Le Cellier versus "high end" steakhouses? updates?

I basically agree with goofy4prez, but will also say that I've had the strip steak at both LC and Yachtsman and Yachtsman was much better. The strip at LC (which we just had two weeks ago) was thin, dense and dry. We also had the filet at LC recently and while it was good, it was no match for the filet that we had at Shula's in January. So much for LC's signature status.

The ambience at Le Cellier is enough to put me off eating there. It is dark and dreary and the tables are far too close together. Tolerable, I suppose, when it was a 1TS meal -- inexcusable if one is spending 2TS credits.

Yachtsman Steakhouse used to be terrific, but not since the advent of the dining plan. There are very few menu choices anymore and they have removed our favorite entre-- chateaubriand for two -- from the menu.

So, for us, if we want steak we go to Shula's. End of story.

I hate to say it, but if I want a really great steak, and a really great dining experience....I would go elsewhere other than Disney property. We've done Shula's and I did not find it on par with Ruth Chris or Morton's......but my biggest complaint was the service. The waitstaff was rude when we saw them at all.

I'm not a big LC fan - the steaks are, at best, average. I am not at all impressed with our local Outback, so I would put LC above that, but LC is not nearly as good as the Saltgrass Steakhouse chain we have locally....and it is just that, a casual-dining chain establishment.

Service has always been great for us at LC....and I agree with the PP about the maple creme brulee.

LC was good when we last ate there but I would not put it on the same level as Mortons, etc. I have not eaten at Shula's at WDW but have eaten at one here in Houston and thought it was much better than LC. It is somewhat disappointing that LC is not better because we lived in Calgary for a while when I was moved there for work. As far as I am concerned when everything else is taken out of the equation other than the main course, which is steak I have never eaten anything better than steak at Ceasar's on Fourth Ave in Calgary. I don't even know if it's still there but can assure you that if LC got that beef in Florida and cooked it right there would be no better steak in Florida than that.

Ruths' Chris is my favorite steak house, bar none. The Palm always comes in second. Regarding Shula's and I've eatern at a Shula's probably 12 times, the Original Shula's (Miami Lakes) has ALWAYS been on a par with Ruths', The Palm, etc. but the others I've been to, Orlando, Manhattan, Tampa have never been as good and rate a slight, tiny notch below the premiere steakhouse's but still easily within hailing distance.

The difference between Shula's and Ycthsman and LC isn't even within hailing distance.

yes this has been discussed before, and yes i used the "search" feature to read through the previous threads ... but just wanted to know if anything has changed.

How do you compare Le Cellier steaks to something like Ruths Chris, Morton's, etc. Previous threads have said they do not compare, but have things changed? At least from 2008, I believe they may have changed their menu, plus with DDP, etc ... and now they are still as popular as ever.

any steak afficionados who have dined at Le Cellier recently? We managed to get a 4:25pm ADR for this August, and as fan of good steak, I'm looking for that buttery, melt in your mouth steak? (will I be disappointed?)

We always like Le Cellier. I really enjoyed their Filet but don't think we'll go back since they made it a signature (double billed on DDP).
