Laur’s and Andy’s Halloween Happiness Trip Day 8

Laur’s – 28
Andy – 29

Wednesday 26 September 2007

Our wake up call went off at 8.15 am this morning and was from Mickey and Stitch, which means we are firmly back in the magic. We had a first for us this morning - a breakfast ADR. We were booked in for breakfast at the Kona Café at 9 am and we got there almost on time!

We were seated pretty quickly and started off with a glass of orange juice each whilst we chose our food. I had the eggs benedict (with ham, muffin and breakfast potatoes – or wedges, as I call them), and Andy had the huge ham and cheese omelette, which again came with wedges. The food was excellent except that the wedges were so coated with salt we could barely eat them. This was our biggest complaint about the food the whole time we were at Disney – all the fries and potatoes were so salty I spent most of the time whilst eating them wiping the salt off. They may have got rid of trans fats (whatever they are) but they have more than made up for that with the addition of all the extra salt.

After breakfast we went back to the room to pick up our IDs as we had noticed the previous day that boats were available for hire and Andy really fancied a go at driving a speedboat. We went down to the dock and hired a Searaycer for 45 minutes. We picked out lifejackets and were given a short demonstration of how to drive the boat.

We drove round Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, taking in the sights of the Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. It was sooooo much fun, and great to do something different. There was a small hitch when we strayed into a no-go area and got told off by the Disney police – but hey, everyone expects that at least once a day, yes?! We also had fun manoeuvring the boat back in as we had to hover around waiting for someone else to dock and ended up bumping the side a couple of times. We found this hilarious - the Disney police, I mean, cast member, did not.

We went back to the room to pick up our things for the park day ahead and headed out to the Magic Kingdom by boat at 12.15 pm.

We went on Buzz and the TTA, and then something unprecedented – the teacups! Andy doesn’t like spinning rides but volunteered to go on with me as I was looking at them longingly! He is so great. I said I would let him dictate the pace, and he got really into it and was spinning us really fast. He did so well and didn’t even look all that green when we came off.

Next we got a fastpass for Winnie the Pooh and then went on the new and improved Haunted Mansion. And wow, it really is improved – I love it even more than ever before. You can now see the hidden Donald a lot better, there are new paintings which change when the room goes dark and lightning flashes on them, there’s a whole room of eyes – some which move, screams when some of the doors try to open, some additions to the ballroom scene and best of all, the room of staircases leading in all directions with light up footprints going up them. Very Harry Potter. The only change we didn’t like is that Madam Leota is now wearing a strange novelty wig – it looks like a bored cast member put it on her as a joke.

We rode Small World next (well, you have to, don’t you) and then used our Pooh fastpass. By this time we were both feeling hungry, so we stopped in at Cosmic Rays for some diet coke, chicken nuggets and eclipse chips. I would not recommend the latter – they were like overcooked crisps covered in, guess what, lots of salt. Better perhaps though than something Andy saw whilst we were in there – an American woman adding sugar to her coke! Eek!

After eating we watched the parade and then headed to POTC. I bought one of those thermal mugs in the store – I had seen one in NY and wished I’d bought it ever since, so had to snap it up quick before I drove Andy any further mad about it. It is very cool and has Pirate Princess on it. It makes work that bit more bearable every day.

Next up was the Tiki Rooms (so cute) and Jungle Cruise. We were very disappointed with our skipper, she seemed so disenchanted and wasn’t at all funny.

We shared a pineapple Dole Whip and then queued to have our picture with Captain Jack Sparrow, which I believe is new. I was very disappointed with the non-existant interaction – he looked the part, but didn’t speak to me once! I came away wishing I hadn’t bothered.

After this disappointment, we took the train around the park and did some videoing on the way round.

We left the park after that at 6 pm and took a bus over to the Wilderness Lodge as we are thinking of staying here in December next year. We really liked the look of the resort, especially the amazing lobby and the hot tubs and hot springs.

We took a bus back to MK and then the monorail to the TTC, walking back to the room by 6.45 pm.

We had baths and then set out in the car to Downtown Disney at 7.50 pm.

We had decided on the House of Blues for tea tonight before we started on the dining plan tomorrow. There was a 15 minute wait to be seated, so we ordered a Bud lite for Andy and a malibu and coke for me at the bar and were seated shortly afterwards. Predictable as always I had the Elwood sandwich – cajun chicken with chillies, served with fries. Our server warned me that it was hot, and I said good, that’s what I like! Andy had the southern fried chicken with mash and carrots. After our main course we had another drink each and got a Key Lime Pie to share – possibly the best dessert ever invented.

We called into the HoB shop after our meal and bought a cool blue candle and a zip up top for me which I am so pleased with as it is the sort of thing I have been looking for, for ages now.
We also spent ages browsing around Virgin. I got a very cool Kiss t-shirt (it will appear in a photo at a later date) and we got several CDs – Foo Fighters, Gwen Stefani, Mika and Velvet Revolver. I saw a poster advertising that my favourite ever wrestler, Chris Jericho, would be in the store signing copies of his new book the following month and have had my fingers crossed for a lottery win ever since. Sadly no lottery win, so I will be ordering the book off Amazon like everyone else.

We went back to the hotel, where Andy had a Bud lite and I had one of my Bahama Mama flavoured beers! We went to bed at 12.15 am.

Laur's princess:

OK Laur's what on earth is a Bahama Mama flavoured beer :confused3 :confused3

Another great day :thumbsup2

Hehe, basically it is a Bahama Mama flavoured alcopop - for some reason they are labelled as flavoured beers! Rest assured it tastes nothing like beer!

Laur's princess:

What a wonderful day. Mark loves to hire a boat each time we go to WDW.

I got black hood zip up top when we were in the HoB shop in August. I love it but it is a bit too cold to wear it now we are heading into winter.
