Le Cellier for Canadians?

Does Le Cellier restaurant really live up to the hype? With all the good steak places (especially out west) do other Canadians find this place to be the best as others seem to. We are going in Sept. and it has 25 years since I've been to WDW and the first for the rest of the clan. Thanks for the help.

We ate there twice in the same trip because our meal was so good...the steak was delicious but that was a few years ago so it's possible it may have gone downhill a little like many restaurants do. I read often on these boards that it's good but nothing special. I think part of the hype is when you are on the dining plan it is such good value to be able to order a steak dinner for 1 credit that it became popular to the point where people want to go there just because it's a challenge to get a reservation. All that said, we are eating there again in August so I hope it's as good as it was for us before.

I have never been, but other family members say it lives up to the hype.

It may be no better than your favourite local steakhouse, but considering what typical Disney fare is like, its one of the best there.

AS a note, my brother and his tween kids loved Chefs of France, and they're bot that adventerous.

Each time I make a trip to Disney World, this is a "Must do" restaurant. I have eaten here twice and loved it both times. First trip I had the filet mignon, the second was the 14 oz sirloin. No! I did not eat it all! I ate maybe 1/4 of it but oh my.... it was delicious! The mushroom risotto is to die for and the cheddar cheese soup is also worth a try.

You can't judge the place based on what others say. Everyone has their own opinion. Every restaurant has their off days, like when they have seated beyond their capacity. This happens quite frequently at Le Cellier. A walk-up is near impossible. The service is exceptionally friendly (but of course as everyone is from Canada!) and their knowledge of what's on the menu is impeccable. Please give this place a try. Yes, it is hard to get a reservation but that's only because the dining room is so small. Bon Appetit:thumbsup2

For my family, Le Cellier did not live up to the hype. We have had far better steaks in Alberta when we visit family... I can say I enjoyed my mussels whereas DH did not enjoy the cheese soup (he thought it was highly overrated). Now, we have not visited since December 2007 - so it's possible the food quality might have improved.

Our server made up for the meal... Turns out Eric was from Almonte, and I volunteer with this mother at a local charity. It was REALLY fun talking to someone who not only was from Ottawa, but Almonte in specific. We chatted plenty during our meal. When we got home, his Mom told me he called that night to say we'd met and it was "wonderful" for him to hear about the horrible weather he was missing back this way.

I really enjoyed Le Cellier about 5 years ago. The last couple of times have been okay but nothing really special. I'm from Ontario, but I'm thinking that your steakhouses in Alberta are probably better than Le Cellier. For us, dinner in Japan is the "must-do". We've also eaten at Chefs de France and were pleasantly surprised.

We try to fit at least one lunch or dinner into our trip each time we're down. We thoroughly enjoy the food and atmosphere there and would recommend it!

I agree, I think that opinions of whether or not Le Cellier is a must do are regional, based on the responses on this and other similar threads. Those in Western Canada tend to post that their steakhouses are better than Le Cellier so there's no big need to go (I'm in this camp - we have awesome steakhouses here); whereas those in Eastern Canada and the Maritimes tend to post that Le Cellier is a must do for them. Honestly, the restaurants in Japan fall into the former category for me too - we have fantastic Japanese restaurants here (due in part to their easy access to fish straight off the fishing boats). Anyway, that's my take on this question :flower3:

I've always wanted to try it simply because it is the Canada restaurant. Only because of free dining and a little ADR luck, will we try it next month!:upsidedow

After many trips, Le Cellier is also off of our list as well. It used to be DH's fav, but after 2 subpar experiences with food and service, we are letting it go for awhile. We've had much better steaks elsewhere on WDW property, as well as in other cities.

Happy eating, Tiger :)

I really like it here. I was so full. I had the mushroom filet and the cream cheese mashed potatoes I think. It was a good steak, especially for a 1 credit TS meal on the DP. And just loved the chocolate moose for desert.

As a side note on another trip I had steak at Coral Reef. I asked if they had brocolini and they said no. I saw someone with a plate of brocoli and asked if I could get some with my steak. The waiter said no. I saw someone eating brocoli and had to ask two times for a side order of brocoli b/c i wanted my green veggies. :confused3 I didn't think this was a hard request but apparently it was.

we were there in May and weren't overly impressed with it.

they first messed up our reservations and told us we were 4 hours late - they had us in for a 1pm lunch instead of a 5pm dinner even though i confirmed all our reservations 2 weeks before heading down.

then they made us wait over 30 minutes and when we got to our table the restaurant was only about half full

our waitress was on the fence to if she wanted to be pleasent or not and at times seemed annoyed that we were there.

the food was ok - nothing special or noteworthy.

I am from the West and we think Le Cellier is awesome :thumbsup2 The only reason we aren't going this time is that we are travelling as a group of 7 that would be a darned expensive meal! If hubby and i can sneak away on our own and can get a table we'll eat there this upcoming trip.

We always refused to go there just on principle of being FROM Canada. But last year we went and we just loved it. Good food and amazing "pretzel bread"... our kids ( and my 23 year old kid brother ) kept asking for more :) ...

furthermore, as a beer snob, I was quite impressed that unlike the outside offerings, they actually offered some more upscale beers inside like Unibroue, for example.

We'll hopefully be eating there in Feb. and I'll let you know. The menu looks great and it has a good reputation. That, and hanging out with other Canadians is always cool. So, we'll give it a try.

I haven't been to many real steakhouses before so I won't have much to compare it to.

I did want to say that we used their recipe and made the cheddar cheese soup at home and it was to die for. I'll see if their is as good as ours. lol

we had a mixed review.
the steaks were fabulous.
I really enjoyed the cheese soup.
the desserts were pretty good.

for us, the service seemed rushed.

but the biggest complaints for us were that it was exceptionally dark inside, which caused problems with my dh's eyesight. and that the tables are far too close together.

and that the tables are far too close together.

Interesting - I'm happy to see someone else noticed this too. Over the last couple of years, DH and I have commented on the fact certain high profile/high request restaurants have been cramming in the tables. Le Cellier seems to be one of those restaurants...

oh i noticed that too - both there and rose and crown i watched while people appologised for sticking their bums in others laps trying to get in or out of seats.

self included at rose and crown.

We loved it at Le Cellier. The food was excellent and the staff there were amazing. It was proably our favourite meal. We will definitely go back on our next trip.

Both of our experiences were very very good. Right from the get-go while we were waiting for our table we had trivia with the other patrons in the lobby. It was quite funny to see how little people knew about Canada! Even people FROM Canada!
Our servers were gracious and the food delicious. I'm from Ontario and I can say I've had my share of good steak. The steak at Le Cellier did not disappoint. My husband loves his steak and consistently complimented his choices. On our last visit, our server seemed to take a shine to us and as we were leaving gave us a big bundle of fresh out of the oven pretzel bread to go. Unfortunately, it was about 2pm and about 40 degrees that day. Carrying it around was a chore but it was so very very thoughtful of him.
The creme brulee is the perfect end to a great meal. My kids have had the chocolate mousse and the smore and thought they were awesome.
If it's in your budget, I would recommend going. If not, the world isn't going to end if you don't get a steak on your vacation! :rotfl: (just don't tell my hubby that!)
