Just back last night from a 7 night stay...had lots of great meals...but the best suprises were the Canadian restaurant and the counter service place at Saratoga Springs...
We had 11:30 PS at Canada on 6/26 the day we arrived. We were seated quickly. We had eaten here before and to be honest, while not ever bad, it was never a great meal, but my dd (14 yr) asked to eat there the first day. We used 2 VKL vouchers (for the adults) and dd's (14 and 16) ordered sandwiches off the menu.
DH had the pan seared scallops for his appetizer and said they melted in his mouth....they were so good he almost drooled!! I had the Asian Shrimp and it was superb. 12 good sized shrimp served cold, that had been marinated in something I could never quite define, but they were wonderful. I shared with the girls and we all agreed it was worth the trip just for the shrimp. They were served in a chinese food carryout box on a wasabi slaw that had a REAL punch.
DH had the strip steak fro his entree, served with some veggies and potatoes. Said it was a very good steak prepared just as ordered. I had the shrimp and smoked salmon pasta (a new menu addition per the waiter). It was incredible. Penne pasta at least 8 huge shrimp, lots of smoked salmon chunks in an excellent sauce with red bell peppers and fresh asparagus and capers. I wanted to lick the bowl!!
One of the girls had the Dagwood sandwich and pronounced it "excellent" the other had a burger which she claimed was the best she had ever had at disney (served on an english muffin with warm potatoe salad.) They also chowed down on the pretzel breadsticks which they love!!
For dessert dd#2 ordered a frozen cappacino (she has a Starbucks frappaccino addiction) and we both agreed it was better (and richer) than the Starbucks version. DH had the fresh peach cobbler with toasted pecan icecream (to die for) and I had the maple creme brulee (both bites I got to eat before dd#1 who was "too full for dessert" nabbed it away from me was excellent).
The bill for the adult portion (covered by the VKL vouchers was $92 before tip, so we did well...paid $65 for the 2 vouchers) Girls bill was right at $22 before tip.
It was a truely excellent mel, great service and a very cool, quiet and laid back atmosphere...the perfect break in the day and I think the best meal of the week.
Another day we ventured over to Saratoga Springs about 5PM to see the new resort (we are DVC'ers) and decided to eat at Artisits Palatte. The place was completely empty the entire time we were there. The atmosphere was light and the blown glass fixtures are TOO cool. DD#2 and I each got a flatbread (1 of the BBQ pork and 1 of the chicken, spinach and artichoke) she got a side of mac and cheese, I had the corn chowder, we got 2 soft drinks and she had the chocolate peanut butter cake and I had the key lime pie. We used 2 Q&C vouchers (cost $23) and the bill was $36 so we came out about $13 ahead. The flat breads and desserts were about the best counter service foods we have had at WDW. DD liked the BBQ best which was fortunate because I was in LOVE with the chicken, spinach and artichoke. I will have to go back just for that item!!
Although the food was a definite cut abpve the usual counter service places I though $36 was a bit pricey for 2 counter service meals....the vouchers made it a good value, but I think even by disney standards it was over priced, but great food!!
