Laur’s and Andy’s Halloween Happiness Trip Day 5

Laur’s – 28
Andy – 29

Sunday 23 September 2007

We woke up to 8.30 am to a very dodgy wake up call – the phone rang and then just made odd noises – I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the Simple Plan I had requested! We went down the hall to the concierge room to eat and breakfasted on cereal (froot loops for me and frosted flakes for Andy) and toast.

We took our postcards down to the pool area and started to write them sat by the adult hot tub. The heavens opened before I had finished mine and we ended up soaked by the time we had scurried under a cabana to shelter. We went inside for a bit and I finished my postcards, by which time the sun had come out again. We spent a while in the adult hot tub but it was so hot that I couldn’t bear to sit in it and the bubbles weren’t working hardly at all, so we moved over to the family one after a while.

Our stomachs were beginning to get the better of us, so we went up to the room to change and I called my mum before we headed out to Islands of Adventure.

We went to Circus McGurkus for lunch as the Green Eggs and Ham Café was closed yet again. The line was very long but we eventually got served and we shared a chicken sandwich, fries, a chocolate chip cookie and a fanta. Whilst we were eating, we noticed that the rain was back with a vengeance and many people were gathering in the doorway.

When we finished, we decided to do a bit of shop dodging to try and avoid the rain. We finally submitted to the weather and became poncho people – something we have managed to avoid in every other visit. So, we bought what I can only describe as giant condoms, and I complained the whole time we were wearing them about how ridiculous I looked! What people don’t tell you is that not only do you look like a condom head, but they are also very sweaty and uncomfortable!

We hightailed it over to the Spiderman ride in our ponchos (no, there are no pictures of me wearing it) and wound our way through the express pass queue. There are some really neat touches here that you wouldn’t see in the normal queuing area. By some magic (and we weren’t even in Disney yet) we got to go on the ride by ourselves! It was so much fun and I thought it added to the scary factor that we were on our own – plus, I got to scream as much as I wanted! And I did scream – especially as this year I managed to keep my eyes open for the virtual drop.

After our exciting ride we went to watch the Sinbad show which is under cover so not affected by the rain. I love this show, it is so funny and corny and action packed. After the show, we had a quick spin on the Caro-suess-el.

Andy wanted to try the Hulk coaster so we stashed our stuff in a locker and he went off to do that, and I went on Storm Force Acceletron. Just goes to show that different things mess with different people as Andy thought I was crazy for going on that! It is a fun ride – once I figured out how to open the door on the car that is! I am ashamed to admit I had to watch a child do it first! I got our stuff back from the locker and as I was walking back to our meeting point Andy was coming off the Hulk which he really enjoyed.

I had a bit of a headache, so we stopped for a diet coke and I took some paracetamol before we continued on our way. We decided around this time that we would skip the Popeye ride as the rain had made it feel pretty cold and neither of us fancied getting drenched. I was disappointed as it is my favourite ride in the park, but I don’t think I would have enjoyed the aftermath!

We waited around for a while to see if we could see Spidey and friends drive down the street, but it had been cancelled due to the rain, so we had another spin on his ride instead. We headed into the shop afterwards and bought a Spiderman flask for my brother, and a cup, keyring and grow your own Spiderman for Christmas for one of our friends who is mad on the web-slinging one. We also went into the main store and Andy bought a Universal Studios vest.

On the way out of the park, we were stopped and Andy was asked to do a survey – the lady who asked us said he fit all the criteria (but we don’t know what they were, hmm). Only Andy was allowed to answer the questions, but I was allowed to give comments at the end, so I told her how much I enjoyed the Sinbad show and how I think it is totally underrated. I have a feeling this will be going when Hogwarts arrives, so I didn’t think it hurt to say I appreciated it.

We walked back to the hotel and called in at the concierge room for drinks and snacks. We had some cheese and crackers, crudites and dips and fajitas, washed down with a Bud Lite for me and a glass of white wine for Andy. We showered and changed and set off for Citywalk – and did get there this time!

We went to Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville for tea, arriving about 8.15 pm. We have been here many times for drinks but never food, and now my Parrothead friend has really gotten us both into Jimmy Buffett, we felt it was about time we did.

We both ordered cocktails; a Volcano boat drink for Andy, and an Off to see the Lizard melon margarita for me. To eat, Andy had a Cheeseburger in Paradise and I had a mushroom cheeseburger which I loved. To demonstrate the magnitude of this statement, I should point out here that I am very funny about burgers and will normally only eat them when they have been made by Ronald McDonald or the King of Burgers. It is a huge compliment to Margaritaville for me to say I loved this burger!

There was a band playing while we were in there, The Fred Remus Band, who were pretty good and played a good mix of covers. Before they started though, we enjoyed the Jimmy Buffett songs, stilt walkers and especially the volcano which Andy didn’t know about. Our only disappoinment was not getting a balloon hat!

We went into the shop afterwards and got a double album, a keyring for our Parrothead friend which says “I am the woman to blame” and some boxer shorts for Andy. In the interests of this being a family board I won’t tell you what they say!

We headed back to the hotel and into the Velvet Rooms. After a couple of beers for Andy and a couple of Malibu and Cokes for me we went to bed around midnight – still appreciating these early nights before Disney!

Yes I agree - I usually wear one though I would rather look like a condom than get soaked with Florida rain! You are crazy going on Storm Force! I agree with Andy - I will go on any coaster but not that - It reminds me of tea cups and they make me sick!:confused3
