Laurs & Andy do the Universe and the World Day Seven
Me Laurs 27
DH Andy 28
Day seven 27 September 2006 you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave
It was Andys turn to choose the wake up call for our last morning in the HRH, and he chose Chad Smith from his favourite band, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Chad was funny and talked over Rollercoaster. Im still disappointed that we didnt start booking wake up calls earlier so that I could have had Simple Plan as well. Oh well, theres always next time
We were up and in the concierge lounge for breakfast at 9 am. I had froot loops and Andy had rice krispies and we shared some toast and jam, realising how much we were going to miss this place.
We packed up our stuff and left the HRH around 10.20 am. As we were making our way downstairs to leave the song Hotel California came on how appropriate. You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.
Much as I was excited to be going to Disney, I love the HRH (mentioned that before, have I?) and I waved and cried until we were well out of sight.
We arrived at the Animal Kingdom Lodge at 11.15 am. We had to wait in the check in line for quite a while, and they had a couple of members of staff just walking up and down the line talking to guests. Andy wondered why they couldnt get behind a desk and start checking people in instead, I had to agree with him. Anyway, when we finally get there we are assigned a room on the Zebra trail. I was quite amazed that we didnt have to go outside to get to the room!
We dumped the cases in our room and had a quick look around. I was totally impressed that one of the bathroom amenities was hand cream! We also had a fridge and coffeemaker which was an advantage. We had a quick look out on to the savannah, but there was nothing to see at this time.
We left again about noon and set out to the Florida Mall, arriving at 12.30 pm. We went straight to the food court to get some lunch, and shared a turkey croissant, tuna wrap and a sprite.
Fully refreshed, our first stop was Hot Topic, I love this shop. I bought some red sparkly nail polish with a skull on the front, very cool. Next we went to the Yankee Candle shop and I got a Splash of Rain candle, and a Christmas Eve tart (cant wait until its time to burn that but my trick or treat candle is yummy too!)
We went to Macys and I got a Clinique eye pencil and then back to Hot Topic because I decided I wanted to try a dress I had seen. I decided to get it. It is grey and black striped and very cute, and if you have seen my Halloween party meet pic, that is the dress.
I was still suffering with the dizziness and sickness, so we left the mall and Andy took me to a Walgreens so that I could see the pharmacist. She agreed with my mums assessment and told me it sounded like stress, and that I should try to relax. When I texted my mum to tell her, she suggested Andy should carry me around, but he somehow wasnt too keen on that idea ..
I felt much better from being told there was nothing wrong with me, so we carried on with our shopping trip and went for our first ever visit to Walmart. We bought some beer for Andy, fuzzy navel alcopop things for me, apple juice, diet coke, Hersheys candy covered kisses for me and loaded jacket flavoured pringles (I hope they bring these out over here as they are super nice). I couldnt believe how cheap it was the whole lot came to about £8. Now I know why people rave about this place!
We decided to finish our shopping day with a trip to our usual mall, Premium Outlets. We went to Fuzziwigs so that I could look at Hello Kitty stuff and we both got an ice cream, and Andy got some razzles. Andy had a mint choc chip ice cream and I had a Superman ice cream which was blue, yellow and red I have no idea what flavour it was meant to be but it tasted nice.
We had a look round the other shops but didnt buy anything else, and we made our way back to the AKL, arriving back about 7 pm. Since we arrived at the AKL that morning, Andy realised that he had misplaced his glasses, and we spent the next hour looking for them to no avail. We were both really cross about this, but the magic soon came back when we saw a giraffe from our balcony! I was totally mesmerised, I really thought we wouldnt get to see much from our room, it was amazing. We saw the giraffes every day during our stay, we also had a crane and several hornbills who slept by our room every night, and on a couple of occasions, an Ankole cattle slept directly under our room. We also saw bongos and Thompsons gazelles but strangely no zebra!
We were both tired and crochety by now so we had quick showers and then headed down to the food court, The Mara, for some tea. I had chicken strips and fries, and Andy had a bacon double cheeseburger and fries, and we both had a sprite.
After tea we wandered around the resort to familiarise ourselves with everything. They had cast members out with night vision goggles so that guests could see out on to the savannah in the dark. We queued up for a turn, and it was truly incredible, I wouldnt have believed you could see so much.
We went back to our room after this and Andy had a beer and I had a fuzzy navel and then we made it into bed by about 11.45 pm.
No photos today, so here is one from earlier in the week.
