LAX Rental Cars

Hi!

Does anyone have any reccomendations on the best deals/most convenient location of rental car companies at LAX? Coupons/Specials, etc. I am assuming it would be best to deal with a rental car company located within the airport. Never been, but I understand LAX is huge!

I have yet to find a good deal on a car out of LAX. I think there are a lot of airport surcharges on rental cars there. I'd be interested to hear other's experiences, especially if you've rented a car at LAX, kept it for a few days, and then returned it somewhere very near DL.

i had a bad experience at Budget out of LAX. Got a good price on Hotwire, but it took over 2 hours of standing in line to get the car. It was a Saturday in July and the place was a madhouse. I'll never rent from there again.

I used Hotwire and got what we felt was a good price. You accept the price and after that you are shown the company, and I got Avis. If you read Hotwire's info they tell you what companies they use...and I also checked the LAX website in the transportation section; if I recall correctly they gave a good explanation of where exactly to go (all or most of the LAX rental car companies are actually a shuttle ride away).

We ended up in a really cute Chevy HHR that we are now drooling over, LOL...and that was a step above what we paid for. I wish they would have provided us with directions back to their lot...we got a little lost and it didn't feel like the best neighborhood, so be sure to get written info on how to get back.

Strangely enough we have found that it is cheaper (for us) to book car rental though the disney package than if we just did it separately. We got a great deal through Alamo.

We've used Priceline's "name your own price" two times, and were given National and Alamo out of LAX. It's best to start about 2 weeks before your trip to get the best price (when doing name your own price).

We will use them again next month, and I will start trying a few weeks from now for a rental van.
