It would be great if they temporarily override the rule that requires a foreign port. We had a great time on our little 2-night cruise to nowhere on the Magic. It was the first season she sailed from NYC. I took a Friday off work and returned Sunday. Sure it's really short but it was way better than my usual weekend of housework and laundry. Living in South Jersey, it was an easy drive to Hamilton Station, then train to NYC that morning with a small carry on bag. Taxi to the port in less than 15 mins. Also it was another opportunity to book a placeholder/dummy date.
I'd love to know if the bridge could tell that probably 99% of the passengers were all on the starboard side of the ship as we sailed past the Statue of Liberty. It was just ds19 with me; he was 12 at the time. Dh and my older ds thought it was "silly" to take only a 2-night cruise.
I guess some of us are silly. I would so do that again.
Two weeks later, all 4 of us drove to SoL, toured the area, and stayed until the Magic sailed past us. Great pics from both points of view!
