Laur’s, Andy and bump do LA and Vegas, baby – Day 3
Laur’s – 29
Andy – 29
Bump – 13 weeks
Sunday 23 March 2008
We were up at 8 am and, as we were checking out today, we decided to forego breakfast until we arrived at Seaworld, so we just got a tea and coffee from MaryJanes and finished packing up. We checked out at 9.30 am and set off for Seaworld, arriving at 10 am.
By this time bump was pulling on the cord (that's what Andy calls it when I am really hungry!) so we headed to the hospitality center for some breakfast. We each had a sunrise breakfast which consisted of a sausage and scrambled egg sandwich, home fries (wedges), watermelon and orange juice. Sounds nice but the sausage was rank so I didn't eat much of that.
After breakfast we headed to Wild Arctic - obviously we were walking passengers as the ride would have been too much for bump. We saw beluga whales, polar bears and a walrus. We spent quite a while in here watching the animals and thought this exhibit was better than its counterpart in Orlando.
Next we checked out Penguin Encounter, my very favourite one, and this was improved on from Orlando in that it had a seating area. When I have spent ages sitting in here in Orlando waiting for Andy to ride Kraken, I have often ended up sitting on the floor, so this was a nice addition. There is also a penguin area outside for warmer weather penguins.
There were several aquariums, another nice addition, and we looked in the freshwater one next. Then it was on to the 4D movie Sesame St presents Lights, Camera, Imagination. The preshow film is shown on a screen outside the theatre and goes on for a while which isn't ideal as it was really hot and so bright that looking at the screen was near impossible. When we eventually got in the theatre though, the show was really cute, I'm sure kids would love it. In one scene it rains - really hard on your head! None of the usual 3D movie spray here!
We bought a Wild Cherry Pepsi (yum, why don't we have this?!) and toured the Aquarium de lar Mer, World of the Sea aquarium, the tide pool, turtles, dolphins and otters.
We bought some crisps - BBQ Lays for Andy and nacho cheese doritos for me - and ate them whilst waiting for the dolphin discovery show to start. As I remember it, the show was very similar to the old dolphin show at Seaworld Orlando.
We did some shopping - I bought a manatee nail file for a friend and an Elmo (so cute) for me, plus some sweeties for our travels. We had another look round Wild Arctic - until I could no longer stand to watch the walrus regurgitating fish (eurgh) and then headed back to the Penguin Encounter to watch them for a while. I also got a pair of penguin earrings in the shop there.
We had pretty much seen everything so we decided to head out of the park. (To anyone who might be interested, there is the Journey to Atlantis ride and a rapids ride, but no Kraken). We stopped at the entrance to the park to buy water, cotton candy and m & m ice cream cookie sandwiches, which we sat and ate before leaving.
We left Seaworld for Hollywood at 4.50 pm. On the two hour drive I read, played on my DS and ate cotton candy. We arrived at the Magic Castle hotel at 6.50 pm. At check in we were given glasses of real lemonade which was delicious, and told about their free mini bar - they had all manner of soda, crisps, chocolate and candy behind the check in desk - anything you wanted you just had to ask! Now that's my idea of a hotel.
We checked out the room, had showers and headed out to Dennys for tea at 8.15 pm. The Dennys we went to was the kind of place that time forgot and we were wondering whether our server was cooking as well as he seemed to be the only member of staff in the place! I had a sprite and a mushroom swiss burger, and Andy had a coke and a Western burger (which we thought was funny as it is the surname of one of our friends), both with fries. The food wasn't bad considering the server cooked it…..
On the way back to the hotel we had a drive along the strip and Rodeo Drive. I managed to stay awake for this, and then fell asleep the rest of the way back. On our way up to the room we picked up some stuff from the free minibar - Fanta for me, Dr Pepper for Andy, 2 bottles of water, a kitkat and some m&ms - did I mention that it was free?!
Back in the room, there were chocolate mints on the bed for us and a card telling us the expected temperature for the next day, which was a nice touch. We drank our pop and watched TV. Andy watched a new episode of Dirt and whilst I really wanted to watch it, bump wasn't having any of it and we fell asleep. We went to bed at 11.45 pm - after Andy woke me up again, of course!
