hi all,

yes this has been discussed before, and yes i used the "search" feature to read through the previous threads :) ... but just wanted to know if anything has changed.

How do you compare Le Cellier steaks to something like Ruths Chris, Morton's, etc. Previous threads have said they do not compare, but have things changed? At least from 2008, I believe they may have changed their menu, plus with DDP, etc ... and now they are still as popular as ever.

any steak afficionados who have dined at Le Cellier recently? We managed to get a 4:25pm ADR for this August, and as fan of good steak, I'm looking for that buttery, melt in your mouth steak? (will I be disappointed?)

The only thing in the same ballpark as Ruth's Chris at WDW is Shula's. LeCellier is decent, but nowhere near the high end steakhouses. :earsboy:

We are trying Shula's for the first time this summer, but the past 4 years we have eaten at Le Cellier. My dad goes to Morton's here quite a bit for work, and he said the Mushroom Filet at Le Cellier is on par with the small filet at Morton's. I have always thought it was delicious, whether I got the Sirloin w/ Bercy butter, or the Mushroom Filet with risotto. I would recommend the filet.

It isn't hard for filet mignon to be good anywhere, I mean filet is filet and there should seldom be a bad one.. It's the other cuts, the ny strip, the porterhouse and the rib eye where the tale is told. Le Cellier is on a par with Outback and a LONG way from Ruths' Chris.

If your idea of Outback is disgusting pieces of meat, then I would say LC lunch is on par with Outback, but dinner is better.

And no, I don't think LC is on par with Ruth's Chris, but I don't think yachtsman is either. And anything, including Outback, beats our experience at Morton's.

I think Outback is just fine. I actually like it just fine (for what it is) but it's beef is not anywhere near the quality of the Ruths', Morton's or Shula's (who serve prime beef or the Shula cut vs choice beef).

As Micca said, nothing on property is CLOSE to Shula's, LC, IMO is close to Outback.

We ate at Le Cellier at lunch two weeks ago. I had the filet and dh had the New York Strip. We both agreed it was better than Ouback but not as good as Ruth's Chris. If you have a Stoney River, it was on par with that.

We had dinner at LC October last year. It was very good but, as others have said, it's better than Outback but not really close to RC. The kids loved them the mac n cheese. DD said it was better than Chefs de France.

If you want a good steak go to shulas at the dolphin. You can get to it through the world showcase at epcot.

We like both, but a head to head comparison - Shula wins hands down.

LeCellier pros - get sides, Mushroom Risotto (not a true Risotto but YUMMY)

Shula pros - STEAK all are aged and WONDERFUL, atmosphere - too dark for some, but much quieter and relaxing

Price is comparable for the Filets

Yes, if this is what you want, you will be disappointed. I had the New York strip, it had no flavor and was well done when I ordered medium. Was not a mistake as we tried the restaurant 2 times after thinking it must have been an off night and they still couldn't get it medium.

I ditto others.
It's better than outback but a long way from any fine steak house.

If you read the majority of reviews here, you will find that most people rave about the cheddar soup and the risotta which are very delish. The problem is, imo that I go to a steakhouse not for the soup but for the steak.

Head to Shulas.

P.S. I have not been since it switched over to a signature dining meal so hopefully for 2 ts credits it's gotten better.

We must have a really good Outback in Islamorada because my impression of it is far more favorable than most (but it is always pretty good) and you all know my steak standards are not generally low.:lmao:

Eating steak at le cellier would be no different than letting my DS11 season it and cook it for me while blindfolded. it was a horrible steak. Tasteless and fatty and not cooked to my liking. Just my honest opinion!

I would says steaks are good but not great. Risotto, cheese soup, preztel breadsticks, and maple creme brulee are worth the trip.

I'm not going to get on here and say that Le Cellier is terrible, because it's not. However, it is no where even remotely close to a Ruth's Chris, Morton's, or Shula's. IMHO, I would rate LC slightly above an Outback or Longhorns, which would be average to just slightly above average. To me a terrible steak is Ponderosa or a Golden Corral, that is terrible.

As long as LC (or any other place) uses choice meats, whether it's Canadian AAA or USDA Choice (same quality), it will not measure up to the finer steakhouses. Sure LC has a steak offering Prime, but Ruth's Chris and other top steak houses will not offer choice, only Prime. Until LC only offers prime, In my opinion will fail to be worthy of a signature at WDW; at least when it comes to the steak entrees. :goodvibes

Not even Yachtsman uses prime meat (except for the strip, which is just like Le Cellier). So by that logic Yachtsman isn't worthy of being a signature either, at least when it comes to steak, which is also its specialty.

Since this was taken out of context let me post the first sentence of what I posted below.

The topic was Le Cellier, which is why I did not take the time to mention other places I don't believe are worth a signature status which does include Yachtsman Steakhouse. While I like Yachtsman much better than LC, I agree, it is not signature worthy and is nowhere close to the steaks offered at top steakhouses including Shula's, which I did mention in another thread.
