Laur’s & Andy do the Universe and the World – Day Fifteen

Me – Laur’s – 27
DH – Andy – 28

Day fifteen – 5 October 2006 – Follow the yellow brick road

Mickey and Stitch wake us up for the last time this holiday at 7.55 am. We had a cup of coffee and then Andy brought us our usual breakfast of froot loops, frosted flakes and a croissant. We finished our packing and waved a sad goodbye to the AKL. Not sure that the budget will stretch to this again, but felt so lucky that we could stay here one time though.

We set out to do the Downtown Disney check in at 10 am. This used to be free if you were flying Premium Economy but there is now a $5 charge per person. I still think it’s worth the money to not have to trail your cases everywhere with you.

We head off to our traditional last day park, MGM, or whatever it is called now, arriving there at 11.20 am. We had our first and last ride of the holiday on the Great Movie Ride, we are both a bit fed up of having the gangster version every time, but I realised I had missed it this time. As usual I was the only person who told the CM to follow the yellow brick road – maybe this attraction is getting dated.

As we were walking past Star Tours, we saw that Darth Vader and one of his Storm Troopers were out for pictures. Andy is a big fan of the Storm Troopers, and luckily we got a picture almost straight away as most people were queuing for Darth Vader.

After this meeting with the stars, we went for some lunch in Pizza Planet. We both had a pepperoni pizza and diet coke. Fed and watered, we headed to catch a showing of MuppetVision 3D, and then another of my favourites, Star Tours. We bid a tearful farewell to MGM at 2.45 pm and headed off to the airport.

After dropping the car back, we got to the airport only to discover that our flight had been delayed until 7.15 pm, about an hour delay. This is the first time we have had any sort of delay flying with Virgin. We go through Passport Control as late as possible so that we can fit in a few more cigarettes and then go and look round the duty free shop. I get a Britney Spears Fantasy perfume and lipgloss wand which will be handy for travelling (and is also super cute). We also manage to scrabble together enough cents for a packet of Miss Vickie salt and vinegar crisps (much nicer than the plain ones sold in the parks).

We board the plane and settle into the plane routine of pretzels, diet coke and beer. Tea doesn’t take long to come round, and we have barbecue beef with mashed potato and red onion, carrots and broccoli, caesar salad, a bread bun, cheese and crackers, key lime pie (sob!) and a mint. We watched RV, though I gave up about half way through because I thought it was so disgusting. I have decided that the title letters must really stand for Really Vile. After this experience, I entertained myself with much safer programmes – Fairly Odd Parents, Max and Paddy and Little Britain. Eventually found some music I liked on the headphones, and let Jimi Hendrix sing me to sleep.

Woke up for breakfast, and finally landing back at Manchester, sleepy but not quite as cold as we imagined. We have a whole year to wait until our next trip but I’m pretty sure I’ll find some planning to do to keep me entertained in the meantime.

Thank you all for sharing in my reports with me, and for all your lovely comments.
