, so I'm not too surprised by this. I'm glad it's a DVC resort being built. It's amazing how well DVC is doing; even when the economy was at it's lowest point, DVC had three resorts under construction.

I think the 2012 estimated completion date is a little bit of wishful thinking though, especially if it's only in the schematic phase.

Now lets all speculate on where H1 is.

Speculation is that H1 is across from Coronado Springs, near DHS.

I thought 2012 was even more than wishful thinking.

I'm not sure about the theme? California? :confused3

Yes that's what I thought too, that the area is between DHS and CSR.

I agree, it's even more than wishful thinking. What is the next step above wishful thinking? Fantastical thinking? :confused3:lmao:

I wasn't sure about it at first either, but then if you think about it, the themeing of so many WDW resorts already cover U.S. geography, and California is one that hasn't been done. Of course the Grand Floridian is modeled after a California hotel. it's called the Grand Floridian. Ok, now I'm really confused. :confused3:)

Not thrilled with that location. But, across from CSR isn't quite the same as near DHS because World Drive is between them. I could see if they wanted to put this near DHS (say the area to the west of ToT) in which case a California theme would fit nicely with the whole area. But once you cross World Drive, you lose that tie-in.

Just looked at a map of the area and I see that the land near the studio is pretty much already used, mostly with back-stage stuff. Unless they were going to move a lot of people elsewhere, this area isn't going to work well.

The area across World Drive, between there and CSR, is a pretty good size plot so that seems likely.

Yes, but they have a park in California. I don't know, I think they could have gotten more creative with the theme.

Although...like Jeff said, it would fit in nicely if it's near DHS, but I think it'll also make more people think they don't need to go to California/Disneyland.

Would love to see a new DVC on Disney World property. More choice is always good. Not sure how I feel about the California theme though.

Does anyone think H1 is a reference to California Highway 1? :rolleyes1

Ohhhhhhh, never would have thought of that on my own....but now that you mention it....

I posted in the News and Rumors section this morning on this.

Someone pointed out that neither the referenced location or the more recently rumored River Country location are in Lake Buena Vista, but are in Bay Lake...

I am not sure put isn;t the size 1,200 units almost double okw and ssr

There is something like 760 units at OKW and 840 units at SSR so this is indeed a very large venture.

That's another thing...I think SSR might barely fit within that area they mentioned - but it would be snug. So unless they increase number of units per building (build taller?), or they aren't counting the same way (counting lockoffs as two units?), it's seeming less and less likely to be true.

Another site had this last week. There was speculation that this was an old document because one of the names listed died several years ago.

Well that's interesting. And actually makes sense. I couldn't imagine how they would open a resort in 2012 and I was also surprised it would be going up the same time as the new Animation resort and Aulani.

The area around the old River Country water park. Work has been going on over there according to the snoops, errr, spies, I mean guests staying at Ft. Wilderness. :rotfl2:

SOMETHING is going to happen at River Country.

H1 would be interesting since it is near the Fort, WL, GF, etc.

Later,
Dan
