My wife and I are flying into California in July and I was wondering the pros and cons for LAX vs Long Beach Airport.

LAX has far more options. But for me I look at the whole picture and often that's cost and flight availability. LAX has every airport in the area beat on that.

But really the best airport in the area for convenience is Orange County Airport.

We flew Charlotte, NC to LAX in October and honestly, I didn't think LAX was bad at all. I wanted a nonstop flight and didn't want to spend the same on my flight as I did for my hotel and park tickets. A little different coming from across the country, but Long Beach and John Wayne were much more expensive for me and very rarely had any nonstop flights. The Uber was longer, but we still saved a few hundred. I thought the Uber pick up and drop off was easy, our luggage was there within a few minutes of getting to baggage claim, and security for the flight home went quickly. Charlotte was the nightmare 😂

Long Beach is small, easy to navigate, and close to Disneyland. LAX is huge and farther away so you will have a much longer ride to DLR. At LB it’s super easy to get luggage and find your rideshare/rental/shuttle. LB has fewer flight options, so the downside is if your flight gets canceled you can end up stuck.

I only fly into Long Beach or Orange County because they’re so much closer to DLR.

Comparing any airport to LAX is easy. All other airports in SoCal are better. Period. Stop. End.

The q is if you can afford the other airports in your vacay budget.

I have often found that flights on Southwest are less expensive out of Long Beach than LAX, just not as many choices. It is such an easy airport. My bags are on the carousel by the time I get there. Definitely my preference over LAX or SNA. I also like Ontario which is closer to my home in Fullerton.
